Picard film in development

Just remember, anything can change. With no announcement made, we don't know whether this even sees the light of day. Especially given the well-documented ongoing financial woes at Paramount.

While I'm intrigued, I am choosing to put this as out-of-mind as possible until something is said from Kurtzman etc.

Yeah, anyone remember the John Logan Janeway/Seven project?

Oh, if it's ever going to happen, I would love to see a new Star Trek Movie with TNG vibe in it. I didn't like the idea that the current new crew is captained by someone who had no previous connections to Enterprises at all (any of them), but it can be remedied somehow... Perhaps reboot with new TNG cast faithfull to the old stuff in the new timeline, since they have like two of even three cliffhangers about possible transitions to somewhere where maybe something can get restarted in a TNG era... idk, I just want something good to watch, not a political drama or a spooky horror, but a good TNG style movie.

Most of the people with "previous connections to Enterprise" are either dead or retired.

Seven saved the ship. She didn't let Titan fall. If that doesn't make her worthy, I don't know what does.

He did Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.

The man can do spectacle.

He surely can do spectacle. I found Ragnarok a terrible movie, Maybe the worst of the Marvel movies so far. I hate where one storyline was about the genocide of Asgard, and the other storyline was all fun with the humor of Thor on that other planet

Probably has to pull a sword from a stone or marry Jack.

I've merged the Future of Trek thread with the one in the Picard forum...since all we have on this currently is "Picard".

Sir Pat notably gets "confused" interviews these days. I wouldn't take him at his word, to be honest. He may have something mixed up from years ago.

I didn't say Seven is not worthy of the captain's chair. Perhaps I didn't phrase my thought as I wanted to begin with. Please, don't get offended, I like Seven! <3

I want to expand my thoughts to clear them - they took away Titan's name and put Enterprise on the ship that Shaw and many others died to protect as well as the Earth and whole Federation. Titan in my opinion deserves its own bright as a star legacy and for me it could be more fitting if Seven became a Titan's captain, Titan played a vital part in saving the Galaxy, that's why I didn't like the change in it's name for the ship and as a result who is commanding the Enterprise in the end. Titan deserved better than to be erased or merged with the Enterprise's legacy as if it didn't have its own. For me Enterprise is not a label to put on most badass ship, and in my mind there is no connection with Seven as a character and Enterprise as a name and ship. The ship was Titan and the name Enterprise was added to praise another crew's achievement.

Still I wish for a new movie! =)

Hopefully the film takes place during that one-year gap in the finale so they can “borrow” the old girl again for a personal mission. Or she was held in Service during that year because of their heroic actions and is now on a good will tour under Captain Riker, whose dream has come true after all and supports Jean-Luc on his new adventure, who now enjoys being the one to lead the "away team".

I would like to see something on the Enterprise D in the 1 year gap (could be a novel) basically the D is doing milk runs after a large portion of the fleet is decimated.....and then Iconians.

However, unless it is a cameo, I do not want to see Picard, or the entire ensamble cast in that show. Perhaps one of the secondary characters solo, such as Geordi. But no ensemble. Even if it had some flaws, Picard Season 3 was a perfect send off for the crew.

This seems very unlikely. A TV movie, maybe, but I couldn't imagine a Picard-centred film could be considered a cinema draw.

I can't see Sir Patrick toplining a $200 million feature film at his age. :shifty:

No worries. :)

That's what we do around here ... argue and drink raktajino and Romulan ale!

It's a classic trope (the last person you'd ever anticipate gets the big prize).

Think about Star Wars -- who could've forseen Luke Skywalker (a scrawny kid from nowhere) being the One to defeat Darth Vader?

So…’movie.’ Do they mean ‘movie’ in the sense of the low-budget TV-movie schlock they’re gonna do for that Section 31 thing? Or a theatrical film for the big screen? ‘Cause Sir Patrick has clout, but not that much clout. The last Star Trek movie he was in bombed. This idea (if it’s even a legit thing) has ‘direct to DVD’ written all over it.

It was also the early-00s, when Trek in general was on the decline. “Trek fatigue” and all that.

The conditions are different now.

I’m not sure if it will be in theatres, and I’m not sure if it matters if its not, outside of whether it qualifies for Emmy nominations or Oscars nominations.

I would like to see a story that explores Picard/Laris, Picard/Beverly, or both. I also wouldn't mind Picard spending more time with Jack.

Even though it's Data, not Picard, a scene with Data and Soji should've happened in Picard Season 3, although I can't think of a natural place for where it would fit. So, if they could fit it into here, I'd be all for it.

As I recently read that Spiner said that some character driven scenes involving Picard, Geordi and Data from “All Good Things” were cut, a film to get those character moments alone would be worth another film.

And since TPTB aren’t bringing back Short Treks anytime soon, even though they’re cheaper to make, this seems like the next best thing.

Basically, all the stuff I would've liked to have seen if Picard had gone into a fourth season of itself.

If its only going to be a 2 hour movie, 2.5 hour movie at best, they have to be careful how much they cram in if they ever make it. Don’t get me wrong: its understandable and reasonable to want the cameos that did not make the cut for S3 to make an appearance, since that gives us a TNG/DS9/VOY crossover movie without breaking the bank. But if they put in too much, no matter how well meaning it is, the script starts to get a little long. Meaning not only will it be another NEM situation, where scenes are cut from the film. But in general, it will be difficult to develop the antagonist - unless it’s a known antagonist, or the antagonists require no lines - , or give the secondary main characters moments or development of their own. Basically, running into the issues faced by Troi, Beverly and Geordi, through the films, plus Worf in NEM. And a great writer would be able to figure out how to give all of them memorable moments, as so to not repeat the issues from the first four TNG films. Whatever the film turns out to be, it would be best to not go down the Justice League Star Trek idea.

For all we know, the TNG cast could have cameo appearances, along the lines of what Scotty and Chekov had in GEN, The Doctor had in FC, or Spock had in Into Darkness, that are spread out throughout the film and that’s the extent of their involvement. Especially if its a backdoor pilot to Legacy.

I’m personally choosing to measure expectations until more is known.

Instead of "saving the galaxy" it could be something personal.

Worf gets a clue, that alternative Tasha Yar ist still alive contrary to Sela's statement in the past and is being held captive deep in former romulan space. The old crew feels obliged to bring her home and borrows the old girl in a humorous way, because starfleet refuses to authorize a rescue mission. They replacing the ship in the fleet museum with an advanced hologenerator, so it seems that she is still there from the outside. Then we get the final fight with Sela which we never had on TNG.

I think DIS has negated any “saving the galaxy” stories for a long while, since the Federation is still standing in the 32nd century. Unless TPTB intend to formally establish that DIS either is an alternate timeline, or the Disco crew emerged in an alternate timeline.

So something personal would be preferable for the Picard-based movie. As long as its not based in revenge.

Paramount has had "Star Trek 4" in a holding pattern since 2016.

Star Trek 4 isn't happening. Anyone (in general) who thinks it is has lied to themselves. If they don't view it as a priority, they're in no hurry to make it, and it'll continue to be put off indefinitely. If they do view it as a priority, they'll go with someone who can get it made and -- after what we've seen during the last eight years -- it isn't Bad Robot. Which means it won't be JJ Abrams' Star Trek 4, it'll be someone else's Star Trek 1. But I don't think that someone else is going to be Secret Hideout. So, whatever does or doesn't happen with the next cinematic film isn't going to have anything to do with the TV Movies.

With how much it costs to make a Kelvinverse film. And how much is costs to make a season of PIC, I could see TPTB doing a season of Trek focused solely on the Kelvinverse, and that is Star Trek 4, so to speak. If they ever care to revisit the Kelvinverse again.

But I agree that the film itself is not going to happen at this point. Too many starts and stops surrounding the project suggest this.
