P/C: our thread is eternal

and nearly dying of shock when the perverted little MU story that I co-wrote with Mackillian actually won an award (or at least I think it did! I was linked to the site by my co-author and I am so inept with computers that I can't remember how to get back to check the accuracy of that rumour). I still think that Mackillian was pulling my proverbials..

The story you co-wrote with Mackillian did indeed win a 2006 ASC award. For anyone interested below is the entire post with the list of the 2006 ASC award winners. (This list can also be found on this message ASC Awards - The Envelope, Please on the ASC Awards yahoo group or just do a google search on alt.startrek.creative.)

Congratulations to both of you! :)

Argh...I'm stuck. On ...Is Not Gold.

The Funeral Scene. All I have down for it so far is:

“Art is long, and Time is fleeting, And our hearts, though stout and brave, Still, like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave”-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

:scream:

I've been doing other stuff fine, it's just this. Plus, Death in Winter has distracted me...again. Oy.

thank you Whoa Nellie... It's nice to know I didn't dream it!!

Congratulations, rosyrock and mackillian! I really should get around to posting some of my stuff there--it scares me for some reason.

:) You're very welcome! You deserved it. Born to Endless Night was a well-written, enjoyable story. I hope to see the two of you collaborate more on ASC. If you want to read this year's comments they can be found here Trekiverse: ASCAwards. With the ASC awards being feedback based and with the voting over, each category has all the comments made in that category listed.

No, you didn't dream it. :) I know what you mean though. I felt the same way with this year's Alara Rogers Award. The TNG Author Award was enough of a surprise but the Alara Rogers Award threw me for a complete loop. That morning as I looked at the screen I called my husband at work and made him look it up on his computer at work to double check.

Warmest Wishes,

For me it's become a little community thread. I'm all P/Ced out really. I feel sorry for people who join thinking 'at last some intelluctual discussion about my favourite couple' and then have to read us blithering on about Bevhair, Action Picard and whether that Vash gal was a good thing too far.

How do we compare to other pairing threads? The Enterprise ones always look a bit brutal because of the triangle around T'ThinWomanWho'sNameEscapesMe - but I could be wrong. Do the other forums have anything similar?

The Enterprise forum, from what I can tell, has shipper threads about Trip/T'Pol (which leads to someone saying "Let's hope he doesn't trip over t'pol on the floor" or something similar), Archer/T'Pol, and then just threads on how dreamy Trip and/or Reed and/or Archer and/or Mayweather are.

The Voyager forum has Janeway/Chakotay, although I'm not sure if there's a thread currently active. There's also Harry/Seven, if one were to start a thread, Doctor/Seven, Neelix/Kes, and so on.

The DS9 forum might have Odo/Kira (one of my favorite ships), and...Ezri/Bashir or Jadzia/Bashir or just plain Dax/Bashir, and not much else.

The TOS forum could potentially have Chekov/Uhura, Sulu/Uhura, Kirk/Uhura, Kirk/Chapel, Spock/Chapel, Kirk/Spock, McCoy/Spock/Kirk, and so on (yes, I'm getting slashy).

TNG...well, we're really the only shipper thread active, really. But, if one were to start a thread...

They certainly were brutal back when the series was still on--which was the last time that I bothered to look at them. They were always banning shipper discussion from other ENT threads--a sort of demilitarized zone--and I think once they even went so far as banning shipping threads for a brief period in order to force people to cool off. It didn't work.

Apart from the ENT forum, I think that we're the only long-running shipping thread out there. I don't recall ever seeing a proper shipping thread in the TOS forum, come to think of it. And in a way I respect them for that.

Well, TOS never really went into much romance or anything, so most shipper threads in that forum would be pure speculation and sniping.

And the ENT shipper threads have apparently become fortress-like, with other shipper threads springing up to discuss a certain ship specifically, or so I've heard.

I have to admit that, in my little over one year here, the P/C threads have been the one constant. They're also the one place I return to, time and again, to post.

I don't know about you guys, but I guess for me the allure of P/C has always been the 'what might have been' moments (Like Picard's mad rush to gather Beverly up and hug her after she finds her way back from the never, never in 'Remember Me') These little pieces of almost unconscious affection between my favourite two created many a fantasy in my head about how it should have happened between them.
I had no idea that anyone shared this little foible of mine and I kept my dreams to myself for many years (and I MEAN many. I saw the first screenings of all those TNG episodes way back when..)
When I finally put pen to paper I was totally blown away to find that there were other fanatics out there.. and I've never looked back.
I love the camaraderie here. I like the people, the talk, the odd point of view every now and then that arises and gives a new wider angle to my P/C world.
The P/C thread is a great place to visit and while we keep chatting about our obsession ('til we are old and grey) we keep the magic alive and my heaven is complete.

One of the things that I really like about P/C is the subtlety of the relationship. It's there onscreen in a multitude of episodes, but it's never made into a big dramatic thing. Just, as you say, these little pieces of almost unconscious affection, the little moments and exchanges of dialogue. You can watch and read so much into them. At the same time, though, it's not all in the heads of the fans and I like that too.

Another good thing is the long-term nature of their friendship. I love the idea of them having been apart for ten years at the beginning of Encounter at Farpoint, and then coming back together and having to deal with those feelings all over again.

I think that this thread makes welcome posters of all shipping orientations, which makes it more of a community thread than a shipping thread (or half and half at least), hence the longevity.

Re the Kirk/Spock threads, I think that they were stopped about 5 years ago, as they were dominating the forum and getting a lot of posters warnings.

 I agree. Very well said.

Certainly it's the fun discussions you guys have that draw me back to this thread.

But the nature of the P/C relationship lends itself to discussion - there's so much history there, and so much possibility for a future and yet nothing actually happens. Perfect for creating new stories of our own!
