Paramount/JJ trying another Trek movie (that will probably never get made).

So instead of a a gatekeeping movie you get gate keepers. that say you're not enough of a fan you don't know what dilithium is or something to that effect.
so you can't be a quote-unquote real fan. I'd say more the merrier what ST09 did do was bring the Casual fan and make Star Trek more profitable as more people wore t-shirts bought models Etc.
And more money equalls more star trek.

I disagree. The more fans the merrier. And I can guarantee that TOS was intended to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, not just a small clan.
I'm not saying all fans feel this way but that it can impact the idea of a mass appeal film can rub wrong because of the emotions.

TOS was designed for a larger audience but time shifted that.

A Star Trek movie needs as much mass-appeal as possible.
So check which movies cashed in and translate that to the Trek universe(s). Superhero movies with super-powered people in outrageous costumes are all the rage now. Perhaps take (a new) Kirk and Spock, put them onto a mission with
Guardian of the Galaxy-copypaste Rogues
and end with an epic
Enterprise + cool small ship of the Rogues, against Bad Guy
battle.
Plenty asteroids, nebulae background, planet hopping, dinosaur/alien monsters.

And again....effects-rich Enterprise vs. mirror Enterprise battle. Sexyfied-dressed up 'evil' counterparts of the crew, with plenty of eyeshade and superfluous makeup.

Yes. I'd say that's exactly what they should do to make Trek movies competitive in today's cinematic environment.

Before someone comes at me, this is not the type of thing that interests me, but this is in fact what would be the most likely thing to make massive amounts of money.

I'm not bothered by it. I have Discovery and Picard on the TV end. Plus I have the first six movies. I've already had "my" Trek Film Series, I've had it for a long time, and it got to end on its own terms. If I like any further films (like FC, 2009, and Beyond), then it's an added bonus. If not, then "Oh, well."

I think Kelinda Vazquez will make one I like, though. A) She's a Discovery writer. B) She was named after a Star Trek character. She was raised on the thing. C) She has other writing credits and has written other stuff. Her credits aren't Star Trek Only.

Crazy Rich Asians is one that was critically successful. She has a popular following still from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" as well its sequel. She is well known enough outside of Trek to make it work. So, why not?
So, the only thing she's been in over the last 25 years is a film 25 years ago with a small cult following, and another movie more recently. Clearly one to carry a blockbuster movie in the 2020s....

So what? Why not try? No one seems to answer that question. Star Trek has seen her gain popularity, and Discovery was a popular streaming show that it got awards. So, yes, I say, try it!

I don't care how old a person is.

2021-1997 = 24 < 25 .... Technically correct.

I think the point that we all seem to be making is the apex of her career was long, long ago.
You're digging your heels pretty deep into this. It's making it sound like you have an axe to grind with Michelle Yeoh.

Serious question: apart from being Emperor Georgiou, what else has Michelle Yeoh really done in the last 25 years that makes her a popular star (beyond the scope of Trekkies)?

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Babylon A.D. (2008)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
Reign of Assassins (2009)
The Lady (2011)
Strike Back (2015)
Marco Polo (2016)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Last Christmas (2019)
Shang-Chi (2021)

This isn't her full filmography (which features a whole range of films and television appearances in China and America and elsewhere), but a selected sampling of what I believe are memorable performances of hers in a starring role or supporting role in a major motion picture or that one cameo in a huge movie franchise that will get her recognized even if Star Trek was never a thing.

She's a huge star completely unrelated to Emperor Georgiou.

Section 31 wouldn't be a good choice for a film. Georgiou's character arc has a lot of baggage. It would be a challenge to service that while not being overburdened by it.... Unless this is a Paramount + movie.

I dunno...personally I never even had heard of her prior to Discovery and Crazy Rich Asians, and I know there are a lot of other people in the same boat, so I'm not so sure I'd say the "apex of her career" was so long ago.

Tell me how much did you hear about Patrick Stewart before he came to be the lead on TNG in 1987?

Lifeforce! I, Claudius! Dune!

But then, I’ve known Michelle Yeoh since seeing Supercop in the early ‘90’s, where she was billed as Michelle Khan. I thought it was great casting when they put her in that Bond movie.

So, I’m a big fan of Yeoh. I’m not at all a fan of Empress Georgiou. So, no heartburn for me if they never get that Section 31 show out of spacedock.
