Now you make me wish it was SHOUTING SPOCK!
SHOUTING ROBAU WITH A VULCAN!!!
Now you make me wish it was SHOUTING SPOCK!
Who is, of course, the Red Angel.![]()
AND WITH THIS STAR TREK HAS REACHED PEAK COOLNESS AND CULTURAL RELEVANCE.
Perhaps Spock couldn't mind meld sufficiently through the helmet. Hence his perception of humanity but not identity. He's also never mind melded with Michael as far as we know, so how does he know what her mind would be like?
As much as I think all signs point to Michael and a predestination paradox (like Harry Potter saving himself from the Dementors with his Patronus spell) - and I would be perfectly satisfied with that - I find myself intensely intrigued by the idea of the Red Angel being a manifestation of Zora, Discovery's AI.
But how could she be human? How do you explain that? Well, some other people in other forums came up with an intriguing tie in with events we've already seen this season. What if Zora, having sufficiently evolved to basically be a sentient/sapient individual that can feel loneliness and have a sense of morality and compassion, found a way to take herself into the mycelial network and ask the creatures there to build her a body like they did for Culber. We've seen that with the addition of human DNA an energy being/Katra/consciousness from the mycelial network can be materialized into stable matter in the real world. This is how we can get Zora as an actual humanoid.
But how would she know when and where to jump back? With the help of the Discovery crew who would leave her all the information she would need, and the top secret personal spore drive suit that S31 is presumably developing (Project Daedalus maybe?)?
This would also tie in to the overall themes of faith vs science. At some point the Discovery crew realize they have to leave the ship somewhere in order to evolve its computer and have it be the one to save them all from the impending doom. They will have to be acting on faith that Zora, as the RA from the future, can fulfill what's required of her to restore the timeline and prevent the Federation from being annihilated by S31s rogue CONTROL threat assessment program or whatever the true enemy is.
There's a certain amount of poetry in the thought that Discovery could become an avatar to save its own crew and the galaxy from an AI threat.
Someone mentioned to me that the ship is also a character in each of the Trek series. And that's why some viewers want to see more of it and are disappointed we don't get as many wide angle shots. I was never one for ship porn, but this a perspective I can appreciate. Imagine if it was taken a step even further. Not only does Discovery become a 'person' but she also saves those she was meant to protect, transcending time and space while doing it.
Yeah, this speculation has a ton of holes and is probably not how things will play out, but I think it could resonate on a level that is pretty epic.
He's the Sovereign. He can be anything.Unless the Red Angel is David Bowie!
There was a lot of character building just to throw it out. You might be on to something.I have a theory, but it relates directly to the episode "Project Daedalus".
So Project Daedalus... I think we need to be more literal with the Red Angel. Daedalus was Icarus' father, who made wings so both could escape their situation. Icarus flew too close to the sun and died when the wax between the wings melted. It seems to me the Red Angel is an offspring of whoever built those wings, as red can also signify death, like bleeding out. Which tells me the Red Angel is fated to not survive. Given Burnham is the lead, I sincerely doubt she is the Red Angel, as I have seen that theory often stated. In this case, a thought occured to me... I am wondering if Airiam is the Red Angel. Perhaps sometime in the future, her body is recovered and since her mind houses all that AI knowledge from the sphere, she could be considered a child of that AI. Perhaps even the future DISCOVERY we saw in the SHORT TREK episode "CALYPSO" would be the one to find her, download that AI knowledge, and evolve itself into what we saw.
Or perhaps that is wishful thinking, becaise I am very, very sad that Airiam was killed. She was a standout secondary character. I was looking forward to learning about her the most, out of the other bridge crew.

Don’t hold your breath. She’s not being written off and she’s not getting a different backstory.Michael being written off, or does the show get a reset and does she return with a completely different backstory?
The trailer for episode 10 is very Burnham heavy. Right now I can't see the Red Angel being anyone but Burnham, and it would take some seriously good writing to explain it away as someone else.
Burnham as the red angel and pressing reset would be a clean way to explain away the Klingon war and why Spock or anyone has never mentioned her.
If I'm right my only question would be is Michael being written off, or does the show get a reset and does she return with a completely different backstory?
The way they keep on mentioning Burnham's biological parents makes me think one of them could very well be the person in the Red Angel suit. But yeah, it'll probably be Michael herself. But then again, why would she prevent her own death as a child on Vulcan but not her parent's death earlier?
Very interesting theory! If done well this could be a clever way to wrap up the story. As the RA, I think she already did/will save them. [If she is the RA, that is.] That idea is hashed out a bit in another thread: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/have-we-seen-burnhams-parents-yet-in-flashbacks.298546/page-2
Good theory. AlsoI think Airiam memories downloaded into Discovery computers will evolve into Zora
I'm going to get a few more out of my system, silly or not:
Carol Marcus
Saavik
Peter Preston
Computer of the original Enterprise
Computer of Reliant
Combination of both of those
Flint....actually, I don't think that's all that silly, especially if the suit masks as female but the occupant could be male.
Okay, I am 100% done with guesses now.![]()
