There's also IR reflecting foil that you can apply to the windows. Lets just about all of the light in, but a lot less heat.

Older homes can be fitted with a/c as well. My grandmother's house (built 1947) wasn't fitted with a/c until about 1985. She lives in Southern California too.

Houston, as a city, would not exist without it.
Florida, as state, would not exist without it.

Same for Louisiana. Without AC upwards of ninety percent of that state's population would commit mass suicide on the first day of summer. How people in New Orleans or Cajun Country managed to survive in the years and generations prior to the invention of AC I'll never know. That's a hearty stock of human being down there.

I ask myself that about the Texas population every summer that I'm here. I have come to a different conclusion--that the pre-air conditioning people were not necessarily more hearty but perhaps just not smart enough to move.

All those ranches with the big wagon wheel out front are from the early settlers not smart enough to fix their covered wagon when it broke. They just scratched their heads, looked around and said "Meh. Here's good."

Lovely. :)

There was a gorgeous view of this Moon phase with Venus and Jupiter out to the west of the sky this evening. I only caught a glimpse of it (too late to catch Venus) before the clouds drifted over. Have a look now and see how things are - you might catch Jupiter and the Moon right now.

Hitting 100 as our high point this summer makes it a welcome relief after previous summers. One year I moved house on a day it was 116. That was really insane. If you waved your arms around outside your arms felt like they were burning from the air.

As log as it rains regularly I don't care though.

116? Seriously? During the summer in central Budapest, temperatures up to 140-150 fahrenheit aren't that uncommon. Buildings packed like sardines, cars hoarded on each other and road works with scorching concrete kicks it up a few dozen degrees. The heat has nowhere to go. In the suburbs, we're lucky (unlucky?) if it hits 100-105.

You do realise that 140 Fahrenheit is 60 Celsius, yes?

Yup. Why do you think I avoid Budapest like the plague?

The air temperature is barely 40, but with the traffic, the roadworks and shit, it skyrockets. Keep in mind that this is street level. 20 meters up, its little more than half that.

So Budapest somehow has temperatures higher than the the world record? riiiiggghht.

Mate, seriously. How often do they measure the temperature on street level? They always measure it in the air where its a lot cooler. Its not that big of a stretch if your're standing next to brand new 100 degrees warm asphalt, twenty busses that run 24/7 and put out 400 degrees as exhausts and i dont even want to guess how many cars. Not to mention the fact that the heat has nowhere to go because the buildings are packed so tight.

I think that the discrepancy in temperature is caused by all the Vampires running their human milking farms. Large factories with humans hooked up to machinery like cattle to drain them of their blood but leave enough to keep them just alive. The AC & Heating to keep these places temperature controlled is huge.

I saw those and knew one of them must be Venus, but didn't know what the heck the other bright star was! Which of the two was larger by the way?

Last night I managed to catch the smaller of the two as it was setting along with the crescent moon, gorgeous clear skies we were having!

Cool!

Did you catch that without the use of a tripod, boco? If so, you must have the world's steadiest hands! :D I can only dream of night shots that clear taken free hand!
