Sarah Jane Adventures: Series 4

As for the past episode, I think Sarah Janes storyline was a bit weak, and too similar to the previous "haunted house" episode.
On the contrary, I found it refreshingly different from a typical haunted house story because the "ghosts" are of the future and not the past.

that was a nice little twist, and maybe if we had not had "The Eternity Trap" last series, that part of the episode would have been better.

While it probably wasn't a classic, I thought it was enjoyable enough, and certainly better than some of the clunkers from previous seasons.

Has the show gotten a new production team? It seems like the style of the shows been a bit more grown up this year.
And Sarah hasn't done her 'The universe is a wonderful place.' speach even once this year (Thank God). I guess she finally believes it herself.

Agreed.

Maybe just natural with Luke moving out and the kids growing up?

Or maybe the show got better every time they dropped some driftwood.

Kelsy.

Maria.

Luke.

Speaking of Maria, her TV Mom was truly Horrific on Phoneshop where she was threatening her husband with porn Olympics level fetish sex until he paid for renovations around the house.

I think I made the point elsewhere that the show was suffering from the same problem as early Davison DW. Three companions (and a robot dog) is too many.

Why exactly did the Dog go with Luke?

Davison's latest audio adventures have Tegan, Nyssa and Turlough. They got the band back together. (All original cast.) It's nothing short of a renaissance.

Mark in the behind the scenes is hilarious "Well it used to be that maturity wise peter was a lot older than me. Now however, we're both old men."

"Peter Davison is like Michael Cain. He's very good in every thing he does, brilliant really, but he's always still obviously playing himself... This week however Peter had to play both the Doctor and the villian simultaneously, so Peter was forced to "act" for once, and I was very surprised to find that he was quite good at it."

Cheeky ginger bugger. ;)

Well, that was indeed a shocker!

No, not Ruby being evil and the cause of Sarah's mix of Parkinsons and Alzheimers, I mean the fact that it *wasn't* the Trickster, in an episode with "Sarah Jane Smith" in the story title - a fucking shocking (but most welcome) departure from the series formula!

A nice little episode, with a fun guest star, but might have worked better if they'd run Sarah's symptoms as a story arc throughout the season, building to this.

Still another 8/10 or so, making this both the best and most consistent season to date.

Yeah the lack of the Trickster is a nice change (much as I like the Trickster) and I agree, would have been much better to forshadow Sarah Jane's symptoms throughout the series, as it is her decline felt very rushed, making it even more obvious that Ruby was to blame.

Oh yeah, anyone else get the nice little homage to Blakes 7 with Mr White reflecting a slightly more powerful version of the DreadLords back at themsevles ;)

Much like past finales this seemed a little flat compared to other episodes, but still good and maybe part 2 will blow me out of the water!

Yeah, I was going to mention that couldn't remember the name of the thing that did it, even though I remembered it was in Harvest Of Kairos when they're taking off in an old Apollo lander.

This morning I remembered it's called Sopron.

A slightly weaker episode to resolve the story, with a somewhat simple doggie-ex-machina, but overall a decent end to what has easily been the best - and most consistent, quality-wise - season of SJA.

I've no doubt we'll be seeing Julie Graham again- somehow I don't think the final shot of Qetesh's pod flying sunwards is literally meant to tell us Sarah threw it into the sun. Even though that'd be the sensible thing to do. Come to think of it, isn't Qetesh a Stargate reference? I'm sure that's the Goa'uld that possessed Vala when she first appeared...

so, 8/10 for the overall story again.

Only seen part one and waiting for the final episode to turn up.

Not terribly impressed I have to say. Just your generic by-the-numbers alien wants to destroy the earth storyline. And a space vampire no less. *yawn*

We'll see what the season finale brings.

Bwah? This week IS the season finale.

Yep, 10 episodes, 1 episode twice a week means it's a pretty short series.

Pretty much, yep. Seems even shorter when they air them two episodes per week.

1/2 - The Nightmare Man
3/4 - The Vault of Secrets
5/6 - Death of the Doctor, aka The Return of Useless
7/8 - The Empty Planet
9/10 - Lost in Time
11/12 - Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith
