Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I posted part of this idea in the literature section a few months ago. I don't think it was the right place as it was just an outline and not a narrative. Since then I've worked out a lot more details to flesh it out as a full circle show.

Lt Lathu a suilban is taken to the Lilal system, a worthless sector of space where he boards a cloaked ship; the USS Quantum. An experimental Quantum class starship. Lathu is informed by Admiral Dougherty that he has been promoted to captain on the condition that he upholds the secrecy of the mission and the illegal use of a cloaking device. He cannot believe his luck, as he was demoted from commander and position as 1st officer during an incident where he disobeyed orders to save his captain's (and lover's) life- ending his track to promotion as a captain.

Latu meets his crew. They are not typical starfleet officers. They are loyal to the admiral and concerned only with the mission. The first officer is married to the admiral and has a family member onboard Voyager lost in the delta quadrant. The admiral explains that they have rushed the ship out of production to create a wormhole to reach Voyager and bring them home.

Captain Lathu learns the ship has a dual power core. One is the standard antimatter warp core. The other is the Quantum Matrix Device. An alien energy extracting device that can cross into multiple universes and is extremely dangerous.

Lathu is having doubts and considers resigning, however he is curious as to how far the chain of command has been compromised with the dereliction of duty and Starfleet principles. They are ready to begin tests to open a wormhole. They only have a small window of opportunity as the Dominion will detect the wormhole .

The ship opens a wormhole but instead of entering the delta quadrant to rescue the USS Voyager they enter the gamma quadrant close to Dominion military bases. Lathu is enraged at the deception. Dougherty says it was necessary to withhold their real destination for security reasons. P’rin a female ferengi who stowed away on Lathu’s runabout is captured. She implies she has an arms deal with the admiral.
Another quantum class ship, the Swiftwind decloaks and together with the Quantum they begin the process to open a new wormhole to the delta quadrant.

Several hours later Ensign Frayda uncovers an unauthorised encoded subspace transmission sent to Dominion space hours earlier. 200 Dominion ships appear from nowhere and attack. Another 3000 are detected waiting to come through the wormhole. Dougherty says this is the Omarion Nebula Incident all over again, and there must be a spy onboard. As the Jem’Hadar attack the 2 Federation ships which are engaged in opening a wormhole and cannot shut down their deflectors, a fleet of 38 other Quantum class ships decloak. A huge battle takes place. The Swiftwind’s command crew are killed and injured in the first wave. Dougherty orders Lathu to beam aboard the Swiftwind and take command.

Lathu is very concerned that so many ships are using illegal technology. The new wormhole finally opens but the area surrounding it starts to fluctuate with graviton waves which hit a nearby planet. The admiral is ecstatic with the stablity of the wormhole. Lathu demands the admiral stop the experiment and return to the alpha quadrant.

On Deep Space 9 Odo has uncovered an arms deal with Gaila, Quark’s cousin and the trail leads to P’rin sneaking onboard Lathu’s runabout. Sisko takes the Defiant to follow it’s warp trail.

The USS Quantum is severely damaged in the attack with the Dominion. Dougherty orders the USS Swiftwind to shut down its wormhole generator technology and divert its power to weapons. 8 Jem’Hadar raiders take on the Swiftwind, Lathu orders all weapons be fired and is surprised at the firepower his ship has for a science vessel. It destroys 5 ships easily. A new phaser cannon using illegal Tholian Triolic crystals fires through the hulls of enemy ships without damaging the vessel but killing the crew with fatal radiation targeted at the Jem’Hadar species.

Lathu is appalled that they have biogenic weapons onboard. The ship is also equipped with ablative armour on vulnerable parts of the ship. The wormhole begins to destabilise as the Quantum is crippled by the Jem’Hadar. Lathu beams most of the Quantum’s and other crippled ship’s crew onboard, and then the Swiftwind is dragged into the wormhole unable to escape the gravity. The nearby planet explodes from the graviton waves. 180 the Dominion ships have been destroyed. All that remains of the rogue Federation fleet is the Quantum. It is doomed as the remaining Dominion ships close in when Defiant decloaks and takes out the rest leaving one crippled Jem’Hadar ship. Sisko beams the remaining Quantum's crew onboard. One of it’s officers informs Sisko of the technology onboard and suggests they destroy, but the Dominion tractor it away.

The admiral demands Sisko follow and destroy it as 20 more Jem’Hadar ships approach but Sisko refuses as they have to close the wormhole before the graviton waves destroy more inhabited planets. Defiant uses its deflector to seal the wormhole which causes a huge shock wave that destroys the region of subspace behind them. The devastation to the area is similar to the effects Omega particles can have; no ships will be able to travel at warp in the region of space again- which has effectively stranded the Quantum and the oncoming Jem’Hadar armada. Defiant then re-enters the other wormhole to DS9 where an angry Sisko demands answers from the Admiral.

The Admiral tells Sisko to back off, that his sensor logs will show no evidence of the Quantum. Odo confronts him with evidence of arms deals. With no way to get out of it the admiral suddenly changes form and attacks the 2 officers. He laughs at them and says that their new fleet is destroyed and the Dominion has captured the new technology to open a new wormhole and destroy planets. Section31’s plans to stop the Dominion in the alpha quadrant, by using wormhole weapons to destroy solar systems in the home territory has failed. Then he beams off the ship with no trace. Sisko realises the changeling had manipulated them all along just like the Tal Shiar/Obsidian Order fleet that was wiped out 3 years ago.

The Swiftwind enters an uncharted region of space. They don't recognise it as the milky way. Lathu is mortified that he's stuck with this crew who don't seem to have a moral compass. They took on many survivors from other ships and are overstretched beyond capacity with 1600 crew on a ship with quarters for 260. He demands that the crew follow Starfleet protocols and disregard the admiral's orders to accomplish their mission at all costs. Nothing is more important than duty to the truth. Another ship approaches. They do not answer hails. They are only able to communicate telepathically through the original ship’s captain Phwanna, a Betazoid and Lathu’s ex partner. She has severe head injuries.

The D'rilmogyn are barely insectisoid energy beings that are curious about the Starfleet ship. They speak to Lathu and inform him he is in another galaxy and are pleased to learn that some of his crew are human- They have heard of humans before. They detect a shockwave approaching through the wormhole and invite the Swiftwind to their planet to take sanctuary.

The Jem’Hadar board the Quantum and activate its EMH. The Vorta changes his programming and is given access to his mission. He realises it will take many years to reach the Dominion at sublight now that subspace has been destroyed so he orders the Jem’Hadar to reopen the wormhole which hadn't completely collapsed. They go through the wormhole and just make it out the other end before another shockwave collapses it, damaging the Quantum.

The D'rimolgyn homeworld is a rich world with technology and living well beyond its natural resources. They explain they are rewarded for their service to their masters but won't say any more.

The Quantum is adrift when a nearby ship offers assistance. The Jem'Hadar kill the crew and strip the ship to repair theirs. They then set a course to the nearest populated planet.

The D'rilmogyn have been in contact with their masters and they have offered to meet the Federation crew and see if they can assist in helping them return home.

When they meet the Swiftwind crew, they reveal an ancient prophecy which fortold of the Starfleet crew’s arrival. And that they will become the saviours of their race. The Ki’kesh take them aboard their ship. They are an ugly race of mutant humanoids disfigured and quite old. Lathu’s crew offer to help some who appear to have injuries. Their assistance is refused, and are informed that a genetic condition in them caused by deep space travel prevents treatment. They are nomads since their planet was destroyed millenia ago in a war with a brutal savage race now extinct.

Dr Shorfule, explores the Ki’Kesh ship and finds a woman who has fallen over. She is terrified of him and he beams her aboard the Swiftwind. She falls unconscious and he scans her and discovers shes human with several genetic sequences missing by mutation. These have caused severe abnormalities in the body. He also notes that there is a fresh wound on her neck and tissue scarring inside that he doesn't know the cause of. And many scars over the rest of her body caused by years of abuse. The woman wakes up and cowers away. She is mentally challenged. The doctor informs Lathu who says he has also found similar people on the Ki’Kesh ship. Shorfule suggests getting them to sickbay for treatment. Lathu agrees but says he will speak to their leaders first.

Captain Phwanna telepathically calms the woman down. She finds out the girl is a slave for the Ki’Kesh. She talks to the doctor and senses he isn’t himself. Someone else has taken over his body. She attempts to overpower the doc but he sends her flying across the room.

Lathu confronts the leader Shwaalshwiel. He admits that they do have some members of their society that are bred for domestic service. Lathu explains the prime directive to Shwaalshweil. But says that he is going to help them, because their genetic code has been altered and therefore it’s not interferring in their natural evolution. Shwaalsheil attacks the captain with superior strength and almost kills him. Thanks to his Suliban genetic modifications he slides out the way and escapes.

He contacts the doctor and tells him to prepare sickbay for the slaves to be treated. The doctor says its not necessary, that they are healthy. Lathu is concerned about this backstep and thinks something has happened to the Doc. He beams back on Swiftwind and finds the Doctor has taken over the bridge and is accessing information on the quantum matrix chamber. He points a phaser at the doc and tells him to stop away or he'll shoot.

The doc then laughs and says that this body has been taken over and if he shoots he'll murder his crewman. Lathu is confused. Sickbay informs him captain Phwanna is dying and that they have scans of the slave showing she had a parasite inside her like one found in 2364 in starfleet command personnel. Lathu says that he'll kill the doctor if necessary to stop their infestation. The doc says hes bluffing and to step aside as he downloads schematics the Quantum matrix chamber. The Federation really is their saviour, they have found a way to get back to the Federation via the Swiftwind.

The decaying and genetically flawed bodies they possess are dying and soon there will be no hosts left. Their race will die with them. They need new hosts. And the power of the Federation is seductive. 8 years ago they received a homing beacon from the milkyway with instructions that the galaxy was perfect for conquest. A fleet of ships has already begun the journey and they will reach the milkyway in 43 years. More ships are being built for intergalactic travel but enemies of the Ki’Kesh have attacked them sporadically; slowing their efforts.

Shorfule amazingly splits into a second version of himself and orders Lathu to fire. Lathu fires at the doctor killing the parasite. The doctor can astral project an avatar of himself and used his subconscious to communicate. He was aware of these creatures already and knew a phaser would disable one.

He beams all the crew from the Ki’Kesh ship and then attempts to flee. The Ki’Kesh ship attacks them and nearly destroys the Swiftwind.
Engineering uses the quantum matrix to increase power to sheilds and weapons and damages the Ki’Kesh ship. Section31 operatives use the illegal phasers to target the Ki’Kesh bridge crew. Swiftwind flees in the direction the Quantum has gone.

Phwanna is at the brink of death when Shorfule ties her consciousness into the computer while placing her body in statsis at Lathu’s insistence. This causes the computer to crash. All systems go offline. When they come back on the computer speaks in Phwanna’s voice. She is an embittered woman due to tragic circumstances between her lost love and won’t be reasonable. She says she’s in command....

And the series continues...

I see a developing storyline of the computer having to be outsmarted and romanced by Lathu for a comedy element. The computer/Phwanna become a main character. A tug of war of over command is ever present between her and Lathu and she is pissed off she can’t physically interact or go on away missions. If the crew attempt to remove her from the ship it will auto destruct.

Swiftwind being hunted for crimes that the Quantum’s Dominion crew committed...mistaken identity kind of thing...
There’s a few decent Feds amongst a lot of bad apples. Lathu doesn’t know who to trust. He still thinks a dominion spy is onboard that sent a message to the Dominion. And maybe there still is.

The Jem’Hadar need ketracel white to survive and are going to suffer withdrawal symptoms and they have also lost their gods. The Jem'Hadar’s withdrawals are the reason for them raising so much havoc in the new galaxy and the Swiftwind gets blamed, making them fugitives on the run.

Eventually the Ki’Kesh find and possess the Jem’Hadar keeping them alive without needing their drugs. At first the Feds aren't aware the Quantum is in this galaxy. When they find out they realise they have to meet up so they can use the dual deflector technology to open a wormhole back home but they don't know the Ki’Kesh have taken over the Jem’Hadar.

The crew learn that travelling through the Quantum Matrix generated wormhole caused them all to be affected by an unknown type of radiation. The same radiation that caused mutations in the Ki’Kesh slaves. It is impossible for them to return by a QM wormhole as a second dose will be lethal.

The Swiftwind eventually travels to a part of space where the stars seems to disappear. Eventually they discover a battle damaged dyson sphere identical to the one in Relics . There is a perfect paradise like class m planet in orbit of the sun inside the sphere. The entire race has mysteriously disappeared leaving an intact city.

The weary crew are spilt into 2 camps. 1 wants to settle on the planet, the other wants to fight the Ki’Kesh and get their kidnapped crew back and free the other humanoid slaves. Lathu agrees for those crew to leave and set up a base on the planet. They explore the ruins and discover there was a war between these aliens and another aggressive species. They persecuted the Dyson sphere aliens for their technology. Ultimately the Dyson sphere aliens used a weapon of mass destruction harnessing the endless supply of power from the sun and destroyed the attacking fleet whom were the Ki’Kesh. This almost destroyed the Ki’Kesh civilisation; only a nest of them survived. Over millenia their numbers grew and they resorted to taking hosts to infiltrate alien governments to attain power and technology to rebuild their society. They are at a point now where they have a fleet of ships ready and they have had designs on the Federation for some time. It has only been a matter of finding a way to travel across the galaxies.

(Unknown to the Swiftwind- the war happened 2000 years in the future -when the Star weapon was used it created a time shift which pulled the Dysphon sphere builders, planet, star and the Ki’Kesh backwards in time 10,000s years. In that time the Ki’Kesh were almost wiped out. The survivors discovered that the Dyson sphere builders were descendants of the Swiftwind crew who set up home on the planet and over millenia built a dyson sphere and formed a new Federation fleet to protect them.

The star weapon used to wipe out the entire Ki’Kesh fleet created a time voretx sending the sphere into the past. The Ki’Kesh couldn’t defeat the Renaissance Federation and travelled to the Milkyway in generational sleeper ships. They encountered radiation that killed all but a few as they they cross the energy barrier between galaxies. Eventually they reached the alpha quadrant and set up an outpost. Then took over starfleet officers before Picard uncovered the conspiracy and destroyed the mother creature. Before doing so the queen sent a signal to an outpost with the coordinates for this rich host filled galaxy along with the prophecy that one day they could capture the Swiftwind and use it to get to the Alpha quadrant. 8 years later that signal was intercepted by the Ki’Kesh survivors who now waited for the Swiftwind’s arrival

I hope this last bit of the time twist made sense. My head is hurting reading it back lol.

Well I chose 40 ships because they are a secret war fleet that were meant to use wormholes to destroy planets. Enough of this destruction plus cloaked ships attacking dominion in the gamma quadrant would send a message to the Founders in the alpha quadrant and help end the war sooner in Section31s twisted logic.

Aside from numbers what else would you change?

I must say, you have planned this out well, and you seem to be keen to persue it. I like the idea.
At first, I did not like to see the dominion again. I considered them dated, used ideas. But, I read on and by about 1/2 of the way, overall, I enjoyed it.
I love the idea of having the.. selfish (is that the word to use?) crew at the beginning. Uninterested, quite unlike the other ships in ST, and just want to get it over with. I also liked the idea of having the first officers' loved one in the Delta Quadrant. Being a die-hard VOY fan, I liked the fact you toyed with the idea of the USS Quantum being around during the VOY/DS9 time.
The wormhole!! And woo, going to save Voyager! I like this mission. But, they are mislead into dominion territory. Wow, I wonder what I'd do.
Lathu is certainly an interesting character. In ST, usually, for bravery and successful attempts to save captains/loved ones they are awarded, even if that means disobeying orders. It is usually overlooked. Hmm. I am guessing that he did not succeed?
I have another 1/2 to finish later. I just wanted to post my opinions early! :)

Thanks Di Mar. I Hope you enjoy the second part.

This is the cast and a biog for them. Not all are fleshed out yet.

CAPTAIN- Lathu- A Suliban male 33 years old. He's deeply ashamed of his family history. His ancestors were on he opposing side of the temporal cold war. This is why he joined Starfleet to make up for past mistakes. He feels the shame as if it were himself who committed the acts.

Not much is known about his race. His home planet was destroyed centuries before and records of their history have been lost or altered through timeline manipulation so that nothing is certain. He feels displaced in time and space and especially amongst his own race of a few hundred known to be alive. He graduated the Academy top of his class, despite being refused admission initally due to his genetic engineering. An appeal ruled that the enhancements were hereditory even though his ancestors had artificially implanted them into themselves. He swore an oath not to use them to give him an advantage over his peers whilst training in the academy.

He served on the USS Repulse for 3 years making grade of Lt.Commander. He was then hand picked to be first officer on the USS Calypso making rank of commander patrolling the Badlands. He fell in love with the Captain Phwanaa and they began a relationship which was kept in secret at Phwanaa’'s request. They had fiery, often bumpy times but maintained an excellent discrete professional relationship. Lathu came to a point in his life where he wanted to out their relationship. Phwanaa refused as she didn't want her crew to change their behaviour around either of them.

Then there is an incident when Internal Affairs “question” Phwanaa. Section31 actually psychologically torture her in a test to see if she’s worthy of joining them. Starfleet later do not recognise the existence of Section31. She becomes obsessed with them and it outs a strain on her relationship. Soon after this she becomes quite bitter and jaded. This prompted Lathu to resign. Phwanaa refused to accept his resignation and ended the relationship. A very distraught Lathu takes a shuttle to give himself some time to think.
Phwanaa feared he was suicidal and takes the Calypso after him but they were attacked by Maqui ships. The Calypso was damaged. Lathu returned upon hearing the distress calls. It was his surprise attack that stopped the Maqui. A cat and mouse game ensued with with Maqui ships. There is a chance to find the Maquis base but Phwanna was badly injured in the attack and needs specialist treatment at a Starbase medical faiclity or she will die. Lathu takes the ship to Federation space against explicit orders to remain and hunt the Maquis. . A cardassion colony was destroyed by the Maqui after Lathu left the area under radio silence.

At starbase 267 Lathu was court marshalled for insubordination and demoted to Lt. junior grade. He was however commended for his battle strategy and for saving the Calypso. His motivation to return to a Federation haven without alerting Starfleet to the Maquis threat was directly linked to the preventable destruction of the Cardassian colony. He was informed that he would never be eligible for command. Phwanaa was also demoted to Lt for hiding the relationship which was seen as bad command decision and prohibited from commanding again. She became depressed at the ordeal of Section31, loss of her command and resentment of Lathu whom she blamed and ended all contact with him. She was posted to a starbase.

Lathu was unable to find a position on a ship and eventually positioned on deep space nine to help oversee the new weapons upgrades. He liked the post away from the usual starfleet routine and came to find some comfort for nearly 3 years until he received orders from admiral Dougherty to take a runabout to the Lilal system.

Lathu despises Section31 operatives and hunts them down and puts them in the brig 1 by 1:bolian:

COMPUTER/PHWANAA Phwanaa Qollebra. Betazoid female 42 years old. Graduated Betazed University with degree in exo-psychology and served in diplomatic core for Betazed for 3 years before deciding to join Starfleet. Graduated 2nd place in her class and was posted to USS Andromeda as counsellor. Despite her degree she protested this posting. Her determination led her to become head of training for first contact. She found it difficult to be taken seriously as a command candidate and complained to Starfleet that the workplace was prejudiced against Betazoids. After a year long investigation it was agreed that Betazoids should be allowed same opportuinties to enter command track. She was given an advanced training program that she sailed through and became a captain at 31 years old. She commanded the USS Everest and the USS Caspian before her last command of the USS Calypso.

After being demoted to Lt she was posted on a starbase as strategic operations officer - given the job of monitoring hostile alien fleet activity where she learned quite a lot of stuff about military operations eventually uncovering a secret project for a quantum class starship. Her investigation led her to Dougherty who told her about the new ship and cloak and offered her a job as Captain of the Quantum if she kept the details secret. Discovering Section31 again was traumatic and she became quite disturbed in her mind and planned to bring down the organisation.:(

1ST OFFICER Karl Wishbourne,Section31 agent who is borderline xenophobic. He is very intelligent and cunning but sometimes blinded by his irrational fear of the unknown. He’s a control freak and is is planning to get the support of his agents to seize control of the Swiftwind.:wtf:

ENGINEER- A pair of Bynars. One of them dies in the Dominion attack. Herm ends up becoming a security officer. (Haha a pint pot sized bynar security guard- can you picture it?)

TACTICAL/SECURITY Miradorn Twins. Ko-Ral and Lo-Ral. One of them dies and the surviving one forms a symbiotic relationship via a Vulcan mind meld with the surviving Bynar:rolleyes:

DOCTOR Commander Shorfule, a 4 legged 2 armed humanoid with glowing eyes. He can astral project himself into 2 places at once and empirically observe both locations. The projected duplicate has no physical form. He is extremely friendly and easy to talk to. He was originally ok with serving on a secret ship to aide the Federation. He quickly realised that it was a mistake but wasn't allowed to leave the ship alive.:alienblush:

HELM OFFICER Lt jnr grade Frayda -Benzite female 19 years old. First position since leaving Admiral Doughery's attache office. Nervous but brilliant mathametician and astrogator. She has conflicting ideas with Valenna about science.:bolian:

SCIENCE OFFICER Kwinpulaa- an Allasomorph mercenary recrutied by Section31 to spy on the Dominion. Kwinpluaa is a non commissioned officer and attended a 6 month bumper strategic tactical training course with Ro Laren.

DEFLECTOR SPECIALIST Valenna 100 year old Vulcan female, Maquis sympathiser who was placed on a watch list by Starfleet internal Affairs. No direct links to the Maquis were proven. She is a brilliant scientist who thinks outside the box. She is intolerant of humans who seem to be obsessed with Earth and human values above all others.

She has a very dry sense of humour and laughs a lot whilst maintaining an icy cold exterior most of the time. She is friends with Wishbourne who she considers the only human she can tolerate for long periods of time.:guffaw:

OPERATIONS OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Adrian Paxman. 28 year old handsome rugged male. He recently requested joining the Swiftwind after discovering the cloaking device he built was to be part of her. He had no qualms with the mission and the conflict of federation charter. He lost all his family in a Dominion attack on their colony evacuation.:wtf:

ENGINEERING ASSISTANT P’rin, Ferengi arms dealer. She is cunning and sly with a charming personality. She has led a secret life manipulating men with her beauty to create a wealth. She has resented the sexist regime of her civilisation and was a suffragette championing the female right movement. She began purchasing and using weapons for terrorist activity. She was caught but escaped from prison. She recently hooked up with Gaila- Quark’s cousin to provide a new illegal weapon to Dougherty. She is the best person equipped to handle the alien technology that powers the Quantum Matrix Extractor, and also the only one who knows the origins of where it was stolen from. (The aliens she "acquired" it from will be coming back for it and they are mightily pissed off):borg:

As I understand the events of the episode Stormfront, there's absolutely no way Captain Lathu could know about that aspect of his family's history. Danial's told Archer that history was put right, the TCW basically never happen and therefor no one could have any memories of it.

It's been a long time since I saw that. I should have researched it better but ENT is the only series I don't own. So many things were a mess with ENT and canon anyway that who is to say Daniels was 100% sure the timeline had been restored accurately? If it has been restored then first contact with Klingons in Broken Bow would most likely not have occured. It would have been disastrous like McCoy once mentioned. So I theorise that the timeline wasn't fully restored and there was a way for stories (innacurate and with no evidence) to be passed down along the generations in the Suliban civilisation.

Completely wrong. The Sphere builders and Federation never went to war in the future because the spheres were defeated in Archers time. The Suliban that were genetically engineered by 'Future Guy' still got genetically engineered because there was no connection between them and the Sphere builders.
The Temporal Cold War and the war against the Sphere builders were two different things altogether and had no connection and were completely separate story archs.

The destruction and defeat of the sphere builders did nothing to the Suliban or to Future Guy.

The whole TCW was an atrocious mess. the writers just made shit up and since they never even remotely explained the rules, they figured they could get away with anything. I wouldn't waste time trying to rationalize it, or write anything based on it, unless your goal is to rewrite the whole mess into something worthwhile, in which case there are no rules or elements worth salvaging so just go hog wild.

I don't intend to delve into the past and explain anything of the TCW. I will keep all of Lathu's ancestry vague. Considering we never saw or heard of a Suliban in TNG era it is reasonable to assume that they became an insignificant species. This fits in perfectly with my ideas. I decided to make the Captain an alien because we have nearly an all Human captain fleet. I find that idea bizarre and unrealistic. Also the Suliban were enemies which will provide conflict at some point. Furthermore the Suliban had interesting genetic enhancements which will be great for moving a story along.

OK so it is 2:06 am on Jan 12, 2011. I can't sleep because you have captured my interest in the USS Swiftwind Quantum Class StarShip and its corresponding story. Very Nicely Done! Great Start! I would watch this show. I would love to see many more images of the ship and learn more about its ship systems.

What is the Crew Complement? How many Crewmen will the Swiftwind hold?

Many thanks

It's an okay idea - just relies too heavily on other series that have come before it IMO - doesn't seem to bring much new to the table. And I personally think the captains, as the main character, should always be human.

I think you misunderstood the premise. Yes it uses elements of other series to tie it into Trek and launch the pilot. Both TNG, DS9 and Voyager used actors from previous series in the pilots. Fairly quickly in the series the Jem Hadar will be possessed by the neural parasites- so it won't be another Jem Hadar series- it will be an insidious race in genetically superior able bodies.

All the story takes place in the new galaxy with no way to contact the Federation- ever- I thought that was a weak link in Voyager and also in Stargate universe with the touchstones.

As for the captain having to be human- who knows if this right or wrong. We haven't seen it yet as an alien captain as a lead on a hero ship. To be honest I'm fed up of the whole premise of the federation is a huge interstellar community- yet it's predominantly human as if humans outnumber the other members. I think it would be more interesting to see a human crew take orders from an alien captain. And although Lathu is Suliban - as explained in the character bios- he uses his genetic enhancements to make him appear human. Something he'll change throughout the series.

I this adds something very different to tradiotional Treks. And the franchise is so dead as a TV medium right now- we need new ideas to get it back on track. I'm not proposing this would be a good new series. I think the TNG era of trek has been done to death. The new movie proved that.

Thanks for reading this

Hi Baldwind,

I'm pleased you liked some of the stuff in this premise. The crew compliment is 240, however in the series they will have about 1,600 crew from other quantum class ships were destroyed by the Dominion ambush.

I have used flash CS4/5 to create images and animated LCARS. A 3D modeller (T E Williams) made a google sketchup model of the ship that I use to create accurate plans. Axeman rendered additional textures and a short animation.
Colin Eddie created a 3D model of the Swiftwind bridge that I used to created a drawing of it.

And thank you for taking criticism in stride. A rarity on the Internet these days. Honestly, I'm never quite sure how to respond to some of these because it's obviously something you've poured no small amount of effort into, but it's also obviously never going to be picked up and turned into a show. So, do you give criticism based on the idea of this being a new show despite the fact it never will be, or approach it as a fan project that may see some short stories on the Internet? What would you prefer?

You're welcome. Yes I don't get the negativity from some people regarding their idea. It's the internet after all and anyone can voice their opinions - so you are asking for it be dissected. I am in discussions with a production company who are looking to expand their portfolio with producing a 2D animation with CGI fx fan film

I've been thinking more about this story - I am developing it for a TOS style animation.

I think it would be interesting to keep an element of the milkyway galaxy events in the stories, so I plan to do back stories to characters in each episode to show how they became involved with the section31 plan.

Also I had another inspiration. A secret starfleet anti section31 group sabotaged the deflectors to strand the section31 manned fleet in another galaxy away from the affairs of starfleet. With this in mind I plan to call the show Star Trek: Exhile

I kind of like it but I'd make a lot of changes. My first qualm would be the number of Quantum class ships.

There were 62 vessels of the Los Angeles class attack submarines. Of which 43 are still in service. I never understood the very small size of Starfleet or that ship classes have or should have only a few or several members.

Interesting point. I never thought of it that way before, although I always assumed there had to be a lot more ships than suggested or seen- to cover space and serve the needs of the federation- never mind the galaxy exploring ships.
