Rap Music Should Be Included In Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

^ The second sentence of that post has some truth. The first most certainly does not, and is a ludicrous statement.
It's ludicrous because rock died a long time ago. Well, I shouldn't say that. It's just been in a coma for a long, long time. It might come back one of these days.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Just looking at your favourite band list, plenty of thse bands have put out fantastic albums in the last few years, some of them are doing the best stuff of their lives IMO (Maiden for instance).

Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Them Crooked Vultures have all put out tremendous albums just in the last couple of months
I never made any kind of favorite bands list.

Well, all I do is simply suggest that somebody make a rap music hall of fame to honor rap artists (page 6) instead of putting them in the rock and roll one because I don't think rap qualifies as rock (and instead is it's own genre) and I get lambasted by numerous people trying to pick apart my posts and put words in my mouth and make me seem like I'm somehow against rap or being closed minded for it. Wouldn't it kind of annoy you a bit too?

Give us a break. You said putting rap in the Rock Hall of Fame is like showing porn to kids. And then when I said that was a dumb comment, you decided to get condescending and explain the word "analogy" to me, complete with a dictionary link. When you do things like that, it has a tendency to rile people up.

Granted I probabally could have phrased it better, but felt no need to be unnecessarily diplomatic on an issue with such an easy fix.

First of all, a lot of people don't believe there's anything that needs to be "fixed" here. Rap and hip hop belong in the Hall of Fame just as much as folk, country, jazz, and disco artists.

Second, if you want to see the Rock Hall of Fame changed to be strictly "rock" as you define it, you're going to have to excommunicate a whole lot of artists. Telling dozens of inductees, "oops, sorry, we messed up, we're taking you out of the Hall of Fame" doesn't sound that "easy" to me.

The Hall is useless. It has no credibility having not inducted these guys:

The only reason is that the editors of Rolling Stone don't like them.

They're all pansies

Oh really?

Well, for starters:
Iron Maiden
Slayer
Judas Priest
Megadeth
Metallica
Dio
Black Sabbath
Emperor
Cannibal Corpse
Obituary
Pantera
Sepultura
White Zombie
Down
Motley Crue
Guns 'N Roses
Alice In Chains
Misfits
Entombed
Ramones
Testament
Morbid Angel
Mercyful Fate
Motorhead
Queen
Celtic Frost
Faith No More
Acid Bath
RHCP
old Van Halen
The Cure
Fu Manchu
AC/DC
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Dimmu Borgir
Accept
Gorguts
Goatwhore
etc, etc etc

Rap belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just as much as folk, country, jazz, disco, classical music, and yodelling.

well guys, ever since i first noticed this thread, and been thinking about it, i've had a song on repeat in my head. it was ok for the first 5 or 6 hours; but days later its driving me crazy...

maybe i can pass it off out of my head and into some of yours!!! :guffaw:

the classic Aerosmith/Run DMC "Walk this Way"

Maybe listening to the Beastie Boys doing "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" will help.

Just because we have a black president doesn't mean that a lot of people don't still carry deep seated bigotry against blacks. Electing Barrack Obama didn't fix any of the racial divides present in America.
I didn't say racism was over, I said things are better than they use to be. If they were not, he could not have been elected.

So I guess everybody else that was inducted are just shit because they aren't Rush? Who weren't even popular in the USA (that much)? (a qualifier for R&RHOF status, IIRC).

Maybe Rush will be inducted next year-it is possible.:vulcan:
And since when did Rolling Stone have any influence on who gets in?

Yes, really. The thread was titled "What bands do you really love?" I rattled off a bunch of bands I really love. If I were to compile a list of my all time favorites, it would be quite different and require much more thought.

...or the country was so desperate to get rid of Bush & Republicans, they would have voted anybody in the seat.

I don't know, I guess George Clinton can get bragging rights to his song: "Paint the White House Black" now.
