I posted part of this idea in the literature section a few months ago. I don't think it was the right place as it was just an outline and not a narrative. Since then I've worked out a lot more details to flesh it out as a full circle show.
Lt Lathu a suilban is taken to the Lilal system, a worthless sector of space where he boards a cloaked ship; the USS Quantum. An experimental Quantum class starship. Lathu is informed by Admiral Dougherty that he has been promoted to captain on the condition that he upholds the secrecy of the mission and the illegal use of a cloaking device. He cannot believe his luck, as he was demoted from commander and position as 1st officer during an incident where he disobeyed orders to save his captain's (and lover's) life- ending his track to promotion as a captain.
Latu meets his crew. They are not typical starfleet officers. They are loyal to the admiral and concerned only with the mission. The first officer is married to the admiral and has a family member onboard Voyager lost in the delta quadrant. The admiral explains that they have rushed the ship out of production to create a wormhole to reach Voyager and bring them home.
Captain Lathu learns the ship has a dual power core. One is the standard antimatter warp core. The other is the Quantum Matrix Device. An alien energy extracting device that can cross into multiple universes and is extremely dangerous.
Lathu is having doubts and considers resigning, however he is curious as to how far the chain of command has been compromised with the dereliction of duty and Starfleet principles. They are ready to begin tests to open a wormhole. They only have a small window of opportunity as the Dominion will detect the wormhole .
The ship opens a wormhole but instead of entering the delta quadrant to rescue the USS Voyager they enter the gamma quadrant close to Dominion military bases. Lathu is enraged at the deception. Dougherty says it was necessary to withhold their real destination for security reasons. P’rin a female ferengi who stowed away on Lathu’s runabout is captured. She implies she has an arms deal with the admiral.
Another quantum class ship, the Swiftwind decloaks and together with the Quantum they begin the process to open a new wormhole to the delta quadrant.
Several hours later Ensign Frayda uncovers an unauthorised encoded subspace transmission sent to Dominion space hours earlier. 200 Dominion ships appear from nowhere and attack. Another 3000 are detected waiting to come through the wormhole. Dougherty says this is the Omarion Nebula Incident all over again, and there must be a spy onboard. As the Jem’Hadar attack the 2 Federation ships which are engaged in opening a wormhole and cannot shut down their deflectors, a fleet of 38 other Quantum class ships decloak. A huge battle takes place. The Swiftwind’s command crew are killed and injured in the first wave. Dougherty orders Lathu to beam aboard the Swiftwind and take command.
Lathu is very concerned that so many ships are using illegal technology. The new wormhole finally opens but the area surrounding it starts to fluctuate with graviton waves which hit a nearby planet. The admiral is ecstatic with the stablity of the wormhole. Lathu demands the admiral stop the experiment and return to the alpha quadrant.
On Deep Space 9 Odo has uncovered an arms deal with Gaila, Quark’s cousin and the trail leads to P’rin sneaking onboard Lathu’s runabout. Sisko takes the Defiant to follow it’s warp trail.
The USS Quantum is severely damaged in the attack with the Dominion. Dougherty orders the USS Swiftwind to shut down its wormhole generator technology and divert its power to weapons. 8 Jem’Hadar raiders take on the Swiftwind, Lathu orders all weapons be fired and is surprised at the firepower his ship has for a science vessel. It destroys 5 ships easily. A new phaser cannon using illegal Tholian Triolic crystals fires through the hulls of enemy ships without damaging the vessel but killing the crew with fatal radiation targeted at the Jem’Hadar species.
Lathu is appalled that they have biogenic weapons onboard. The ship is also equipped with ablative armour on vulnerable parts of the ship. The wormhole begins to destabilise as the Quantum is crippled by the Jem’Hadar. Lathu beams most of the Quantum’s and other crippled ship’s crew onboard, and then the Swiftwind is dragged into the wormhole unable to escape the gravity. The nearby planet explodes from the graviton waves. 180 the Dominion ships have been destroyed. All that remains of the rogue Federation fleet is the Quantum. It is doomed as the remaining Dominion ships close in when Defiant decloaks and takes out the rest leaving one crippled Jem’Hadar ship. Sisko beams the remaining Quantum's crew onboard. One of it’s officers informs Sisko of the technology onboard and suggests they destroy, but the Dominion tractor it away.
The admiral demands Sisko follow and destroy it as 20 more Jem’Hadar ships approach but Sisko refuses as they have to close the wormhole before the graviton waves destroy more inhabited planets. Defiant uses its deflector to seal the wormhole which causes a huge shock wave that destroys the region of subspace behind them. The devastation to the area is similar to the effects Omega particles can have; no ships will be able to travel at warp in the region of space again- which has effectively stranded the Quantum and the oncoming Jem’Hadar armada. Defiant then re-enters the other wormhole to DS9 where an angry Sisko demands answers from the Admiral.
The Admiral tells Sisko to back off, that his sensor logs will show no evidence of the Quantum. Odo confronts him with evidence of arms deals. With no way to get out of it the admiral suddenly changes form and attacks the 2 officers. He laughs at them and says that their new fleet is destroyed and the Dominion has captured the new technology to open a new wormhole and destroy planets. Section31’s plans to stop the Dominion in the alpha quadrant, by using wormhole weapons to destroy solar systems in the home territory has failed. Then he beams off the ship with no trace. Sisko realises the changeling had manipulated them all along just like the Tal Shiar/Obsidian Order fleet that was wiped out 3 years ago.
The Swiftwind enters an uncharted region of space. They don't recognise it as the milky way. Lathu is mortified that he's stuck with this crew who don't seem to have a moral compass. They took on many survivors from other ships and are overstretched beyond capacity with 1600 crew on a ship with quarters for 260. He demands that the crew follow Starfleet protocols and disregard the admiral's orders to accomplish their mission at all costs. Nothing is more important than duty to the truth. Another ship approaches. They do not answer hails. They are only able to communicate telepathically through the original ship’s captain Phwanna, a Betazoid and Lathu’s ex partner. She has severe head injuries.
The D'rilmogyn are barely insectisoid energy beings that are curious about the Starfleet ship. They speak to Lathu and inform him he is in another galaxy and are pleased to learn that some of his crew are human- They have heard of humans before. They detect a shockwave approaching through the wormhole and invite the Swiftwind to their planet to take sanctuary.
The Jem’Hadar board the Quantum and activate its EMH. The Vorta changes his programming and is given access to his mission. He realises it will take many years to reach the Dominion at sublight now that subspace has been destroyed so he orders the Jem’Hadar to reopen the wormhole which hadn't completely collapsed. They go through the wormhole and just make it out the other end before another shockwave collapses it, damaging the Quantum.
The D'rimolgyn homeworld is a rich world with technology and living well beyond its natural resources. They explain they are rewarded for their service to their masters but won't say any more.
The Quantum is adrift when a nearby ship offers assistance. The Jem'Hadar kill the crew and strip the ship to repair theirs. They then set a course to the nearest populated planet.
The D'rilmogyn have been in contact with their masters and they have offered to meet the Federation crew and see if they can assist in helping them return home.
When they meet the Swiftwind crew, they reveal an ancient prophecy which fortold of the Starfleet crew’s arrival. And that they will become the saviours of their race. The Ki’kesh take them aboard their ship. They are an ugly race of mutant humanoids disfigured and quite old. Lathu’s crew offer to help some who appear to have injuries. Their assistance is refused, and are informed that a genetic condition in them caused by deep space travel prevents treatment. They are nomads since their planet was destroyed millenia ago in a war with a brutal savage race now extinct.
Dr Shorfule, explores the Ki’Kesh ship and finds a woman who has fallen over. She is terrified of him and he beams her aboard the Swiftwind. She falls unconscious and he scans her and discovers shes human with several genetic sequences missing by mutation. These have caused severe abnormalities in the body. He also notes that there is a fresh wound on her neck and tissue scarring inside that he doesn't know the cause of. And many scars over the rest of her body caused by years of abuse. The woman wakes up and cowers away. She is mentally challenged. The doctor informs Lathu who says he has also found similar people on the Ki’Kesh ship. Shorfule suggests getting them to sickbay for treatment. Lathu agrees but says he will speak to their leaders first.
Captain Phwanna telepathically calms the woman down. She finds out the girl is a slave for the Ki’Kesh. She talks to the doctor and senses he isn’t himself. Someone else has taken over his body. She attempts to overpower the doc but he sends her flying across the room.
Lathu confronts the leader Shwaalshwiel. He admits that they do have some members of their society that are bred for domestic service. Lathu explains the prime directive to Shwaalshweil. But says that he is going to help them, because their genetic code has been altered and therefore it’s not interferring in their natural evolution. Shwaalsheil attacks the captain with superior strength and almost kills him. Thanks to his Suliban genetic modifications he slides out the way and escapes.
He contacts the doctor and tells him to prepare sickbay for the slaves to be treated. The doctor says its not necessary, that they are healthy. Lathu is concerned about this backstep and thinks something has happened to the Doc. He beams back on Swiftwind and finds the Doctor has taken over the bridge and is accessing information on the quantum matrix chamber. He points a phaser at the doc and tells him to stop away or he'll shoot.
The doc then laughs and says that this body has been taken over and if he shoots he'll murder his crewman. Lathu is confused. Sickbay informs him captain Phwanna is dying and that they have scans of the slave showing she had a parasite inside her like one found in 2364 in starfleet command personnel. Lathu says that he'll kill the doctor if necessary to stop their infestation. The doc says hes bluffing and to step aside as he downloads schematics the Quantum matrix chamber. The Federation really is their saviour, they have found a way to get back to the Federation via the Swiftwind.
The decaying and genetically flawed bodies they possess are dying and soon there will be no hosts left. Their race will die with them. They need new hosts. And the power of the Federation is seductive. 8 years ago they received a homing beacon from the milkyway with instructions that the galaxy was perfect for conquest. A fleet of ships has already begun the journey and they will reach the milkyway in 43 years. More ships are being built for intergalactic travel but enemies of the Ki’Kesh have attacked them sporadically; slowing their efforts.
Shorfule amazingly splits into a second version of himself and orders Lathu to fire. Lathu fires at the doctor killing the parasite. The doctor can astral project an avatar of himself and used his subconscious to communicate. He was aware of these creatures already and knew a phaser would disable one.
He beams all the crew from the Ki’Kesh ship and then attempts to flee. The Ki’Kesh ship attacks them and nearly destroys the Swiftwind.
Engineering uses the quantum matrix to increase power to sheilds and weapons and damages the Ki’Kesh ship. Section31 operatives use the illegal phasers to target the Ki’Kesh bridge crew. Swiftwind flees in the direction the Quantum has gone.
Phwanna is at the brink of death when Shorfule ties her consciousness into the computer while placing her body in statsis at Lathu’s insistence. This causes the computer to crash. All systems go offline. When they come back on the computer speaks in Phwanna’s voice. She is an embittered woman due to tragic circumstances between her lost love and won’t be reasonable. She says she’s in command....
And the series continues...
I see a developing storyline of the computer having to be outsmarted and romanced by Lathu for a comedy element. The computer/Phwanna become a main character. A tug of war of over command is ever present between her and Lathu and she is pissed off she can’t physically interact or go on away missions. If the crew attempt to remove her from the ship it will auto destruct.
Swiftwind being hunted for crimes that the Quantum’s Dominion crew committed...mistaken identity kind of thing...
There’s a few decent Feds amongst a lot of bad apples. Lathu doesn’t know who to trust. He still thinks a dominion spy is onboard that sent a message to the Dominion. And maybe there still is.
The Jem’Hadar need ketracel white to survive and are going to suffer withdrawal symptoms and they have also lost their gods. The Jem'Hadar’s withdrawals are the reason for them raising so much havoc in the new galaxy and the Swiftwind gets blamed, making them fugitives on the run.
Eventually the Ki’Kesh find and possess the Jem’Hadar keeping them alive without needing their drugs. At first the Feds aren't aware the Quantum is in this galaxy. When they find out they realise they have to meet up so they can use the dual deflector technology to open a wormhole back home but they don't know the Ki’Kesh have taken over the Jem’Hadar.
The crew learn that travelling through the Quantum Matrix generated wormhole caused them all to be affected by an unknown type of radiation. The same radiation that caused mutations in the Ki’Kesh slaves. It is impossible for them to return by a QM wormhole as a second dose will be lethal.
The Swiftwind eventually travels to a part of space where the stars seems to disappear. Eventually they discover a battle damaged dyson sphere identical to the one in Relics . There is a perfect paradise like class m planet in orbit of the sun inside the sphere. The entire race has mysteriously disappeared leaving an intact city.
The weary crew are spilt into 2 camps. 1 wants to settle on the planet, the other wants to fight the Ki’Kesh and get their kidnapped crew back and free the other humanoid slaves. Lathu agrees for those crew to leave and set up a base on the planet. They explore the ruins and discover there was a war between these aliens and another aggressive species. They persecuted the Dyson sphere aliens for their technology. Ultimately the Dyson sphere aliens used a weapon of mass destruction harnessing the endless supply of power from the sun and destroyed the attacking fleet whom were the Ki’Kesh. This almost destroyed the Ki’Kesh civilisation; only a nest of them survived. Over millenia their numbers grew and they resorted to taking hosts to infiltrate alien governments to attain power and technology to rebuild their society. They are at a point now where they have a fleet of ships ready and they have had designs on the Federation for some time. It has only been a matter of finding a way to travel across the galaxies.
(Unknown to the Swiftwind- the war happened 2000 years in the future -when the Star weapon was used it created a time shift which pulled the Dysphon sphere builders, planet, star and the Ki’Kesh backwards in time 10,000s years. In that time the Ki’Kesh were almost wiped out. The survivors discovered that the Dyson sphere builders were descendants of the Swiftwind crew who set up home on the planet and over millenia built a dyson sphere and formed a new Federation fleet to protect them.

I hope this last bit of the time twist made sense. My head is hurting reading it back lol.
