I don't know much about how this thing works but with all these trailers and ads coming out and the premiere being a month away...
Shouldn't the film have received its rating by now ?

It's not really important, I'm just curious.

Definitely PG-13.
Even if this film somehow gets rated PG, the filmmakers will go back and add a few more explosions and a few more deaths to make sure it gets a PG-13.

PG has virtually caught the same "strictly for kids" stigma as Rated G; and Rated R excludes minors without parents. All that leaves is PG-13.

It will be NC-17 because Kirk and Spock finally get to do that scene together... you know the one...

Opinions and speculation is good and all but anyone can actually offer some insight on what I asked in my op ? :p

Either the MPAA probably hasn't gotten around to reviewing the movie yet or they're arguing over some borderline content that will make a difference the rating.

I don't really know how it works, either, nor how far in advance of release a film typically receives its rating, (I can think of one recent example where the back-and-forth between filmmaker and rating committee went down almost to the week of release) but Star Trek's filmmakers said months ago and on more than one occasion that they were aiming for a PG-13 rating.

Any of you ever see the film "this film is not yet rated"? let me just say it says a lot about what goes on behind closed doors!

Well I think the MPAA just hasn't sat down and done it yet. The movie is done. Locked away for no more editing. So it seems that are just behind on screening this one..

I'm guessing PG. There's a marketing effort to kids, and Star Trek tends to avoid profanity.

Oh, I don't know -- even Harry Potter films had moved away from PG to PG-13 for the past two films (although I think the next film is supposed to be PG).
