Psych

I kind of like it, but I find the incredible immaturity of the characters running Psych (Gus and what's-his-name) to be really grating. Yes, I get that it's supposed to be a comedy, but the lack of realism in their frequent bouts of juvenalia when their lives are threatened (the episode where what's-his-name *had* to stop and ride the dolphin, in the middle of their trying to escape, was over the top -- if it had been a book, that would have been where I would have thrown it against the wall) drives me crazy and makes me want to punch the writers. And the characters.

In other words: the joke is completely lost on you.

I wouldn't know about that, at times I find him annoying too, but I know that's the point behind the character. He's an annoying, sometimes moron, who happens to be right most of the time, and has a few oddball quirks that manifest at the wrong time (sounds kinda farmiliar...), but either way, the show is good times.

Psych is a show I fell in love with early on and continue to enjoy to this day.
I love how they maintain the relationships between the various characters and continute to experiment with new twists on old cliches.

The Ying-Yang Killer for example...

I stopped caring about Monk about the time Sharona Checked out and stopped watching after Natalie's first season. I did pick it back up for the last 10 or so episodes off the last season just to see how they wrapped up the Trudy plotline, but honestly the writing on Monk had been terrible for years at that point. Nothing against the actors though.

Oh!

You have to love the Theme song to Psych!

It's perfect.

I love Psych!

I've been watching it since day one, I just happened to have nothing to do and caught the show! I love the 80'd references and the quips at Lassie and now Lassie getting some shots in of his own!

The characters play off one another great and the hunt for each episodes pinapple is hilarious!

Anyways Im staying with it and The Mentalist folks deserve each and every comment made on the show for copying Psych :P

Vons

^^ That is awesome! I've seen most of the episodes, but I honestly can't recall pineapples.

Next stop... Netflix.

There is no joke to be lost.

He is infantile. That's not a joke, that's a behavior.

And it is an annoying behavior at times.

Actually, I find "The Mentalist" to be a vastly superior show. While it, too, has comedic elements, it's far more realistic (a police force actually *hiring* a long term psychic? Please!) and people *act* more like real people than juvenile idiots all the time.

^I've always thought the Chief has known from Day One that Spencer was just pretending to be Psychic, but had to play along otherwise she'd have to do something about it.

i LOVE psych....and Monk....nearly as much as Trek...the other day, when Lassie choked Shawn, i was laughing to the point that i couldn't breath :-D

that's actually what drew me to the show from day one...the goofiness....i'm the same way....i'm so silly sometimes even kids complain....

Yes there is, regarding the dolphin riding scene you mentioned in your rant about his behavior. You totally didn't get the joke for why he was riding the dolphin and instead just saw it as stupidity. Thus, as was mentioned, the joke was completely lost on you.

It's like crying about how stupid some comedian is because you don't understand his jokes, and instead think he just says random words.

Great show. The cast really plays off each other well and contributes to the humor in a unique way. I love all the little in-jokes and references.

Agreed. I've been watching the dhow from day one, and all the of those things really make it. The constant 80's references alone are golden.

Also, all of the actors just seemed to click off the bat. It seems like it would be a heck of a fun set to work on.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about the show.

They make fun of everything..themselves, their circumstances, the plot...nothing is sacred and that's what makes it so much fun.

I do take a break from it occasionally, but always come back for more.

Love Psych. It's one of the few shows that consistently makes me laugh out loud. It's just goofy fun.

Saying "there is no joke" pretty much sinks you right out of the gate.

That may be your opinion, but I maintain (as my opinion) that there *is* no joke, other than infantile behavior.

That isn't a joke. It may be funny, but it's not a joke. Someone slipping on a banana isn't a joke, either, but it can be funny. A pie in the face may be funny, but it isn't a joke, either.

Wow. You really are oblivious here, aren't you? Let's try doing this with an example.

Say there's a comedy show that often breaks the fourth wall as part of its humor. Now let's say on a very special episode, Leonard Nimoy shows up and plays a scientist working in some lab, and at some point in the episode, the lead performs the Vulcan salute and says, "Live long and prosper."

Continuing the example, you have never heard of Leonard Nimoy. Or Star Trek. Or Vulcans. Or anything relating to it whatsoever.

Now, instead of asking your friends why they all laughed at the scene, you'd be the jerk foaming at the mouth about how unfunny the scene was because it didn't make any sense. All he did was split his fingers and say some cryptic phrase that didn't even apply to the scene. OMG, HOW DARE HE! HE IS SO UNFUNNY, WHAT AN INFANTILE JERK!

Finally, people try to settle you down by explaining that type of humor. But instead of asking them to explain that particular gag, you continue to foam at the mouth like a rabid dog about how stupid it is, then go on a completely different tangent about banana peels and pies to the face.

Did you all watch this past week's episode? It was another great one, that had both dramatic and hilarious parts. I loved when Shawn put on all of that catchers gear to run past the dog... and also his speech at the end to Jules about the cereal box. What do you all think, do you want them to get togiether?
