Spoilers Secret Invasion grade and discussion

Skrulls discover the Kree and the Coati and decide to hold a contest to determine which will be the recipient of Skrull generosity. Taken to Earths moon, the Kree build a city (the city the Watcher now lives in) and Coati make a garden. The Skrulls like the garden. The Kree get mad and kill the Skrulls and the Coati. They then steal the Skrulls tech and forge an Empire.

Thank you. I was trying to remember that old comic-book story from the 1970s, where they revealed the ancient origins of the Kree-Skrull War, but it's been a long time since I last read it. (Heck, I was in high school when it first came out, and I'm a senior citizen now.)

So, yeah, millennia ago, some well-meaning Skrulls were butchered by the primitive ancestors of the Kree, who stole their technology to wage war on them. And they've been at each other throats ever since -- at least according to the original comics. (Written by Steve Englehart, as I recall.)

Yep. Part of the whole Celestial Madonna Saga.

So Skrulls can create their clothing too, so if you were to cut off piece of their shirt would it turn back into skrull flesh?

Why would “Bob” care if that kid was killed? It’s not his son.
How do you know his son didn't replace the kid?

It's a small thing but I was bothered by how the submarine scene played out with the CO having his torn conversation about his orders with the weapons officer. Obviously it was to play out the drama of the moment since the weapons officer was a Skrull, but the CO wouldn't be having that kind of conversation with him. If anyone, it would be the XO before even going to that station. I know it's not a big deal but it nagged at me.

Yeah, that whole thing on the sub felt very inauthentic all-round. Not that I'm a Royal Navy submariner expert (I only ever met the one) but something about it rather smacked of lacklustre research on the writing/staging end of things.

I'm not Royal Navy or a submariner either, but I did serve in the U.S. Navy so things like that stand out a lot to me.

The whole situation was very Dr. Strangelove times 10, what do you do when you get, and confirm, an order that's obviously insane. The Captain seemed fairly spineless when he went along with it, and probably should've been more suspicious that any of the crew were down with firing upon allied heads-of-state with nuclear weapons. At the very least, some sort of reaction beyond a perturbed look when the spy tried to launch the missile anyway after the order was countermanded. This is one of those scenes where you can do a whole little story in microcosm that establishes character and scope (by showing how people outside the main plot are reacting to what the Skrull infiltrators are doing).

Disappointingly dull. Giah hasn't been much of a character yet so I didn't feel anything when she died. And I'm pretty sure Emilia Clarke will be back in some shape or form anyway.

Didn't really get what was so supposed to be so shocking about Fury's wife having a gun in a safe either. I guess we're supposed to wonder if she's working with Graavik since she contacted him, but again we've only just met her character so it's not like we have much of an idea of her loyalties anyway.

I thought the idea was because he had the guy he replaced's memories he also had the guy's love for his son. But apparently he didn't take on the guy's desire not to start a nuclear war.

I don’t mind it. There just needs to be more to this invasion than what has been stated so far.
I also don’t think Gaia is dead. She hasn’t met the Black Knight yet. :)

Yup, that was another thing that really bothered me. The CO was having this conversation out in the open (which is insane in itself)...and no one around them batted an eye. Yeah, professionalism and following orders, but this was an insane order.

Like you said, it could've been very interesting drama if handled right with more time but that wasn't the point of the show so instead it came off as a bit lazy. I would've preferred none cutaways to it at all and kept the focus on Fury, Talos, and G'iah.

There is one slim thread of hope for her:

1) Gravik has clearly already Superpowered himself up - that was Extremis that healed his hand after Talos knifed it.
2) If he could already power himself up, so could G'iah before leaving the camp. She was in the right place and had the opportunity. Gravik should have went for the head...
3) The trailer thing Turtletrekker mentioned last page.

Ah, good point there. This is definitely the kind of show that would open the next episode with a flashback to a scene that took place during the previous episode but was omitted for drama's sake.

So how many episodes is Chris Evans going to be in this cluster fuck?

(He's not, but he should be, if they want to depict supers properly).

Regarding the stuff on the submarine, what stood out to me as the "hey wait a minute" bit was the key slots for the launch keys were right next to each other. They're supposed to be spaced out far enough apart so that one person can not reach both keys.

Finally caught up with the series.

This is like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier without saying anything interesting about politics (which is immediately walked back).

I'm not feeling this show. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was dead last for me for the Disney+ shows, but this might take that spot.

Why even is this show a thing?

Disney+ shows mostly seem set up to introduce new characters and set up shit for the movies.

Does this do either?

With the exceptions of WandaVision and Hawkeye, I don't care for any of the DisneyPlus shows that much.

Are we to believe that Fury owed his success at SHIELD solely to the Skrulls? This "deconstruction" sounds even worse than the revelation that Fury had lost his eye to a grumpy intergalactic cat.
