I did get to meet him once. It was his fiftieth birthday, celebrated at the Denver Star Trek convention, and we bumped into each other in the main hallway. He said he enjoyed getting out among the fans.

Walter was on the 60th cruise. I wish I were there. Really took time for his fans.

No one has mentioned Walter's role in Starlost as an Alien named Oro in two episodes, so I just did. Fun little Sci-Fi show starring Keir Dullea. I met Walter in 1975 at a very early Star Trek Convention August 7–10, 1975 at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel, also with George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and James Doohan. Someone stole Walter's wallet at that convention. I met Kier to complete the Starlost set at a high school reunion, his 40th, in 1994.
This is pretty much unique among roles that have been recast/rebooted etc, right?
i found a scifi novel written by koenig at the annual book sale this year. guess i should give it a read soon...
Met Walter some years ago at DragonCon. He was a real delight. You can tell he truly enjoyed being among fans. Had a great conversation about his portrayal of Bester on B5. Great sense of humor, too.

For the mainstays, yes. (We've also lost an interim Sulu from TREK CONTINUES. And I shamefully keep forgetting his name.
