Rats invade space!!!

I remember when I saw that Rat, or was it a mouse, in the Wrath of Khan. I thought, gee, those buggers are following mankind into space. We know that DS9 had some kind of rodent infestation. (Though, when ODO shifted in that first episode, he became a mouse.)

So I wonder if the Earth pests are becoming the dominant rodent/pests of the galaxy. They seem unbeatable here on Earth. Or do you think the pests from Gorn/Kronos or Romulus are more dominant in space?

Interesting thread Mr. Scorpio:techman:

Earth's pests & swarms are bad enough:angryrazz:

Hate to see what Vulcan, Centauri Prime, Arcturus {mentioned briefly in ALIENS}, Nebulos/Nebulon, the Newcomer Homeworld, Talaria or the V-isitor Homeworld have to offer re: bugs & such:eek:

The fun thing is the introduction of new species into ecosystems that aren't prepered for them. A house cat let loose in the wild can quickly become a super-predator, sitting at the top of the local food chain. Wild dogs, feral cats, and rabbits, all introduced by colonists, have come to dominate Australia's wilderness. Mice, likewise, are survivors who will find a way.

I seem to recall something being said about Babylon 5 having rodents. Either a bit of dialogue or a comment from JMS about how they get into shipments sent to the station and end up thriving there.

I guess I see Vulcans as being too thorough to let that happen. Klingons, actually I liked how Kruge had his pet on the ship in TSFS and I picture Klingon ships infested with rodents, if, for no other reason than to have something to kill when bored!

The Federation seems to pride itself on cleanliness and orderliness, so I imagine there aren't any on Starfleet ships.

Have there been any real life stories about critters making it aboard a space shuttle or onto a space station?

Ants. G'Kar and Sakai. Sigma 957. Does that help? :)

I watched 'Past Prologue' this weekend, and I've always wondered how Odo knew what an Earth rodent looked like...Why not shapeshift into a Cardassian vole since they were predominate pests on the station?

I'm now trying to think of what kind of pests we have seen or heard mentioned in Trek. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head is O'briens's story about Talarian hook spiders.
There were those moon spider things from the Circle trilogy, that Kira mentioned to Dax that the resistance would sometimes eat, or use for target practice.

Yes! That was it! Can't believe I forgot that, seeing as how it was a pretty memorable scene and all!

Wasn't DS9 infested by Cardassian Voles?

Yes, although they were supposedly eradicated twice. This may be a result of the vast amounts of shipping containers brought from all over the galaxy on to Deep Space 9 and the fact that a few individuals brought them on to the station to stage illegal Vole fights.

It's also said that they breed like Tribbles so it's no surprise that the station ended up infested.
