Roberto Orci Not Directing Trek XIII

Lin would certainly be a good choice with an eye to the international market. The Fast & Furious movies clean up.

I remember back when that Lin was in talks to do the Terminator movie coming out next year. Not sure what happened to that, but at least he's not averse to a genre film. I think some might assume that because he made the Fast movies that all he can do is stuff with loud cars and witty one-liners. It'd be interesting to see his take, but I don't really believe he'd have any effect on the international market.

No doubt his films have performed at the box office, but those Fast and Furious films appeal to the lowest common denominator.

While I understand the financial aspect of choosing a bankable director, I would hope that the next ST film could find someone who has a little more substance to his work than Lin, but at the same time can appeal to the modern movie going audience

Lin is a hack. His movies are complete garbage.

Everyone else on the short list I'd be okay with. These seem like directors that could bring a little more maturity back to ST.

Too bad about Duncan, he would have been an interesting choice.

To be fair, the F&F movies are about racing cars. How F&F is treated doesn't necessarily indicate that Star Trek will be given the same treatment. I mean, Jeff Daniels has played Harry Dunn, but he's also played Will McAvoy.

It's not maturity. There hasn't been a loss of maturity (there has to be maturity for there to be a loss of said quality). No, the word you're looking for is "stodginess." That end result that comes from the desire to put things back where they belong, as nature intended.™

I like the Fast & Furious movies, so I'm sure I'll enjoy a Justin Lin Star Trek if that's what we get. The action would certainly be awesome. :)

Perfect!

I'm being serious as well. If the Star Trek movies are going to be balls-to-the-wall action movies, Lin would deliver in that regard, more so than the others.

That Faraci idiot is at it again with his inside sources

I wonder if Paramount basically forced Orci to quit. If he did quit it was a surprise to many members of his pre-production team, who didn't see it coming. But what would have made him quit? What was the source of the disagreement between Orci and Paramount?

Guardians of the Galaxy
. That's the movie that has a bug up Paramount's ass, and they want Star Trek 3 to feel more like Guardians. This comes on the heels of the first two movies being respectable, solid earners but not the kind of home runs Paramount needs. They want the third film to be huge, and they want it to be huge overseas especially. They look at Rocket and Groot and then they look at Keenser and they wonder why he doesn't have more of a role.

If this is why Orci left I'm disappointed in him. If the studio is pushing to make a Trek movie that he feels won't be a proper Trek movie (and this is the guy who wrote Star Trek Into Darkness, the least Trek movie ever made), is quitting the right way to go? Why not stay and fight the good fight?

If there's any truth to this, then we are looking at the spiritual successor to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier next. Where humor is forced on the production because it has been successful somewhere else.

People will be looking at the Orci written movies as the good 'ole days afterward.

Hey, I'm all for more Keenser. The reboot is packed with cool new aliens, giving them more to do than just stand around in the background is fine by me. I recall from the Early Voyages comics, an alien on Pike's crew who was pyrokinetic. That would be pretty damn awesome to see in a Trek movie (and would probably cause endless hilarious fanrage online)

That said, the article is purely speculation and should be taken as such.

I really don't remember that one. Interesting.

I generally don't take what Faraci says that seriously, especially when it comes to Trek.

Before Faraci was revelling in Orci's departure, claiming he was fired -- now he's criticizing him for quitting rather than fighting the good fight?

What a blowhard.

Chris Pine appeared on "Good Morning America". During his time on the show, he said that filming would begin sometime next year and that he hasn't seen a script.

In August 2014, the first draft of the script was completed. According to TrekMovie, the next steps would be,

If Paramount likes the way things are going, then the next steps (while additional drafts are being developed) would include finalizing Orci’s directing deal, setting a budget for the film and of course setting a release date.

As we know, the next step fell through, with no directing deal.

Hi Everybody! =)

...i got sick of dealing with partisan censorship and sycophantic trolls (eyesroll) over at trekmovie =P

...looks to me like bad robot / nu-trek are gonna (deservedly) bite the big one...

i'll probly be hanging out on the Axanar thread... looking forward to positive announcements from CBS after the new year! ;-)

Looks like it's gonna be a GREAT 50th! =D

Even if CBS does announce a new series, there won't be anything ready for 2016. And if it's Enterprise Season Five as certain people keep saying over and over, Star Trek is as f:censored:d as f:censored:d can be.
