Random speculations thread!

The Stamets mirror scene was a callback to the scene in The Tholian Web where Uhura sees phased Kirk in her mirror. Stamets is actually experiencing interphase and he will not only reach the mirror universe this way (as established in In a Mirror Darkly), he will be the first to suffer the madness that will affect the Defiant crew. Thus Discovery will be a prequel to The Tholian Web and a sequel to In A Mirror Darkly, which itself was a sequel to The Tholian Web and a prequel to Mirror Mirror.

We can't have Stamets (or others) getting painfully jabbed and made bloody with the penetrating interface probes inside the chamber with each jump - it's cruel and inhuman. So I speculate that probe jabbing will be replaced with a more humane interface, possibly involving an implant with an external interface, along with a comfy chair inside the chamber. The comfy chair might have a control panel to initiate jump. A robotic system will then connect to the interface, possibly located on the temples, or torso. Of course, probe jabbing was also cruel and inhuman to the tardigrade.

Ash has a secret, but he isn't a spy. He is the son of a human mother and an augment Klingon father.

He might have spent time with Klingons, but instead he chose to join starfleet. It would explain his Klingon fighting skills and why he was kept alive as a prisoner and used as a sex slave by the Klingon female.

From E7:
Lt. Stamets: Speaking of different, look at this cybernetic augment that my resident genius here built for me!
Dr. Culber: We're trying to make his connection to the spore drive more comfortable.

As I predicted! In E7 we have the predicted "implant with an external interface" as the "cybernetic augment". I got the implant location wrong, it is on the forearms, not on the temples or torso.

And in the E8 preview, we see how the "robotic system will then connect to the interface", and YES INDEED we even have the comfy chair! - as a full body support - look closely.

I reckon both Episodes 8 and 9 end on juicy-as-fuck cliffhangers. And the show won't return from its break until 28th/29th January.

We are all familiar with that old Roddenberry story idea were he had Klingons, killing JFK and what better time to do it than now? We got Klingons and it is something that would change the war and also make him, supreme leader of the Klingon Empire. Plus we know he and the female Klingons, helping him told him he would have to go somewhere to help win the war and basically face challenges he has never had to before.

The bonus side is we can even do a story that works in another Disco reference as they are working overtime to get rid of that STD label. Perhaps the Klingons do kill JFK and the crew's attempt to stop it gets messed up and they find themselves in the 70's were VOQ was unable to to get back to the present and he is now having to make a living as a bouncer at Studio 54, which also gives us our chance to also get our oral sex moment in as well! He agree's to restore the timeline just so he can get away from 70's earth.

Why would the Klingons want to kill JFK?

Why would the Klingons want to kill JFK?
I for one was not familiar with that old story idea and had to google it. Apparently the Klingons don't want to kill JFK, they want to save him. It's City on the Edge of Forever except JFK has to die instead of Edith.

I didnt know about this, but a little digging show that the Klingons actually saved jfk by stopping the assassination, but it was Kirk that went back and made sure jfk got killed anyway. I can imagine why this idea got rejected
Edit:ninja..

Thank you both. I just read an article about it and holy shit... This is one of roddenberry's visions i'm glad never saw the light of day.

The story idea was so stupid that it was literally proposed as a possible script for every Star Trek movie after TMP and never got past draft memo form.

Yeah I read that. Apparently he took the first rejection so badly he resorted to booze and blow to cope :wtf:

It looks like the "black badges" are Discovery's version of the Night's Watch.

discovery_black_badge.png

The Night's Watch is a military order. . . .

Joining the Watch provides absolution for past crimes and immunity from further punishment. Brothers start with a clean slate and can rise within the ranks whatever their origins.

[. . .]

Men of the Watch dress entirely in black, giving rise to the nickname "crows".

[. . .]

"Once a man has taken the black, he is beyond reach of the law. All his past crimes are forgiven."
―Maester Luwin

The Night's Watch has no heraldic symbol, to emphasize its sworn duty to be removed from petty politics of one lordly House or another, but to defend the lands of men as a whole. Thus, the Night's Watch uses solid black on its banner and shields, which symbolize the erasure of any allegiance to noble Houses.

Section 31?

The new Klingons are the Thenns (a.k.a. "the Thenn"):

Thenns.jpg

The Thenn people (alternatively referred to as "the Thenn") are the most advanced and best equipped of the wildling tribes, as well as the most disciplined. Thenns also shave their heads bald and engage in self-scarification as well as cannibalism, feasting on the flesh of their enemies.

This is just an observation.
