Riker/Troi... do you wish they'd done something with it sooner?

I'm not really a fan of the main characters in a show like star trek being romantically involved with each other, at least not with there being plots revolving around it

You mean like DS9's Change Of Heart for example.

been a while since I've watched that one but I might have to admit a certain level of inconsistency as I don't remember hating it

although that plot could have also been done without them being romantically involved. two officers that are friends and both important in the command structure of the station. one decides a defector that maybe doesn't exist or maybe has been given bad info (like in that TNG episode with the Romulan defector that was purposely given bad information to see if he'd defect) isn't worth the life of their fellow officer

I don't think Worf's excuse for disobeying orders would have worked at all, if it was a friend instead of a spouse. People would not have understood why he wasn't tried for dereliction of duty.

I still have only seen Insurrection once, but I remember the Riker-Troi scenes surprised me as being the most enjoyable of the movie.

Frakes and Sirtis had undeniable chemistry.

I love the episode where Troi answers the door looking all seductive, and Riker walks in with a HUGE smile but then spots that younger officer inside, Riker looking taken aback.

I'm sure a lot of us can relate to that.

Deanna behaving like a dominatrix for the first and last time of the series.

I hear it's Sirtis that asked if she could wear a uniform instead of her usual outfits. So the order that Jellico gave her was really to indulge the actress. Same thing about the fish, Patrick Stewart really hated that fish.

Still from an in-universe perspective I would have found it better if it had been Troi herself (perhaps after doing the Bridge Officer exam) who made the decision to switch to a standard uniform instead of being told to do so. Strong, independent woman right there:rolleyes:.

It was interesting to see a different take on Troi. She was pretty convincing at being menacing and deranged.

^Marina is a good actress, they just underused her. I recall reading that she sometimes tired to play Troi with something of a sharp/sardonic wit only for the producers/directors/writers to tell her to stop because "Troi is not funny."

They also made her sound kinda stupid in the first seasons, stating the obvious. Like: "Captain, he is angry."

The kind of thing you want to answer with: "Well, duh!"

I didn't have a problem with Troi's portrayal in general. She definitely endeared herself to the audience IMO. As a matter of fact, I had a poster of her up on my wall when I was 15. :)

The only problem with her is that she didn't always get the strongest episodes when they focused on her, but I also think her episodes are unfairly maligned.

^ She was a interesting character and every now and then Marina did manage to smuggle a bit of humour past the producers, like in the Icarus factor, the impish way she says "No..." to Worf was awesome, or how she remembers Worf if she becomes his "step-sister" (Alexander's guardian) then Lwaxana will be his step mother. Troi humor was far and between but it was good, seemed to suit the character and it would have been nice to grant the character more of those lines.

There was several "Troi and Worf get together" episodes. I've always wondered if they were going somewhere with that and then changed their minds about it.

I think one thing some fans find unsatisfying about Worf/Troi is that the writers had always said trying to do an ongoing Riker/Troi romantic subplot would've been too difficult to pull off, and yet it's okay for them to throw in this Pair-The-Spares move?

I really like one deleted line Troi had in the "Nemesis" script, where she, Riker and Worf are discussing the custom of going naked on Betazed, and Worf is embarrassed. Troi admonishes him by saying something like, "... besides, Worf, *I've* already seen it". I can imagine Sirtis delivering that line with relish, maybe glancing briefly down to Worf's pants as she does so, while Frakes grins broadly in the background.

I wonder if Worf has revealed in his report about his experience in quantum realities that in some of them Deanna and him were married with children? Honesty and thoroughness is supposed to be the mark of a starfleet officer, isn't it?

It was probably his pick up line.

"Hey babe, you and me were married in another quantum reality. Want to play footsie?"

She could've transfered with Worf to DS9 and really screwed up the chain of command, being a full Commander :)
I'm really surprised that Marina didn't try to join DS9 - especially since she and Dorn were such good friends and all, like that. Did she retire after TNG, except for the STAR TREK movies? What else is she known for?
