Sci-fi movies involving spaceships or time travel?

"Dune" is a very famous science fiction novel which has spawned many sequel novels, movies, and miniseries.

Forgive my bluntness, but where the hell are you from? You seem to be unaware of a great number of very popular and well-known science fiction films and TV shows.

i'm a sci-guy bro, trek, star wars, stargate, it's all awesome to me. i'm a huge fan of sci-fi

Greg Cox;5012007 And you should also check out [I said:
Time After Time,[/I] which is along the same lines . . . .

Might not be the best time-travel movie ever, but it is my favorite. Good script, great perfomances by pretty-much the whole cast, and it still looks good thirty years later. I especially like Malcolm McDowell's "against type" performance as H.G. Wells.

I spoke briefly with McDowell at a Star Trek convention a few years ago. He seemed pleasantly surprised when I mentioned that role and clearly had fond memories of the film.

That's very cool.

If you're unaware of Dune, I'm gonna have to question your credentials. ;)

If you're going there, go with Queen of Outer Space instead, and you get all the honeys in their tight skimpy dresses to go with your Classic SciFi Cheez.

This Island Earth never held my attention all the way through.

Yes but it had one of the earliest "starships" with a rather large bridge and a commander giving orders, just like the OP requested. I agree that the novella of the story was far more interesting than the movie.

RAMA
Queen of Outer Space i just looked at this and it's from 1958? i was looking for something modern

No, This Island Earth, which at least pretends to be more serious than "Queen of Outer Space". Its from 1955 I believe. If anything it'll make a good comparison with modern films, worth watching once even if you don't like "old" movies. There's an attempt made to show a plausibly alien starship bridge in it...the intefaces are not typical of the period, ie: big boxy computers with nobs and light on them.

"Our chair technology is much more advanced than yours."*

*MST3K reference.

does anyone know of a movie where a spaceman somehow arrives to the middle ages? i remember the spaceman landing into what looked like a viking culture. it's a recent movie.

More space films that might fit your bill (we see the bridge (or control-room) and there's some order following elements (though not too much in Moon Zero Two)):
(if anyone mentioned these before my apologies).

Destination Moon (1950-something)
Spaceways (1950-something)
The First men In The Moon (50's or 60's - not sure)
Barbarella (1968)
Moon Zero Two (1970-something?)

Frankenstein Unbound is awesome.

John Hurt from 2050 something and his super robot car meets Mary Shelly, Lord byron, and Percy Shelley. They have an orgy, and then he fights Victor Frankenstien to silence his advance in medtech that would surely see the prisons turned into organ banks and the Monarchs of Europe suddenly immortal and merciless which would unfold a new and odd 21st century which he is unfamiliar with except for the time visions of the distopia yet to come which plauge him between blinks because "time" is pissed with him.

Worst Timetravel movie ever is Time Changer.

Captain Stubbing from the love Boat sends an adventurous Church scholar forward in time a century to "modern time" where the time traveler is disgusted and horrified by the depravity of what must be the end of days... In the end, after the hero is relieved to return to the past, Captain Stubing is trying to use his time machine again but he can't seem to get it to deliver anything else into the future past 2010 because, it is alluded by the tone that 2010 is post rapture.

.

And (loosely) based on a novel by Brian Aldiss, btw.

No supercar in the novel, as I recall, although the protagonist does have sex with Mary Shelly . . . .
