My husband, my friend and I haven't read the graphic novels, so we are watching the show on its own merit. We are really enjoying it. Yes, the pacing is a little slow, but the characters are interesting enough to keep us going. We can see that everyone is going to have a complex backstory that we can't wait to see.

I love Cassidy and Tulip, and I like the fact that I actually don't like Jesse.

I'm also looking forward to finding out how "The Cowboy" figures into the storyline.

But...I am not happy about Brewster!! Not happy at all. :(

So was Quincannon serving the God of Meat when Jesse used the Voice on him? Watching with captions during Quincannon's speech revealed some gems that I don't think we're otherwise audible.

I'm assuming Cassidy that needed that poor dog. Jesse needed to use that extinguisher sooner.

Tulip gave that poor dog a nice day before he went to his doom. She cares about the innocents, I think. I don't read the comics so it's all new to me and I'm enjoying it. Can't wait to find out what's happening with Eugene and I couldn't care less about the cowboy character so far.

My main problem with the show is that I find myself saying to the screen "just use the Voice" about a dozen times each episode, because Jesse using the Voice of God would easily solve about 90-95% of all of his problems and he so seldom uses it.

It isn't the voice of God. It comes from Genesis, the combination of heavenly angel and demon.
So did Donny shoot himself or did he miss? How was he immune to the Voice? What are the Voice rules?

He shot off a round in a small enclosed space his head was in. He burst his eardrums so he couldn't hear the voice.
The rules are simple. You do as the voice tells you. It just depends on how you personally interpret it. Give her your heart.... Serve God (Meat God). Eugene literally disappearing does NOT fit the rules though.

This has turned into an utter mess. I find it's tonal shifts to be without coherence or merit and Jesse to be overly dull. I can see exactly where they are going with him, so at the beginning of S2 he is where he was in Issue 1 of the comics. I'm just not convinced that we needed 10 episodes to get there.

I'll watch out the season, just to see the Angels "Plan B" and to (hopefully) see Jesse's revelation. But S2 will have a great deal of work to structure this show into something truly dynamic, like the pilot gave.

Hugo - will wait the two weeks and watch the final two episodes back to back

I knew something bad was going to happen to poor Brewster once Tulip took him home.:(
Danny blowing out his eardrums was a pretty smart way to get around The Voice. At first I was confused about why he had apparently killed himself, but then once he showed up with his ears bleeding I got it.
The explanation for Quincannon's behavior was interesting.
The Angels actually getting Genesis out of Jessie and then it going right back in was surprising.

Don't read this if you haven't read the comic massive spoilers:
Maybe I skimmed over it, but when Allfather D'Aronique told Jesse they were related through Gran'ma, did that mean that Jesse is somehow distantly descended from Christ? That would explain Genesis' interest in his body. But then again they only let the Christ kids breed with each other so I guess that's not possible. Too bad that would have been a good explanation.[/spoilers]

Genesis successfully bonded with Jesse purely because, just like Genesis itself, he's every bit as much a good man as he is a bad guy. That's why the other preachers Genesis tried on first "failed."

Thanks HR. I wasn't paying attention at that point. Donny isn't the sharpest tack on the corkboard, but he's smarter than I thought. This also indicates a way for people to deal with Jesse's secret weapon, like Odysseus and the Sirens.

Well, that's one way to get Miles to take the hint.

Wow, I can't believe Emily actually fed Miles to Cassidy like that.
I figured out what was going on with The Cowboy once things started repeating themselves.

So you can take a bus down the Highway to Hell. But you can't take any carry ons.
That town doesn't have any good people, does it? It isn't worth saving, Jesse. But I'm a little impressed with Emily. She took care of a long standing problem with Miles, but she lost a dependable babysitter. The season finale looks good.

I'm loving this show so much.

Not sure how I feel about he who people are calling The Cowboy, though. Given who he obviously is for those familiar with the comics, it just seems a little odd the way the story is going.

I am, however, eager to see what Jesse does with the phone next week. I mean, it's clear what he intends to do with it, but again considering what we know from the comics, it'll be... interesting to see what comes of it.

I found the repetition of the Saint scenes to be immensely annoying. It was like they decided to run a 5 minute clip show in the middle of the episode. Fast forward, dude. Also.... no Devil? Disappointment.

I hope the season finale really knocks it out of the park and sets us onto the path of the comic.

The part with The Saint of Killers repeating over and over went on WAY too long.

I knew Emily was going to send Miles to Cassidy as soon as he showed up; still, that seemed like a damn harsh thing to do--not really in her character. But, on the other hand, she just found out that vampires are real, so she was probably "freaking out"as Tulip said. She probably saw it as the only way to get rid of him.

I really like the friendship between Preacher and Cassidy; they seem to be the only people they have in which to confide.

I was surprised by that as well; what exactly did the Mayor do to deserve death? Being in bed with Quincannon?

He was telling her he was going to spend the night and he was acting as if he was going to be calling the shots from now on. He's Quincannon's lackey and smarmy in his own right. He was a problem that was escalating.

But didn't he babysit her kids without getting anything in return all season?

Yes, but to be fair, she did tell him to his face that he wouldn't be getting any, so she made that pretty clear. If he suddenly started to demand things from her, she would've seen that as a threat. On the other hand, she strikes me as a strong-willed person (she pretty much ran the church), so I don't think they made it clear enough WHY she thought Miles should be fed to Cassidy. She didn't seem particularly fond of Cassidy, either. Could it be she also felt something for Tulip's "friendship" and did it, perhaps in some small part, for her? Hard to say.

Maybe they'll explain it further later on.
