Sarah Jane-enemy of the Bane

Starkers

Am I the only person who watched pt1 last week? Or is the review thread hidden under a perception filter or something? :)

I watched it last night actually. Pretty interesting when they were playing the angle of Wormwood being the good guy... until Kaagh showed up that is. Finale should be good - I may even watch it on tv for a change as it's the last one.

I'm not an old series fan really so I won't pass any judgment on the Brig's role.

It was good to see the Brig again, but to me part two just seemed kinda flat. I dunno, maybe I'm just too old for the show.

Maybe. I thought part 2 was pretty poor as well. Nothing particularly exciting or unpredictable happened. And the whole set-up heavily reminded me of elements of Torchwood's End of Days.

Time to officially start counting down to The Next Doctor now SJA is over!

I wasn't impressed- it was a bit "was that *it*?"

Though this may be because I missed all but the last five minutes of the first half

Horath.

How much would it have killed them to say Horrus or Ossirus?

(Can you imagine a Bane wailing into a Mummy Robot like it were Super Stars of Wrestling??)

It's almost the same word and Sarah Jane is intimate with those buggers and considering how knowledgeable she was on the subject back in '76, it's a fair bet that it all could have tied into the aunt who raised her which would have tied the corners about family the season seemed to be focussing on.

Great shades of Star Wars!

"Luke, I am your mother, we shall rule the galaxy as mother and son."

"No, that's impossible, that's impossible!"

Why did Sir Alistair just bow out half way through? Retired or not, if he's not so dotty as to be allowed to go to Peru (was that a comment on Indiana jones?) then he should know when he's letting the side down. Hell, they stole his car and he let those bastards get away with it! Taking a man's car is personal! He should have been hell bent to fuck them up. Well, at least they didn't kill him off in a torch passing scene thank goodness.

When they started talking about a 3000 year old computer, I did think that all that had been to track down Mr Smith who is not so bad any more, not that his personality couldn't have been fiddled with even a regular screw driver. of course, i then thought that the mysterious Last of the summer wine local where the final show down would be set was going to be the same Village where Sarah Jane's Parents triumphed over the Trixter and we could see why the hell that place was so damn special?

So much for my impressions that Clive and Rani would be "holding hands" by the end of the season, although, she did give Luke a longing look half way though the second episode that had me wonder if something was planned between the two of them or their was a crush off camera?

I so wanted Clive to pick up Kargh's blaster and disappoint Sarah Jane, and if the brig hadn't plodded off for a nap, impressed the hell out of him... Leaving a smoking hole the size of garbage can in Mrs Wormwood... As the two "Adluts" argued over how to propperly defend the Earth.

Which would have lead to guilt and remorse over talking a life, further fleshing out the character... but this IS made for children, so I shouldn't try to be too Monday night quarterbackish… Although, that Major assface being a bane was just stupid. One of the most enjoyable elements I ever read in a Robin comic was when Child Services accused Bruce Wayne of beating the kid, which should really be a concern Un.I.T would pass down the line to the appropriate peoples before the third dead 12 year old living on Bannerman Road makes the front page of the papers.

I thought it was a pretty good ending to series 2. Yes, part 1 was superior to part 2, but it was still one of the better episodes from this batch.

The Wormwood/Luke relationship seemed to almost have a quasi sexual element to it. The way Wormwood kept caressing Luke's face. Luke's (what I imagine was supposed to come across as 'conflicted') gaze at Wormwood appeared more 'longing'. Especially when he would lick his lips while she was talking. :wtf:

But oedipal issues aside, it was a good episode. :techman:

I have to wonder if there wasn't more to the story that had to be scrapped due to failing health on Nicks part. He is what, 78 now? I just hope he gets to met the Doctor again before we *knock on wood* lose him.

I don't know. To me this bit would've been a lot more effective if we thought for a moment that Luke might go over to her side.

I have it on the dvd-hd but I haven't got around to watching it yet. I want to sit down and watch both parts. Must admit, I was surprised there wasn't a rating thread yet for these eps.

Well I liked pt 2, but I can see what people are saying re the flatness, I'd also agree with the sentiment that Wormwood and Luk's scenes weren't exactly maternal!

Man I'd love to see Samantha Bond play Servalan!

I hate to say it, but I think Courtney probably isn't up to an appearance in Who unless he was sat behind a desk for most of it. Wouldn't it be better to remember the Brig who stalked back off with his gun to finish off the thang in Battlefield than as a doddery old man? He did seem to wander off for no reason near the end, so maybe it is his health.

That said once he shot the Major I'd have killed for a "Well what do you know, finally met one of these chaps who wasn't immune to bullets" line.

But the Brigs key weapon was always that when he told 60 guys to shoot something, they shot it, or when he told 80 engineers to place shaped charges at the base of something, they did it.

Could you imagine if he'd stopped at the retirement home to pick up some of the boys? O(r did a pis stake of that scene from men in black two where Tommy Jones picks up some weapons he kept hidden behind that false wall in the apartment he no longer lived in?

I do wish Alistair had been able to talk those soldier boys into standing down and teaming up with them rather than Sarah using her lip stick as a weapon... because now we can say that she has the ability to incapacitate anyone carrying a mobile phone.

Sarah had pulled the same trick before, I thought. Didn't she use it on the guy's headset in Warriors of Kudlak?

Hm, that last story was pretty silly really. The Brig's appearance just seemed wasted, and the Unit guy turning out to be a Bane was so obvious from the get go it almost wasn't worth watching.

The best part of season 2 was Sarah's mistaking a Police Box for the TARDIS, which makes me think the only reason I watch this show is for a possible Doctor Appearance which we'll probably never get.

The one thing I will say is that I liked Mr Smith far more this season than last. And all the kids are great... though at times the plot they had to deal with were a bit naff. And I don't like Rani's parents very much, they're just annoying. Bring back Alan! :D

Will be interesting to see what we get in season 3, if it comes (all signs point to yes at this stage from what I've read).

Oh, and save K9 from his cubby (black) hole!

^ Awww, I like Rani's parents! Especially her dad (in a completely straight, manly sort of way) :)

But yeah, I do agree. With a few exceptions, most of the stories have been nothing to write home about. But I've really gotten to like the kids. Its gotten to the point where I find them more interesting than Sarah.

I was watching the first part when i had to call the nurse back and i wound up back in hospital, so i've no idea what happened till i get home again.
