Season 1 Blu-ray but no UHD :(

Just venting my disappointment over Season 1 coming to Blu-ray but no sign of a 4K/UHD disc release, which SNW is really ideal for. Agony! :wah:

Well that's disappointing, as regular blu-ray does not support HDR, and the show does stream with Dolby Vision.

I'm just glad that at least around here, they have finally stopped releasing these shows on DVD. We only get Blu-Ray's now. The faster we get rid of that old format, the better chances there are for UHD releases. Altough in today's climate, even those are rare.

SNW is coming out on DVD. As are Disco S4 and Picard S2. ...In America, at least.

Am I missing something? Has a physical media release for SNW been announced?

Season one Blu-ray and DVD are available for pre-order on Amazon as of a few days ago.

And, yeah, it blows my mind that people are buying new shows on DVD.

Sometimes there's no choice. Here in Britain seasons 2-4 of Black Lightning, 1 & 2 of Superman & Lois and both seasons of Krypton are only available on DVD. There are also homegrown shows here that don't get Blu-Ray releases.

That's weird, though, right? I can't speak for other countries, but in the US, high-definition television sets had reached 80% market penetration back in 2015 (based on some quick Google searches). It has to be somewhere near 100% today. You haven't been able to buy a standard definition television set for many years now. Blu-ray disc players have been available new for under $100 for years. And yet, even here, new shows all get DVD releases along with Blu-ray. That's kind of mind-boggling.

It's what I can afford and the current tech I have. Have to stick with what is feasible, though even then I lean more towards streaming than physical media.

Seniors I know are perfectly fine with DVD's. HDMI connected DVD players with upscaling make them look better without the extra expense of BDs.

Around here, I think it's just common psychology, that people still buy DVD's. Physically BD look just like DVD and costs more. Therefore you average Joe just buy's a DVD. But I think digital streaming is the new norm, and will be even more profilic in the future. I see Disney bowing out of physical market soon, and completely focus on D+. And if people eat it up, the rest will follow.

But yeah, from LD S2 onwsrds, DVD's are no longer released in Nordics, only BD.

DVDs are cheaper and not everyone is a snob about perfect picture quality. For some, good enough is good enough.

I watched TOS episodes over and over again on this back in the 70's ...
(first TV I had in my bedroom)

It depends on your screen size really. I have a big 4k TV and I can tell the differences between DVD, HD and 4k.

but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m not one of those people who refuse to watch anything pre-HD.

I will always choose HD/4k over DVD quality if I have the option. But I don’t go ‘eww’ if I only have SD quality as an option, I won’t complain.

Yeah, it's just this "I have an entire home theater that few people have, why don't they release things for MY screen size?! :wah:" attitude that I find odd :D
