They've seen flying objects that they couldn't identify. That much is true.

This. It doesn't mean they've seen aliens. People seem to confuse what the statements actually mean often.
But I do wonder there must be some percentage of these sightings that could possibly be an actual non Earth craft.
Why? Just because lots of people claim to see them? Lots of people claim to see Jesus in waffles and all other odd places. Does that mean a percentage of them are actually seeing Jesus?
But I'd like to be optimistic here and think that maybe one or two actual sightings were the real deal as far as the UFO sightings go, the other thing no comment.
It's some number between zero and one hundred, inclusive. But I do wonder there must be some percentage of these sightings that could possibly be an actual non Earth craft.
But it's highly revealing when you see how many mistakes are made. Like those lens flares. Those pilots were absolutely convinced that they were witnessing UFOs in action. The clip is just that... a clip. No doubt, later they would've realized their mistake. Was that portion captured on video? If it was, certainly the folks who WANT to propagate the "aliens are here" narrative will leave that out. How many other reports have this where there's mistaken claims of UFO's only to be later debunked... but that debunking is not kept along with the original report?Whether it's little green men, robot probes, or whatever, the UFO phenomenon isn't just mass hallucinations or swamp gas. Yes, probably a lot of sightings could be attributed to experimental military aircraft or in this case, IR camera artifacts, but when you have world leaders such as President Truman and Soviet PM Gorbachev saying these things are real, it can't be dismissed outright.
Von Neumann probes are a possibility, though why they seem to be programmed to dick about is another matter.
An alien civilization advanced enough to travel the stars with ease will be advanced enough to avoid detection by the primitive technology of Cletus and Enos Geewillickers.
The idea that any alien race is harnessing the fantastic energies required to traverse the immense gulf between the stars just to murder some cows, butt-probe a few backwoods yokels, and play tag with jet fighters is just... goofy.
The CPU takes "to boldly go where no-one has gone before" too literally?Bug in the software..... Doesn't explain anal probing.

I think we would be mistaken to think we have any conception as to what might possibly motivate visitingI have extremely significant doubt that alien life has visited us in person... because of the extremely vast distances involved and the time it would take to get here--for what? Would any intelligent beings commit themselves to leaving behind the people they know and their entire way of life, to venture off on a lark to observe a primitive species on a planet many hundred thousands of light years away? Earth is far outside the galactic cluster where "it's all happening." We're down the block beyond the street lights, tucked somewhere deep in the forest, when all the "action" is going on at the house next door. Makes no sense to check us out personally.
I'm not so sure about that. We don't have any conclusive evidence at this point. And think of this -- the proliferation of recording devices that now pervade our society, as every phone as the capability of taking photos and a great many can record HD video. Despite all this, there was no massive spike of credible UFO videos and photos. Of course, with the advent of digital editing being available to anyone willing to try it, there has been a plethora of fakes...One thing IS absolutely certain in all this: there is SOMETHING going on up there. What that
might be, we will probably never know. We will have eradicated the aspects of higher civilization
before long, and they will again become "gods" to the sad primitives left behind.

Because it's a valid idea as to how the universe might actually be explored by thinking beings in a reasonable time frame? It is somewhat misnamed - John von Neumann came up with the concept of universal assemblers but not of using them as space probes. The probe concept might date from as late as the 70s.I can't fine the link but some astronomer made the huge claim that that funky asteroid with a name like Omarossa is a Von Neuman Probe..
Don't ask me how these people get these crazy ideas.
