Red Dawn trailer finally out

Yes, because everything in the world is just peace and love and fluffy puppies and there are no outlaw states in the world looking to grab for power...

No, because North Korea is not going to invade the US with a magical superweapon and be repelled by hunky teenagers. And the fact that you consider it some kind of warning of a realistic scenario we have to prepare for just further makes my original point.

Hmmm...

Only watched it without the sound on at the moment as I'm at work but a few points.

North Korea invade America...seriously? As preposterous as the original was, the notion of a Russian/Cuban army invading from the south did at least make a modicum of sense, but North Korea, despite having a huge army, hasn't the means to transport them anywhere, least of all America. Suspending your disbelief is one thing, but even the most fantastical of stories should have a hint of logic behind them.

Although, there is a possible explanation. I note the Koreans are led by Colonel Moon from Die Another Day, so obviously this film is set in an alternate universe where Bond failed, and Moon has defeated the West using his giant space 'laser'. Ok that makes more sense.

I like how Hemsworth appears to take them to hide out at the cabin in the woods

Actually, when they shot it, it was a Chinese invasion, but they changed it to NK in post production because they didn't want to upset their Chinese audience. Not that an invasion by the Chinese is that much more likely...

A for my opinion of the trailer: I couldn't stand the original, and this one, while more polished, looks even worse.

Despite their huge military, North Korea would have trouble grabbing America Ferrera, much less America.

Besides extreme paranoia and occasional threat displays, their primary preoccupation is with feeding, providing heating oil, and maintaining control over their own starving, freezing, indoctrinated populace, not with projecting power across the Pacific. There's no danger of North Korea ever invading the US.

Even if they had gone with using China as originally intended, which is slightly more realistic logistically (although they lack mass cross-Pacific power projection abilities too) even though they have no reason to invade us either, the movie concept itself is still horribly outdated. It worked as a cheesy action movie and militia wet dream during the height of the Cold War, but now it's just unintentionally funny.

The day we all agree that "it can't happen here" is the day it does.

That is why we must be constantly vigilant.

Though I do agree that a subversion from within (such as by Islamofascists) is more likely than an old-style invasion.

What a sad, paranoid little world you must live in.

I'm more worried about what people who use terms like "Islamofascists" might do (like shoot up a Sikh temple because they mistakenly think they're "Islamofascists" trying to impose Sharia Law on America) than anything else mentioned here.
