Funny enough, widen that neck shape and make it shorter and THAT'S how the neck appears on the movie's Enterprise-A.
The original KT Enterprise looked fine from the side. The Beyond refit she got...not so much. The Enterprise-A as seen in that artwork is beautiful from certain angles, but an ugly duckling from others. I'm really glad that the CGI team tossed out the nacelle pylons and neck that Hargreaves gave them.Designers in the Kelvin timeline cant seem to get the Enterprise right from the side view. They insist on hanging the nacelles off their front end. It makes no design sense at all. It does look good from other perspectives though. Its a "very good but not quite right" in my opinion.
Compared to the Fanklin though, "The Enterprise A is a disaster''. Its hard to imagine they come from the same designer.

I came up with a treksplanation I can live with for now - the strut connecting so far forward allows the power conduits to dump directly into the bussards then work backwards along the nacelle.

Here is Shaw's take on the 1964 plans. Almost the same attachment (see aft view)

I still cringe at how badly the original First Contact E model by Playmates was thanks to rushing![]()
It's not rounder

It's just wrong especially the nacelles and impulse

And even then, there are mistakes, like the too thick shuttlebay "floor" and wrong hanger doors on Playmates' 2009 Enterprise.Well, that was the case in the olde days. Today toy companies can get detailed CG models directly from the FX department.
I wish the Insurrection one didn't have that stupid peghole for the Captain's Yacht though.
