Season 4 = Poor

Yeah, I'm just talking general public. I taught in public schools 30 years, you'd be surprised how many kids hadn't seen a SW! movie, much less Trek.

When WalMart had talking/soundfx greeting cards they had TOS ones. No Picard. Just sayin. Love what you love! But as far as what is known in the general culture, TOS had the huge 70s wave to cement in the hive mind.

It's the same old argument-recapture the warm fuzziness of a certain era with very little regard for the passage of time, cultural changes, or attitudes that made those shows popular.

It was incredibly slow. Its like the writers had one idea and spread it out for 13 episodes.
Frankly the entire story could have been done in a 2 parter.

No it couldn't have.
Y'know, I liked INS when it came out, b/c it was back to being more TNG-ish with a Trekkian moral dilemma. But, yeah, sure could have been a two-parter. Y'know, one of those things where you add up the halves and get basically a movie-length thing. Which we got.
Now, let the record show, I couldn't care less if anyone likes something or not. But --

If the only alternative to BAD GUY bent on destruction is "It's just a glorified episode," give me a glorified episode any day.

There is more to it than just plot content. For example, TVH and TMP are basically “glorified episodes” and, even worse, they share plot elements in common. But, they are both epic and cinematic in feel. They are well-crafted movies that come off as “major motion pictures” in their style, pacing and overall execution. INS just feels like a drab TNG episode in almost every way. It’s crafted like an episode.

I do understand that. The little perfect village they find on the planet looked really cheesy iirc.

I can’t put my finger on what was less-than-optimal about S4, but as much as I didn’t find it objectionable…I also didn’t find it memorable in any way whatsoever either. As flawed as S1 and S2 were, they are definitely memorable and exciting. I revisit them both, and feel they had a lot of uniqueness and excitement to them that I hadn’t felt with Trek on TV for a while.

S4 was better than S3, but it didn’t approach the level of enjoyment I felt for S1 or 2.

Still fun, and I’m definitely looking forward to S5, but I hope it goes back to taking some risks and letting it hang out a bit more.

I think season 2 was the best. However, I have enjoyed all 4 seasons. I know it is not popular on this site to be positive about Discovery, but I think it is a very good show. Is it my favorite Trek show? No. But, it is better than 90 percent of shows out there.

That's an odd viewpoint. I don't like DISCOVERY at all and have been blasted for it repeatedly. I've even been wrongfully accused of racism because of it.
