Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Says it all when the announcement gets randomly dumped out on a minor rugby match.

But hey only 98 days until this farce is over.

“But we’re doing well in our key demographic of… er… people who like watching big Welsh fellas runs around in shorts! It’s stunning and brave! It’s what Doctor Whi has always been!”

Varada Sethu is about to have an amazing April/May between Doctor Who and  Andor. :D

That sounds like a lot of fun, especially with Alan Cumming voicing that character, but I do agree it'll be (unnecessarily) divisive. Good thing I'm good at ignoring such complaints.

So no simultaneous release on iPlayer in the UK. It really smacks of desperation.

"Oh, Mr. Disney you're the one we really care about, not those pathetic UK viewers. Please don't dump us, please."

It doesn't actually say that, does it. It just says it gets released on iPlayer and aired on TV on the same day, not at the same time.

This is exactly the same as happened last season except, elsewhere it says we're getting it on iPlayer at 8AM, the same time as the US Disney Plus release.

I keep forgetting she's in Andor. Looks like a good spring this year.

I may be missing something about what'll be divisive, but characters coming out of movies into reality in the Doctor Who universe goes back to at least the second season of Torchwood ("From Out of the Rain" by Peter Hammond, creator of Sapphire and Steel). And yes, of course Torchwood is part of Doctor Who continuity.

This isn't the crossovers topic, but I have to wonder what someone could do with a Doctor Who/Sapphire and Steel crossover...

That's great news, he's a wonderful actor.

Yeah, this is definitely one of the new episodes I'm not curious about.

Disney couldn't bother having any sort of presence at Gallifrey One, the biggest Doctor Who convention on the planet, even though they're held in LA. (They were there last year though.)
Disney was not at Gallifrey One last year, but I was! They did give convention attendees a special poster. This year several of the current series Executive Producers were there.

So the Disney deal included the 14th Doctor specials? For some reason I had it in my head that it didn't.

If Disney is locked in for funding 26 episodes then that means even after series 15 they're committed to another 5 episodes? (unless that's taken up with the War Between the Land and the Sea?)

I'm presuming Kris Marshall, who as far as I'm aware was never EVER hired to be Doctor Who and probably was never even in the running.
According to the Executive Producers at Gallifrey One, They were only in talks with Disney while filming those specials. No Disney money was used in making those specials. No idea if they count towards the 26 though. Presumably yes because they did air on Disney.

Also confirmed at the convention is the War Between the Land and Sea is 5 episodes in length. So, I guess that fits. Apparently, RTD wrote the first episode of this spinoff series before writing new DW episodes in his pitch for the Whoniverse.

I don't know if this has been reported (probably) but Susan Twist will be back in S2 in some capacity.

"Honey, I'm Velma."

Looks fantastic! I'm especially looking forward to the giant living skeleton. I'm always a sucker for monsters like that...I just hope it doesn't devolve into a CGI fest in the third act.

This is my shocked face that Varada Sethu's Belinda Chandra has a connection with Mundy Flynn from "Boom." Even though I originally wished Sethu's companion was the same character as Mundy, I also wish they left the two unconnected and uncommented on, but I suppose that was never going to happen. I can only hope now that there will be a good reason for the connection.
