I have been reading this very interesting thread in its entirety, but I cannot help getting stuck on this here gem. Holy fuck, Batman. What a load of crap. :barf:

So you don't have a problem with Earth being united under US dominance? How considerate of you. Most everyone else has a problem with being dominated by an alien culture. I know, sounds almost too strange to believe, but it's true!

People who believe that their country is the epitome of democracy and that they should be bravely leading on the rest of us poor benighted savages are....oh well, it should suffice to say that it doesn't surprise me one bit that some people actually believe that homosexuality is something to be left out of Star Trek.

I sure hope the guy was joking when he wrote this, because....damn. Words fail me.

But they'd be united CommanderRaytas. It would be just like the Federation. Root beer for everyone!

You must not be familiar with Knight Templar.

    He's very serious.

Well according to DS9 all humans drink root beer. I have no clue what it is, but is sounds vile.

Earth should become united under the New British Empire, we controlled most of the planet a couple centuries ago, introduced the industrial revolution, whilst Scotland is currently working towards introducing same-sex marriage (just to drag this thread back onto topic) :)

Meh, a US Empire will be full of rednecks and McDonald's, and the New British Empire would just have boring stiff-lipped aristocrats ruling over cockney-speaking soot-stained workers.

I say unite Terra under the Novum Imperium Romanum. We'll have bread, circuses, and debauched orgies for everybody.

How about this, the US takes over the world and then we can all participate in the fast food threads. You know how left out some of us feel.

I am intrigued by this Novum Imperium, and would like to sign up for your news letter.

Italy? Yes. I could submit myself to that kind of regime.

Canada? Just kill us all now.

I couldn't take hearing the Imperial anthem sung by Nickelback or Celine Dion.

I hope you mean for straight people and not for the "Homos" and "lesbos" mentioned in this thread - why if they were involved they could turn everyone gay and depopulate the planet!

For all the people out there that have said that homosexuality is wrong/a disease/whatever other homophobic BS, is that only related to gay men?

Would you have the same revulsion if Trek introduced two hot lesbian characters, who wore tight and/or skimpy outfits, and all they did was have pillow fights or mud wrestle on the holodeck?

Its a phenomena that has always baffled me, how some straight men get off on lesbians, even though their orientation means that a guy wouldn't have a chance with them.

Chance has nothing to do with it, its two women, three would be better still. It's not like the fantasy has anything to do with reality. Of course, those lesbians would be hot porn ones, not real ones.

What is more to wonder is why is the image less threatening and less objectionable to straight men than two guys making out. One might posit that it's because women's sexuality is not important enough to be a threat. Patriarchy and privilege, wonderful things for the patriarchs.

Two men making out, that upsets the norms of conformity. Men as sex objects just isn't OK for the overly social conservative horny straight male self image, unlike women. They make fine objects, almost as good as a remote, or comfy lounge chair.

Of course not. Can't have "homos" leading the Imperium, after all. We need real straight men. Like Caesar. Or something.

    I'll give you an example:

I like Taylor Swift, I think she is really pretty, and she is Heterosexual, but I wouldn't stand a chance with her. Certain celebs are. A lesbian can be pretty, and attractive to a male of a normal inclination, but I don't waste my time pursuing celebrities of either strip as my chances with them are as close to zero that its probably not worth bothering about.

Mars, what about men that look like women? such as that model Andrej Pejic who's a very femmy looking man (and not transsexual as many uninformed places like to say)

should he be made plastic surgery to make him look acceptably manly?
and also is he pretty enough to make your ' hypothetical celebrity to do' list?

Unrelated to that post, but I'm trying again...

I have one question for Mars: Do you have any (that you know of) gay friends? Not acquaintances: friends.

    I'm genuinely curious.

Given what had already transpired, I really didn't think I'd ever have a chance to say this, but:

My, this thread has certainly taken a left turn into crazy town.

Sooo your views on the issue of homosexuality in our society are rooted entirely in who you personally find (or don't find) attractive, and who you personally would have a chance (or no chance) with.

Yeah, I think you're right eddie: "enlightening" really is the most appropriate word here.
