scifi TV series ripe for a reboot

"Star Cops" ?

One of my choices would be
"Star Cops" (1987) (TV series)
Star Cops is a British science fiction television series first broadcast on BBC Two in 1987.
Set in the year 2027
generally hailed for being "a pretty good attempt at a moderately realistic "High Frontier" SF series"
The series follows Spring and the rest of his multinational team as they work to establish the Star Cops and solve whatever crimes come their way. Operating in a relatively accurately realised hard SF, near-future, space environment, many of the cases that the Star Cops investigate arise from opportunities for new crimes [they investigated thefts, sabotage, murder, and kidnappings] presented by the technologically advanced future society the series depicts and from the hostile frontier nature of the environment that the Star Cops live in.
At the moment there are 2 or 3 police-procedural scifi series in development:
“Murmurs” Sci-Fi time-travel drama by CBS in development
Alien Nation Reboot in the Works at Syfy

and the recent "Life on Mars" (2008) series and older "Timecop" (1997) (TV series) the 2 genres have worked before.

Heroes needs a reboot - mainly the same actors, all new writing staff.

Stargate needs a reboot - new actors, new writers, new everything.

ENT needs a reboot - bring back Connor Trineer and John Billingsley, plus new characters & actors and this time make it Birth of the Federation and no time travel/space Nazi crap.

Lost needs a reboot - before you all fall over in shock, no I'm not disgruntled. On the contrary, I'm highly gruntled. I just want to see more Lost! I can't believe it's ending!!! :rommie:

Oh no it hardly isn't a bad thing Tim Kring is amazing for creating the show.
He created an interesting concept, but was too fucking stubborn to let it evolve from "ordinary people discovering their have powers." The network wouldn't let him kill everyone off every season so he could reboot it himself to keep the same premise in play, so he just let the show go down the shitter.

The show needs the premise "ordinary people discover they have powers, and then they and the rest of the world must learn how to deal with such superpowered individuals."

Gentlemen.
Considering Heroes was cancelled only 2 days ago could you please use another thread to discuss that show?
Heroes cancelled!
or
How to fix Heroes? (spoilers for all eps)

A show just getting cancelled is not ripe for a reboot.

A scif show that was done 10, 20, or 30 years ago and maybe had part of a season or had a few seasons could get a reboot and do well. With age, like wine a show may be 'ripe' for a reboot.

Who would create they can't have Tim Kring back if they are

That's a good start... ;)

Hey, I just realized! Neither of Brian Fuller's new pilots were picked up for this season. Turn the whole thing over to him and start over.

Why wait? Reboot the stupid show now and do S2-onwards right this time!

Hey guys perhaps a scifi TV series older than 10 years?...

When I think of one I'd like to reboot, I'll tell ya.

Gentlemen.

Who ya calling "Gentleman"!?!? :p Anyway, once you open a thread, you gotta accept whatever people wanna talk about. Sorry.

A show just getting cancelled is not ripe for a reboot.
Why not? It's unlikely, but nothing we're talking about in this thread is at all likely, so the distinction is immaterial.

True, but HEROES has been cancelled for, what, all of about five minutes?

The body's not even cold yet . . . :)

A few years ago I would have suggested THE NIGHT STALKER, but, boy, we all saw how that reboot turned out.

Maybe LOGAN'S RUN, since the movie remake seems stalled in development hell?

Thinking about different scifi TV show reboots I came across this article:
Reboot These Sci-Fi Shows Next, Wired.com Readers Plead
it really covers a lot of scifi shows.

I would refrain from rebooting/re-imagining shows which are critically acclaimed or considered classics. Perhaps the only exception: The show in question is rather old by now. Otherwise, the possibility of disappointment is just too high. So I would definitely strike shows like Quantum Leap, Babylon 5, or Firefly. There has to be the potential to exceed the original.

If done right, Space Rangers doesn't sound so bad. That is if you can avoid the original show's clichés (like Zylyn, the Spock/Worf-like stock character). Or would a Space Rangers reboot too similar to Firefly? It would basically portray the side of the law instead of the side of the outlaws. And I guess you would need to come up with the right story arc the new show focuses on. But other than that there aren't that many changes necessary. Just get rid of the cheese.

Alien Nation, though I'm still hoping the Tim Minear-lead reboot comes to fruition.

Sliders, as long as it's not in the mode of movie rip-off of the week.
