Spoilers Peacemaker: Season 2 - Discussion and Spoilers

My feelings on the last episode is pretty much the same as everyone else. This episode would have worked better as a mid season episode.

Apparently it won't be Peacemaker season 3 but a show called Checkmate.

I GUESS it got cut.

But if you really want your day ruined then get this...

James Gunn said that Deadpool almost showed up behind one of those doors and Ryan Reynolds was up for it.

Why not? Fandoms and companies could use a little more cooperation occasionally like they did ages ago with the DC/Marvel crossover.

That one universe with the skulls on legs felt like it was out of Doom though

Would be ok if they transition to a new show called Checkmate as long as the crew stays and it's as fun and whacky as Peacemaker.

This episode would have worked better as a mid season episode.

Yes, the cliffhanger would have worked better as a mid season break imo. Then the second part of the season could have focused on the gang rescuing Chris and shutting down Argus' plan with the portals. I think the lack of a big threat was also a problem this season. There was no real threat that our heroes had to stop. This episode introduces Argus' plan to send metahumans to Salvation. That could have been the big threat that needed to be stopped.

James Gunn said that Deadpool almost showed up behind one of those doors and Ryan Reynolds was up for it.

That would have been super cool. I would have loved to see that.

Disappointing finale to a wierdly paced season. Several episodes early in the season felt too short, or like you could combine two into one episode. This felt long and padded. Like ten minutes of it seemingly was musical montages which started to feel pretty self indulgent by Gunn. Rick Flag changes personaltiy and goes totally evil in a montage. He was an idiot in Creature Commandos, but at least he meant well. Now he's just totally meta-racist? Sasha is apparetly good, despite seemingly being evil for most of the season? They could have set these turns up much better.

It's not all bad: the flashback to the boat and the hotel scene were really good. I liked Adebayo telling off Adrian for how he treated his mother.

But overall I was pretty unsatisfied and the worst part is it feels like Gunn's falling into the same trap the MCU did where everything is setting up something else and nothing feels complete. I don't want stuff from this to be resolved in some movie: I just want to watch Peacemaker as Peacemaker. This felt like a half seaosn finale/half start of a new season/half set up for a spin-off, maybe? Or a third of each, that would make more sense.

All season they've had this subplot where Adrian feels underappreciated by Chris and jealous that Ads is his best friend and in the finale we get...nothing. I guess they're just fine again.

It's weird that all the stuff about Eagly being some supernatual eagle God got resolved halfway through the season then never came up again.

Danielle Brooks carried this episode with 2 extremely emotional performances and she knocked it out of the park. Were the Emmys or Globes not completely averse to Gunn projects or Superhero movies for the most part she should get at least a nomination for this episode.
She nearly had me in tears twice! Absolutely agree.

I love how James Gunn subverts expectations. I kind of expected a big action finale. Earth-X Keith was shown to have survived, and Harcourt specifically set up the idea that he'd come after Chris, so that was what I expected the finale to be. And it was something completely different. it was almost no action, all character and story. When James Gunn says Peacemaker is where he can basically do what he wants, he really means it.

i don't mind the set-up of Salvation for the further DCU, because it is easy enough to explain the concept in short terms without people actually having to see how it started.

And, at least for the time being, here is the final episode of the Peacemaker podcast:

Currently watching that podcast, I need to add; I also love that James Gunn allows himself to be vulnerable in front of an audience (even a remote one with this podcast), specifically when he talks about his feelings for his dad inspiring Adebayo's words to Chris.
