scifi TV series ripe for a reboot

On second thought, I would also like to see a reboot of Earth 2. Unfortunately, this particular show was already ripped off by Lost in many ways.*** Both series even had Terry O'Quinn. :p So I guess there won't by anyone willing to produce a "LOST on another planet" show.

*** Spaceship crash-lands on seemingly uninhabited planet. The survivors soon find out that there are not exactly alone... and that they're not the first humans to land there. Also, the planet possesses special powers and hides some terrible secrets. And Terry O'Quinn shows up. Someone should really sue J.J. Abrams over this.

Well, this is sf/f, but I vote for Dark Shadows!

Zachary Quinto is a natural for Barnabas Collins and he's at liberty now!

I'm gonna get assaulted for this but Twin Peaks. Get David Lynch to reboot it on HBO, so we can actually see an ending.

FlashForward. I know it's only just been cancelled, but the concept was great. Shame the characters were all boring as shit.

Threshold. I really enjoyed this show while it was on. Cancelled way too early I think.

Sliders... but make it serious. Great ideas, terrible executions as time went on. Dropping the aliens would be a must for me, and also not having the main characters be the mayor, wanted criminal, etc. in the alternate universes.

Misfits of Science :shifty:

except this time make sure one of the powers isnt the ability to shrink yourself...unless you can also enlarge yourself as well...but then that might just be too crazy for a network tv show.

I could see rebooting ENT in such a way that would likely piss off a lot of people. But then again who knows?

I wouldn't mind rebooting Earth Final Conflict, leaving only first season intact and redo the rest.

I also wouldn't mind rebooting Crusade.

Sadly it's too late for Firefly. The backstory is pretty cool, but you can't duplicate that without such an awesome cast that flows together so well.

I'd celebrate big big if Outer Limits would start up again. Love the original and 90s versions. Damn I hope that will be made again.

Although I know it would upset diehards, I think a Babylon 5 reboot would be great. There are things I would ditch, the comedy needs to work better, and as a fan of nuBSG, I would want to see nuB5 grittier. To me it seems it should be that way. Keep the main alien races and expand on them even more. Major changes to the way the overall story ends.

I could really get into that as a remake.

I would refrain from rebooting/re-imagining shows which are critically acclaimed or considered classics.
this thread seems to pull up some shows that were cancelled early that could be ripe for a reboot:
Sci-fi Brilliant but Canceled or little known gems

If done right, Space Rangers doesn't sound so bad. That is if you can avoid the original show's clichés
I've never heard of it.
Space Rangers (1993 TV series)
synopsis via Wiki:
In the year 2104 the Earth colony Fort Hope on the distant planet Avalon struggles to survive. A small force of police/marines called the "Space Rangers Corps" are the first, last and only line of defense for the colonists against crime and the perils of interstellar exploration.

It does sound similar to the British "Star Cops" (1987) (TV series).

Alien Nation, though I'm still hoping the Tim Minear-lead reboot comes to fruition.
It's been about a year since the project was first announced, and we've heard nothing since. I've got a bad feeling.

Actually, I had a bad feeling about the whole reboot, anyway, from Minear's comments about wanting to be more like the original film. The original film was puke. If you're just going to do Miami Vice with Coneheads, what's even the point? The Ken Johnson series was Alien Nation done right, and if the plan is to update AN the way they updated V, then I'll pass.

Star Trek should be rebooted for television. Do a new Kirk/Spock animated series. Maybe even a CGI series.

It seems to me that Minear is just ignorant of the television series. He also mentioned that he wanted to make a remake that was more like The Wire than the original movie, so I think he has the right idea.

I agree that the original movie isn't nearly as good as the television series, though it wasn't completely without worth (just, mostly).

But, you're right, it has been an entire year and a lack of word isn't indicative of progress.

Gerry Anderson's "UFO" (currently being optioned)
"Plymouth" (a really neat pilot that wasn't optioned)
The "Starlost" (this time with MONEY!!)
"My Life and Times" critically acclaimed but seldom seen ABC show..
"The Invaders"

I've never seen "Star Cops", but it seems like a near-future kind of show. "Space Rangers" was more a like a Space Western with aliens, faster-than-light travel and stuff.

No love for Space: 1999? I imagine that they'd have to change the title (Space: 2099?) and the moonbase might need to be changed to a space station, rather than the whole of the moon. But the premise is workable and the Eagles and other elements of the show still look impressive.

No, no love for Space: 1999. It would have to be with a space station, as you suggest, or smallish asteroid. But then would come tricky questions about how it speeds up and slows down, and how the (sub-light) Eagles could keep up with it.

Here's a fanfic reboot of Enterprise-done far better than the actual show:

What about Ark II ? The potential is great, the eco topic timely and if they lose the monkey it could even be taken seriously...

I've long felt that Babylon 5 - as good as the existing series is - is a project that could definitely be successfully rebooted. Originally, the idea that I had for rebooting the series was to mix characters from both "The Gathering" (Sakai, Takashima, Leta) and the series proper (Franklin, Talia), but I recently got to thinking about what the possibilities might be for fresh storytelling if Sheridan were the commander of the station from the beginning, and am thinking about putting together a 'pitch' and 'season outline' for a rebooted B5 Season 1 that uses that idea.

Other series that I think could use a 'reboot' are Smallville (it needed to have had a defined structure so that there was a sense of sustained progression in terms of Clark's development towards becoming Superman), Heroes (there needed to have been better execution of the concept, and a more balanced 'lineup' of 'heroes'), The X-Files (make it more like a procedural), and Stargate SG-1 (there needed to have been more attention paid to keeping the series in continuity - as much as possible - with the movie, as well as more of a sense of cohesion narratively).
