Screen Rant: It's Possible KIRK Becomes Strange New Worlds' New Number One

I doubt it. There’s a season two pic out there with Kirk and La’an (her in a red tunic) in it he looks to have captain’s stripes.

But, if he is, then it is further evidence that they are doing their own thing in regards to continuity.

Kirk says he met Pike when he was promoted to Fleet Captain in “The Menagerie”. Then goes on to explain Spock’s history with him.

It is pretty clear author intent was that the two didn’t know each other.

I hope Jim Kirk stays a tangential story to Pike and crew, every once in awhile have him pop up in a story to check on his progress.
From what was shown in the last episode, Pike learns alot about kirk in it, so there's no real need for him to show up as a main cast member.

They had a familiarity in the episode. Kirk called him Chris.

Everyone seemed to be on a first name basis if they captained a ship. Matt, Bob and others, likely a courtesy between ship captains.

Who said he's being demoted? You could have two captains in command.

You can have two officers of captain rank on a ship. You can’t have two commanding officers.

Selective memory wipe due to some other Klingon crystal?

I mean, this is sci-fi, can easily make up something.

It is more about the hypocrisy of author intent, which gets thrown around here quite a bit when anyone mentions they treat the show as a reboot.

On the German Battleship Bismarck, on it's only deployment, it had Admiral Gunther Lutjens (German task force commander) and Captain Ernst Lindemann on board.

I imagine one was the task force commander, the other captain of the ship. It would be two distinct roles.

I don't view these as pure reboots, however I'm fine with playing with all the grey areas (ie. Burnham never mentioned by Spock EVER). Look at the new Enterprise. They did a decent job of keeping it inline with TOS while modernizing it.

I'd love to see SNW Kirk in some form in SNW season 2, only to spinoff into a new TOS series filled with missions interwoven in the TOS timeline. The advantage of TOS being episodic is you can do that and get away with it. Author intent or not.

Isn't it likely that Spock would become the ExO?
Especially if Pike is Hellbent on saving Una.
He's going to want someone at his side who also believes in Una's right to be in Star Fleet.

Kirk at best, barely even knows Una Chin Riley.
