RIP Whitney Houston

It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, and dignity.

It was written about Muhammad Ali, years before anyone ever heard of Houston.

I already said there was a time when I would actually start crying when I heard "I will always love you" and it's those kind of memories I will always remember Whitney Houston by.

Written and recorded by Dolly Parton, years before anyone ever heard of Houston.

Jimi Hendrix did a remake to Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. Dylan love it so much that he started playing Hendrix's version.
Trent Reznor was emotionally moved by Johnny Cash's verson of his songs Hurt.
I also believe that George Benson (who I think wrote The Greatest Love of All) like Houston's version of the song.

So chilled or go away if you have nothing good to say.

Now I never thought of myself as a big fan of Whitney Houston. I like some of her songs and I'm one of the few who thought that her rendition of the National Anthem is a bit too much. But I thought that she was gifted and talented woman who had a lot going for her.

Rest in Peace, Whitney. God has a special place for you.

This is what really bothers me. We celebrate the life of someone who couldn't control their own stupidity. Instead of 'celebrating' her life we should be using these scenarios as object lessons for our children. No matter how talented, how famous or how much money one has... they're never able to outrun their stupidity.

Pictures of a dead rock star who choked on their own vomit or drowned in a bath tub would probably be far more effective on youth than any other campaign on the dangers of drugs.

If there is a heaven and a hell, I hope she's got beachfront property on the 'Lake of Fire'. Based on the talent and the luck she squandered in this life she deserves no less. YMMV.

It wasn't just her voice that was one of a kind, it was her radiant smile as well. Such a loss. My heart goes out to her family.

I listened to part of "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack today with my youngest niece in the car. Whitney was a wonderful gospel singer...

Sad really

This, while rough around the edges (not sure I'd go with "stupidity" in a memorial thread, but whatevs) is certainly fair and to the point and pretty genuinely accurate. It could be more eloquent, but again, whatevs.

It'd be much more direct in communicating the cause and (possible and likely) effect of excessive drug abuse, yes. Still ok...

My mileage does vary, sir, and I find myself really, really glad you aren't the one in charge of such things.

I mean, its one thing to be vindictive about something, its another thing entirely to be vindictive about something so goddamn stupid.

Nobody "deserves" to rot in hell solely because they "squandered" their talent by abusing drugs and alcohol.

Sad really

What's she being given credit for? And did someone say she was a hero?

She's a well known, talented person who died young and had a history of substance abuse. That's about it. Not sure what's accomplished by dragging the death of servicemen into it.

Heros?

Well they're not heroes of spelling, I can tell you that

:guffaw:

What circle of hell is reserves for nasty mean spirited self righteous a-holes who think they get to tell other people when they should be sad?
