Same Sex Marriage

Given what had already transpired, I really didn't think I'd ever have a chance to say this, but:

My, this thread has certainly taken a left turn into crazy town.

For all the people out there that have said that homosexuality is wrong/a disease/whatever other homophobic BS, is that only related to gay men?

Would you have the same revulsion if Trek introduced two hot lesbian characters, who wore tight and/or skimpy outfits, and all they did was have pillow fights or mud wrestle on the holodeck?

Its a phenomena that has always baffled me, how some straight men get off on lesbians, even though their orientation means that a guy wouldn't have a chance with them.

I'll give you an example:

I like Taylor Swift, I think she is really pretty, and she is Heterosexual, but I wouldn't stand a chance with her. Certain celebs are. A lesbian can be pretty, and attractive to a male of a normal inclination, but I don't waste my time pursuing celebrities of either strip as my chances with them are as close to zero that its probably not worth bothering about.
Sooo your views on the issue of homosexuality in our society are rooted entirely in who you personally find (or don't find) attractive, and who you personally would have a chance (or no chance) with.

Yeah, I think you're right eddie: "enlightening" really is the most appropriate word here.

Would you want to see a Gorn mating ritual? How much time should Star Trek devote to Gorn romance, just wondering?

Why not, I'd be interested in HOW'd they do it.

God knows we saw enough pon farr story lines.

LOL's on comparing gorns to gays though.
What's wrong with Gorns, they are reptiles, so? Their main fault is they are very inhuman, they probably lay eggs. I think Aliens should be more like the Gorn and less like Vulcans, and mating a human with a gorn is fairly laughable if you ask me.

Gorns are fictional creatures. Gays and lesbians are real people and they're not going away just because you find them disgusting.

Just go by the numbers, are their enough gays in the audience to justify two men kissing?

Hot lizard on lizard action? Hell yeah!!!!

Please. Trek has never shown actual intimacy only hinted at that was going on behind closed doors. I'm not asking for graphic depiction of anal sex in an episode, but just have it known that there are characters in the universe who like it like that.

Just go by the numbers, are their enough gays in the audience to justify two men kissing?
I would like to think that TV audiences and Trek fans ar mature enough to appreciate a same-sex reationship on a popular series, if done in a respectful way. It's not something that will ever go away.

Stigma related to orientation will only lessen over time, if people are exposed to it more and more in the main stream. As will happen for the transgender as well. It is only ignorance and fear that lead people to deem others not like the as inferior, deviant or just plain wrong. Society isn't static, it adapts and evolves with every passing day.

Hi kids! Let's play noun substitution! The game that reveals what people are realllllly saying.

Just go by the numbers, are their enough Vulcans in the audience to justify pon farr?

Just go by the numbers, are their enough androids in the audience to justify two androids as brothers?

You guys make this too easy. It's shooting fish in a barrel. With a bazooka.

They had 2 chicks kissing, so why not?
There enough to have Klingons having foreplay. :p

Plus Doctor Who and Torchwood, as I mentioned, has Captain Jack, and we've seen him kisisng guys and girls...and we've seen girls with other girls on the show, too.

So if some man said they felt as if they were really a woman, oh ... I have no way of possibly relating to that.
Okay, let's break this down, and I'll try to explain.

So if some man said they felt as if they were really a woman ... Stop, the person you have just described isn't a "man," despite their birth genitalia. By your description, this is a person with the gender identity of a female, their brain contains a female consciousness.

... but they don't want a relationship with a man ... Stop, okay the fore mentioned female doesn't sexually desire a male. The person you're describing is therefor sexually a lesbian, or possibly celibate.

It's as alien to me as saying that you feel like you're a square, but a square that has no corners. to which I raise my hand and say "wouldn't that make you a circle?" and you say "nope, just a cornerless square in a circle's body.
Try this, there is a man from sub-Sahara Africa who is black, but he has a medical condition, he is a albino. You RB Kandy raise your hand and say "wouldn't that make you white?" and he says "nope, just a black man in a white body."

if you tell me you are a woman in a man's body, I am just going to presume you're gay.
That would be transgenderism, which is gay. But knowing only that someone is transgender tells you nothing about their sexuality. Hetero, homo, bi, nothing, everything.

I consider transgender to be an aspect of homosexuality
No, it is a aspect of gay. The word gay doesn't just refer to homosexual.

I don't believe in the existence of a transgender person, transsexual yes, but not transgender.
The two terms are not the same. Transgender includes transsexuals, transvestites, crossdressers, drag queens, androgynes and genderqueers (gender-benders). Transsexual is specific to individuals with gender dysphoria who seek surgical alteration of their body to more closely conform to their gender identity, this may include sex reassignment surgery.

All transsexuals are transgender, but not all transgenders are transsexual.

For a man to feel like a woman, yet not want sex with men, basically means he's just a soft effeminate male, or a sissy as they used to be called
Sissy as a slang term is still used, and it's meaning can be hard to peg down. The term can refer to a crossdresser, which is a kind of transgender. But the term sissy can also (and separately) refer to a man who is submissive in bed, these people are more commonly call "a bottom."

And some males are in fact "effeminate," which isn't quite the same as being a sissy, having more to do with personal mannerisms. Just being who you are.

Like wise a woman who feels like a boy, yet does not want a relationship with a girl, isn't transgender either; she's a tom boy.
She is a transgender.

The key phrase is "who feels like a boy." As opposed to "knows she a woman" but likes doing traditional boy things.

Again, you're a sissy or a tomboy, but your not transgender,
A women who dresses in male clothing in order to deliberately present herself as a boy or man, would be a crossdresser, and would therefor be transgender.

and if you feel like [you are] a woman in a man's body and you want sex with men, than you're not transgender either, you're a homosexual, who happens to be very effeminate.
That is a very clear example of a transgender, and a individual who is heterosexual. And they wouldn't be effeminate, but feminine.

The key phrase is "you feel like [snip] a woman."

complicated
Here you are correct.

... are their enough gays in the audience to justify two men kissing?
Are there enough Star Trek homophobies out there to justify two men kissing, and then engaging in a steamy incredible sex scene?

Hee hee hee.

:)

I think the relationship to Future of Trek is pretty distant at this point...maybe try this one in TNZ?
