Okay, let's be honest, I LOVE "Sean of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." I've seen this guy in lots of stuff and always liked him.
But he's NOT Scotty.

no way. OKOK he probably can do a good parody of Scotty since he is a big Sci-fi fan. But I think he is totally unsuited for the role.
My guess is that this casting shows that Scotty will be used to comedic effect unless he plays it seriously. If this is a serious take on the role of Scotty then maybe he could nail it.

Well I guess we differ on McGillion's acting ability. I liked him a lot in Atlantis and was excited by the rumors. I also wanted it for him, he seems like a nice guy and I feel like he was shafted.

Actually when I said "no way" I was referring to Pegg getting the role. I agree I'd rather have seen McGillion since he is more suited to the role but I wonder if I would have kept thinking of his Atlantis Character if he were to be in this movie.John1701D said:

Wouldn't have called that one in a million years, though I'm a big fan of the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost/Edgar Wright team (Spaced/Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz). But I trust in Simon Pegg's acting ability and, with a good make-up job and a Scottish accent, it may not be so bad.

Well I guess there had to be a clunker in the casting somewhere... I'm not sure this is a bad idea, but it doesn't seem as natural as any of the other confirmed cast so far. I really like him, but I'm having a hard time seeing him as Mr. Scott. Photoshop visualization? Anyone?

This is AWESOME news! Simon Pegg is a fantastic, fantastic actor. Totally out of left field, but I loved him in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, so bloody awesome!

Pegg is a very good actor, though I've only seen him in comedy (and they do say that comedy is harder than drama, after all
), so I think he's a pretty cool choice. He doesn't really look like Scotty to me, but I'm willing to give him a shot, for sure.
