Positive things to come out of the current Pandemic

A lot of bad things has come out of the pandemic and it is shown up a lot of underlying issues in wider society. I don't think it is good thing to dwell on them as they are things outside of everybodys control. These things can be dealt with when things settle down. At the moment I just want to focus on the positive things.

A positive thing that has happened to me is that I get Star Trek and now I am a fan. The other thing that has come out of it is that I have started lifestyle changes which I probably should have dealt with years ago.

While I do think I am quite a fit individual, I haven't been leading a particularly healthy lifestyle. The biggest one is the late nights. Now I enjoy getting to my bed early and getting more sleep. The other thing is that the Scottish stereotype of eating everything deep fried is more truer than I had admitted. I eat healthily during the week but the weekend are my downfall where I eat rubbish. I used to love the fried breakfasts and fried takeaways like fish suppers but now I have given them up. I had recently tried a fish supper and it was rotten. The fried breakfasts have gone as well. Lastly, I drank too much coffee and now I have caught that done to the occasional cup which I enjoy more.

When things get back to a bit of normality, I can't see myself going back to my unhealthy ways.

Has anybody else had any similar experiences where for instance lifestyles changes have been made?

I've gotten to be more a popular professor with my students because I'm being very lenient regarding late assignments during the pandemic. Which makes me believe that some professors are still grading harshly, unfortunately. I've also been forced to make my classes online-friendly, not at all a bad thing in this day and age.

Well - it MAY have ensured that Herr Drumpf didn't get another 4 years to destroy the world so, that's a good thing!

I was going to say Cheeky for souring the topic with politics but across the pond here, there is a 'night of the long knives' of Brexiteers in the the UK government which seemed to coincidentally happened after the election result. It looks the possibility of a no deal Brexit at the end of the year is going down by the minute.

President Elect Biden.

That's really about it. My lifestyle's been less healthy. All my races got canceled and I've been exercising less and drinking more. Some days don't get any human contact and it makes it miserable.

But, Biden won, that's a good thing.

I guess with 'BOJO' looking less safe - less supported by the US, they can push for a proper deal? That would be the proper way to go anyway but..?

Great that it's given you motivation and I did the same a few years ago as I was approaching 40 and realised I did zero exercise and wasn't eating healthy foods while watching old footage of me at collage. It's amazing what a few weeks of brisk walking every day can do and soon I was jogging a few miles a day. Eating healthy foods, avoiding anything high in fat and soon the weight was falling off. I did Tough Mudder South West 2016 which was one of the best days of my life and had lost over two stone in a few months and never felt better. It helped to spur me on to move house because a few months earlier and I just wouldn't have had the energy.

There are a lot of Zoom reunions online over the last few months from TV shows like Voyager which have been a nice distraction but the most positive aspect is that after almost 10 years I'm moving back to my hometown where my folks and old friends are. It's been talked about for years but within three weeks it will be done. Back in the Homestead.

congratulations! (And welcome to the board! :) )
I'm using the semi-lockdown to finally get on with all my UFOs (unfinished objects). So far I made a carpet from old jeans, crocheted a warm stole, knitted a cardigan and made warm winter covers for my vulnerable plants. Next in line are winter pyjamas, 2 scarves, a sweater and 6 half-finished patchwork projects. And mending a few woolen socks and gloves the d***ed moths have nibbled on during the summer.
And I listened to all Paul Temple radio mysteries =) Proceeding to Lord Peter Whimsey next. It's lovely to have time.

We have done a lot of things in our house and also with our yard. We still have a long way to go, but we are doing it. And also I came up with two walks (with masks and a couple of people) to go to all our free libraries around town. Since all the other walks we were going to do were canceled. Also my husband has learned how to do two different D&D groups of friends on the computer with zoom. For my mom's birthday since she lives in an old folks home. We can't see her just thru a window so again with a few people wearing masks and 6 ft apart. We sang "I wanna Hold Your Hand" and Surfn' USA, and Happy Birthday to my mom. Something I would not have thought of before to do. I have also started to read to my mom, since she does not have a computer or cell phone, I call her and I read to her. Also since we can't do our Christmas baking together I taught her how to use the speaker on her phone so we can talk to each other while I bake and home and she is there doing hers. So almost like we are together. I have had to do a lot of thinking and being creative on what to do for her. We are back in stage one again until at least the middle of December. My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th ann. But no party. We have plans and I came up with the idea to do 25th masks. Anyway I am trying to have a little fun with this, if I can.

I already lead a physically fit lifestyle (as I strongly believe that everybody should), but I've gotten even more disciplined in that regard. For a while when state and national parks were closed and we were encouraged to stay within walking distance from home for outdoor recreation and exercise, I would go out nearly every day on ten to fifteen mile walking/jogging sessions. Hey, that's walking distance for me.

I've probably saved money by not driving into work and not going to conventions. Not that I haven't found other ways to spend...

I've done more hiking this year than I've possibly done in my whole life. When you work from home it sharply increases your desire to get out when you can.
