Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watch?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

What the hell?!?

Why would I have to wake up early?

It starts at 6pm our time here in Perth - perfect evening prime time viewing.

Personally I will be watching Channel 9 as Dame Edna will be one of the hosts and taping Channel 2 because the Chaser guys will be doing a comedy commentary. I normally cannot stand them but that should be funny!

^ Is the Republican Movement trying to get rid of all of Australia's ties to the monarchy? Please forgive my American ignorance!

Around 1999 there was a big push by the Republican movement to cut ties with England.

The government of the day(right wing conservative party)gave concessions to appeasing the public by offering a referendum on the subject. They loaded the question however with two options,

Do you want Australia to remain with the Commonwealth?

Do you want a republic with the party able to choose the president?

The majority voted NO to the latter because the people wanted to be able to vote for the president.

Basically the government wanted the status to remain quo so the referendum was loaded with a question that they KNEW people would not go for.

Personally, I would prefer to stay with the Commonwealth but with the MASSIVE influx of immigrants and the unfortunate lessening of our anglo background(there is a sentiment now in Australia, as there is in most western countries that ALL cultures should be celebrated EXCEPT anything to do with England), I know it WILL happen at some point in our future.

Although, the way things are going, by then we will be a muslim nation anyway and our ties will be to al queda or some sheik in Buttfuckistan.

Sad to see the actual death throes of our country.

Does who's King/Queen really matter? I think we all know in this day and age it isn't that person's responsibility to run the government or wield power but to distract attention away from the "real power." ;)

I couldn't care less about some pretty English people getting married (well, she's pretty. Him not so much.)

I am so sick about hearing about this stupid Royal Wedding, I could see it making some news or hype in England considering they're "royalty" and whatever but didn't Americans battle England to get away from this bullshit?

Why do we care about some English people born/invited into "royalty" half a world away are doing?

Why do people care what Snooki is doing? For some oddly bizarre reason, they do.

I think the fanaticism with this wedding is orders of magnitude greater than people's interests in what America's first Troll Doll/Human/Martian hybrid does.

Actually I think Wills is very good looking!

Dooki or whatever her name is(BARELY on my radar)....NOT so much!

Eh, he's okay looking, I guess. But he still has an "odd English" look to him with an almost sneering smile. Kate/Catherine/Princess whatever you want to call her? Oh. My. God.

Snooki? Ugh. Thinking about her too much will likely turn me gay.

I can get up early to watch a wedding for two total strangers? Three things that suck individually, now available in one convenient location? Sign me up.

I read that in Tom Servo's sarcastic voice.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I guess it's because the only TV channels I watch are Treehouse and Teletoon but the wedding is passing me by - the only reason I know when it is is because England is getting three long weekends in a row, so it has to be between Easter and the May bank holiday.

^ I didn't realize people were talking about that when Charles married Camilla. Not very surprising.
Many people didn't like the idea that Camilla would become Queen and felt that Charles should just remove himself from the line of succession, but they got around it by promising that Camilla would never be Queen (or Queen Consort, or whatever). He's still not that popular, but he's going to be King some day. As something of an anti-monarchist, I hope he stays there for a long time. ;)

Monarchs abdicate a lot.
No they don't. Edward VIII was the first and only British monarch to abdicate, which is why it triggered a constitutional crisis as there was no precedent.

Charles could still abdicate the throne.
Why would he? Edward VIII chose to abdicate because he had to choose between his position as head of the Church of England (which came with being the King) or the woman that he loved, and in that scenario there is is only one choice that any sane man would make. Charles is already married to the woman that he loves, and he has already proven himself willing to marry a woman that he doesn't love in order to get the job, so why would you think that he's likely to abdicate?

The people considering him to be an odious runt doesn't matter, there is no constitutional reason why that would disallow him from holding the throne. This is one of the reasons why I'm an anti-monarchist.

I do kinda like Kate Middleton, though. She seems nice and funny and cute, and definitely not a doormat. She will likely NOT be a mindless drone who does whatever the royal family tells her.

I will be getting up early.. to go to work!

Seriously.. taking the day off to watch some royal wedding? Seriously? Of royalty that's not even your own? Double Seriously? ;)

I will never understand the interest and for some the obsession with celebrities.. they do make a cute couple i'll give them that and i hope they live a happy life and one day make a good King/Queen couple but that's as far as i took it on this subject.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I have a feeling they'll be a lot happier couple than Charles and Diana ever were.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

This is what I found on the title issue.

CBS Celebrity Circuit said:
William is HRH Prince William of Wales. Royal protocol says that because Middleton is not a princess on her own, she can't become HRH Princess Catherine of Wales, but can take William's title and become HRH Princess William of Wales, according to the Telegraph. (There's precedent for that: When Marie Christine von Reibnitz married Prince Michael of Kent, King George V's grandson, she became Princess Michael of Kent.)

And more:

CBSNews said:
The Telegraph reports that recently royal titles have been adapted to accommodate for the times. If the Queen says Middleton may be Princess Catherine of Wales, she can be Princess Catherine of Wales.
Camilla Parker Bowles is technically the Princess of Wales because she's married to William's father, Prince Charles, who is also Prince of Wales. Parker Bowles chose not to use that title because of its associations with Princess Diana, reports the Telegraph, and became the Duchess of Cornwall instead.

considering Charles only married Diana to produce an heir and a spare and because he was being pressured into marrying for the first reason, whereas Bill and Cath are getting married because they're crazy about one another, that wouldn't be hard.

as for Charles missing out, i personally hope that when Lizzie pegs it at 120 and Chuck's like 90 or something, someone will say 'srsly, dude, let your son take over.'

i've never liked charlie-boy and i never will.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I always fancied Prince Andrew, myself. Now he was a "good sort" in his 20s.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I don't think Charles will get passed over unless he dies before his mother.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Wont be watching it due to being at work and then packing for vacation, but I will be looking at every single picture and mini-vid with highlights that will be produced.

Also, for the exact same reasons I missed the swedish royal wedding... The only one I ever saw was Sarah and Andrew getting married.

You'll be hard pressed to find a british person who gives much of a shit either, despite the desperate attempts of the news media to drum up a frenzy. Over here people aren't paying it much more mind than "Oh, extra bank holiday? Cool.".

Apparently a fifth of the working population have chosen to have 11 days of holidays. But with 3 million people are going abroad, it's more like a mass exodus from the royal wedding.

As for who is interested, it depends on which part of the country you are from, as the north is less interested than the south judging by the applications for street parties. My neighbourhood is having one.
