Spoilers Secret Invasion grade and discussion

I thought fridged only applied to characters that existed solely for motivation. All three characters had several movies before being killed off.

Heck they got more screen time than Coulson did before his motivational death.

So far so good. The first episode did a good job of setting up the main players, the stakes and the various tensions.
Still a few questions though; like why there are so many Skrulls on Earth in the first place, why Danvers supposedly abandoned them all.
An answer to that may be forthcoming here, or perhaps the upcoming movie (preferably the former.) Speaking of, I'm a little unsure as the the timing of this, given we see Fury on S.A.B.E.R. AND Earth in the teaser trailer. I mean it's not impossible, but this show feels like it's meant to be Fury's swan song and I'll be surprised if he just goes back to business as usual (or survives) by the end of it.

Not thrilled about the AI generated intro. There's ways of achieving that effect without wholesale theft of innumerable artists' work, so this feels less of an artistic choice and more like a corporation testing to waters to gauge the public reaction. Very slippery slope.

Oh and guys, I know this is a hard concept for some to wrap their little brains around; but it is entirely possible to kill off a female character that a male character cares about, in a shocking manner without it being a "fridging". Nuance and context are not made-up words there to confuse you, but are in fact real things, I promise! ;)

Yeah, I'm not sure if fridging really applies here, she did have quite a bit of agency here, and had played a pretty signifcant role up to her death. I was under the impression fridging was more of when the character had no real agency, and her sole role in the story was to die as motivation for the male lead, I'm not really sure that really applies here.
I really enjoyed, I've always like Fury so I'm enjoying the focus on him. And the whole spy conspiracy tone of it is pretty cool.
Like a few of you I was a little surprised they didn't address what's become of the real Ross. I kept expecting them to show him being held captive by the Skrulls, or something.
I'm really sad to see Maria Hill get killed off, I liked her a lot. And while there's always a chance it either wasn't her or they find a way to bring her back, I'm hoping it was her and they don't bring her right back, because doing that would really destroy the impact of her death.

Working on Secret Invasion, a captivating show exploring the infiltration of aliens into human society, provided an exceptional opportunity to delve into the intriguing realm of AI, specifically for creating unique character attributes and movements. Utilizing a custom AI tool for this particular element perfectly aligned with the project’s overall theme and the desired aesthetic.

The production process was highly collaborative and iterative, with a dedicated focus on this specific application of an AI toolset. It involved a tremendous effort by talented art directors, animators (proficient in both 2D and 3D), artists, and developers, who employed conventional techniques to craft all the other aspects of the project. However, it is crucial to emphasize that while the AI component provided optimal results, AI is just one tool among the array of toolsets our artists used. No artists’ jobs were replaced by incorporating these new tools; instead, they complemented and assisted our creative teams.

Method Studios’ team of designers skillfully leveraged the power of both existing and custom AI technologies to apply the otherworldly and alien look. The entire process, guided by expert art direction, encompassed the initial storyboard phase, illustration, AI generation, 2D/3D animation and culminated in the final compositing stage.

Got some "Flag Smashers" flashbacks with the Skrull encampment.

Odd choice to set this episode in Moscow. But I suppose if the Skrulls are trying to instigate a nuclear war, it makes sense. But still.

Felt a big "meh" with this episode, but I'll watch the whole thing regardless.

Why does this Skrull faction feel the need to take over Earth? Why not find another planet similar to their old homework or find a way to get rid of the Kree from their world?

Well, I guess that makes it a little better. This time.

But it's a slippery slope.
Notice though how they didn't mention where they got the dataset for the tool. These things can't generate "art" out of thin air; they need to be trained on *thousands* of existing images in order to produce usable results. So unless they paid a massive team of artists to churn out all of those original images (which would be economically unfeasible), it means their dataset is art skimmed from the web, for which nobody was fairly compensated.

They're trying to spin the story it to dampen the backlash, but the end result is still a product based on stolen works, and is the thin end of a wedge that can only benefit larger entities to the detriment of individual artists. It's rough enough out there for artists to get paid for their work at all, nevermind having it outright stolen for someone else's profit (I speak from personal experience here) and if this kind of thing will absolutely kill what little business they're able to scrape together.

There's a reason I stopped posting my artwork online here and other places, and that was before this technology reared it's head. I have a decade's worth of projects sitting on my hard drive that I've just done for my own enjoyment that I'm probably never going to share, because it's just not worth it. Honestly I'm seriously considering going back through what's still out there and deleting it all rather than have it end up in some machine learning tool's data set.

We don't know that. They may have used royalty free images, or images they sourced themselves.
Yeah, but like Reverend noted, they didn't say where the source images are from. If they were legit, wouldn't they have said where?
