*Potential Spoilers* What will the Alternate Enterprise-A look like

Funny enough, widen that neck shape and make it shorter and THAT'S how the neck appears on the movie's Enterprise-A.
Designers in the Kelvin timeline cant seem to get the Enterprise right from the side view. They insist on hanging the nacelles off their front end. It makes no design sense at all. It does look good from other perspectives though. Its a "very good but not quite right" in my opinion.

Compared to the Fanklin though, "The Enterprise A is a disaster''. Its hard to imagine they come from the same designer.
The original KT Enterprise looked fine from the side. The Beyond refit she got...not so much. The Enterprise-A as seen in that artwork is beautiful from certain angles, but an ugly duckling from others. I'm really glad that the CGI team tossed out the nacelle pylons and neck that Hargreaves gave them.

I came up with a treksplanation I can live with for now - the strut connecting so far forward allows the power conduits to dump directly into the bussards then work backwards along the nacelle.

I cannot say why they think it more ascetically pleasing as the mid-mount design, but it may be the reasoning behind the change. Damn engineers, they love to change things.

.

I'm thinking it is to induce a plasma vortex along the length of the nacelle.
Here is Shaw's take on the 1964 plans. Almost the same attachment (see aft view)

Cool links publiusr.......thank you.

As for the new Ent-A, I think we should all wait judgement until clear pics of the "A" come out.

They definitely made changes from the concept art and I have a good feeling most will like the final product.

I'm hoping we get the refit, but not the A. I still think there will be further tweaks to perfect the model before the next film and I'd hate for them to rush something that won't match up with ST4, then have to do an ST4 model.

I still cringe at how badly the original First Contact E model by Playmates was thanks to rushing :(

We have two new Enterprises in Beyond and I hope we get replicas/models/toys from both of them. If we get a fourth JJprise in ST4 (or ST:XIV if you prefer) then we should get new replicas/models/toys from that too. If you think that's too much then buy only the ones you like.

I am sorry, I probably misunderstood something - but if your point was that early designs of the Enterprise featured very forward strut connection points, they appear to be in very near normal position in those images.

Aside from the more obvious differences, is the saucer more round? From some of the pictures I saw from the filming model in 1996, it looked like it could've been round and I thought the AMT model got it wrong.

It seemed to me as if they got one or two pictures of the Enterprise-E and filled in the rest with Voyager. What's up with that thick saucer rim??

That's because Playmates went off of an earlier design from John Eaves, which had different details from the final model. Eaves' almost-final blueprint is available in the Star Trek: First Contact Sketchbook.

I had both of them. I still have the Insurrection version, and the Phoenix.

I wish the Insurrection one didn't have that stupid peghole for the Captain's Yacht though.

That was a real thing?! I thought it was just a graphic on the box! :(

I never bothered with that one as - at the time - it cost too much with retailers nearby dropping lines and the best option being mail order. I'm sure it wouldn't annoy me back then. It'd really annoy me now :p
