Favorite Second Episode?

Though, in the first thread, "Partners in Crime" is neck-and-neck with "Smith and Jones" and Martha is hardly the most popular companion.
True, but notice how most people who picked "Smith and Jones" gave a list of reasons of why they thought it was the superior episode, while most of those who picked "Partners in Crime" either said "OMG Donna is teh ROXXORZ!!!1" or said nothing at all.

To be fair, Donna is awesome. But I am surprised to see how well "The Fires of Pompeii" is doing here.

I don't know how much value there is in comparing something like third episodes, so expect to see these matchups get a little more creative from here on out.

I might be in the minority, but I didn't like any of these episodes. If I were to pick the one with the least cringe inducing stupid moment, I'll go with End of the World. It had nice heart to it (even if it did rip off a scene from Galaxy Quest that was trying to make fun of shows like this).

How about matching up the early season two parters next?

Oh and I may be in a minority but I rather liked The Shakespeare Code, then followed by Tooth and Claw, Fires of Pompeii and in last place, The End of The World. I can't really give reasons though, been a while since I've actually watched any of them as they always seem to fall on a Wednesday night when shown on BBC Three!

I liked "The Shakespeare Code" myself. I thought it was a lot of fun, Freema looked great, Christina Cole is always a welcome sight, and the Harry Potter references were cool.

^ Yeah, it's a really solid batch (with the exception of "The Shakespeare Code"... ugh).

I adore "The Shakespeare Code." I mean, how can you not love an episode that starts with the villain staring directly into the camera and cackling evilly?

The Fires of Pompeii followed by...

The End of the World
Tooth and Claw

that top 3 so close with the bottom choice easy...

The Shakespeare Code (one of weakest Doc Who episodes)

I chose "The End of the World" as the definitive second episode, with "Fires of Pompeii" coming a close second. "Tooth & Claw" and "The Shakespeare Code" are both just OK.

The randomly pointless blades of death.
Those were damn near unforgiveably stupid.

I can't really remember any of them other than TEOTW. I'm no big fan of that, but the CGI was impressive when I first saw it back in 2005.

Yeah, I almost gave up on the show right there. The only reasons I didn't were because I had already seen Dalek and liked it and because the rest of the episode was good enough to forgive it.
