I don't believe in monarchies, and I'm critical against the hype it gets. Then I wouldn't watch Paris Hilton's wedding, so why should I watch another wedding of people born into a rich family?

Of course it wont. Charles is next in line, unless he dies before Liz, he will be King and probably will be for several decades. It does not matter if he is widely unpopular, it doesn't matter if various commonwealth countries declare themselves republics because they can't stand to see his portrait hanging in public buildings, this is his birthright and he will see it through. The idea that Charles should abdicate in favour of William was floated back when he was going to marry Camilla, because of how deeply unpopular she was at the time, and it was rubbished. That is not how the monarch is decided. The monarch is not elected, popularity has no part to play in it.

Monarchs abdicate a lot. That's how Queen Elizabeth's father became king. Because his brother abdicated.

Charles could still abdicate the throne.

Of course some Americans would arguing that the Judiciary Branch holds the real power. They have the power to rule whether or not a law passed by Congress is "Constitutional" and can say the same thing about various aspects of the President's agenda.

And look at how the judges get their positions as members of the Supreme Court. The Executive Branch (el Presidente) nominates a judge and the Legislative Branch (specifically the Senate) says yea or nee to the nominees. The judges hold their position until death (or until they want to resign). So the judges are people of extreme power in the United States and they are not directly appointed by the citizens of the United States.

The American government is supposed to be one of checks and balances. But, the bottom line is that their are abuses within the American government just like those of over countries...

Dangit, you guys got me off topic!! This thread should be about the wedding!! Lol.

I think I'll be watching it at my sister's. I haven't decided if I'm sleeping on her couch for the rest of Spring Break. If I stay here I get to tease her that it's on her birthday.

They don't abdicate because they are old. They don't actually abdicate a lot, it's an anomaly. It's expected that the Queen will be be Queen until she dies.

Yeah, I've been pretty bitchy since my ex's mistress (now wife, soon to be ex-wife) sent me the birth announcement for their twins before I was legally divorced. :cool: Such a sweet young girl. :guffaw: I hope her new breasts explode the next time she gets on a plane.:angryrazz:

No, not big on the royal wedding.
