P/C: our thread is eternal

On another note, I've just been going through all of the old TrekBBS threads that I'd saved, and realised that not all of you may have had the chance to see the classic original P/C thread. ("P/C run amok.")

If anyone is interested in seeing where it all began (*sniff*) then I have a 400 page PDF file with your name on it. Unfortunately the avatars and smileys didn't survive whatever format I originally saved it in, but all the text is there...

I've got P/C run amok saved

*sigh*

I remember my lurking days, before finally posting. The P/C thread is what caused me to join TrekBBS

Wow, you really *have* been lurking a long time!

I lurked and read the P/C thread for about 2 weeks. Figuring that the majority of the board was this entertaining, I decided to join.

I remember that my first post ever was on either page 15 or 16.

Little did you realise how cruelly you were to be disappointed. Does the rest of the board have coffee and croissants? No. Does the rest of the board have Bev-on-desk? Only when I deign to visit them. Does the rest of the board have COLD SEX? Now that I think of it that sounds like the title of a Jayson thread, but even so I think not.

Oh, where is this new fan fic, BTW? I haven't read anyone's fic in over two months, due to a busy May and then June, which is always hectic when you have two jobs in tourism.

Updated ...Is Not Gold.

I wanted to ask, before I moved on, if it would be in character for Picard to try and convince people, especially friends, to not go on missions and the like.

I had ended the latest installment of ...Is Not Gold with Picard requesting Jack to stay behind after an emergency Senior Staff meeting. I had originally planned to have Picard, because of Beverly and Wesley, convince Jack to stay behind and let someone else go in his place.

(I do intend to work in some niggling thoughts for Picard, since he hasn't been really pining over Beverly very much yet)

Picard always struck me as the sort of guy that would send his own grandmother to her certain death if he thought it was for the good of the mission.

But he tried to convince Bev to leave in E@F, and Nella in Lessons.

Those are the two that come to mind. Interestingly, they're both love interests.

^But such concern tends to be once they are not mission-critical. Nella had to take her chances and maybe fry on the planet. He got rid of her after she'd done her duty and nearly died.

Hmmm...

I suppose. I wanted to be true to Picard's character, and I wasn't sure if he'd try and talk Jack out of the mission, or not.

EDIT: Oh, I had almost forgotten to add this.

I was watching First Contact recently, and I know this has been said many times, but Picard and Crusher really don't interact at all. I don't think they even talk to each other.

He outranks him at this point in your story? If so and he felt strongly enough he'd just order him not to go, or send someone else, or go himself. I struggle to see Picard suggesting Jack refuse orders and possibly brand himself a coward. Maybe I'm not seeing the scene the same way. I'm possibly over-protective of Picard's good name in fanfic.

Picard is Crusher's CO (Jack is a Lieutenant Commander, and the Second Officer of the Stargazer).

I had originally planned the scene to be Picard suggesting Jack not go, because of the potential danger and what might happen to Beverly and Wesley. Now, however, I'm just wondering if it should be a "Yes, Captain?" *Picard pauses* "Nothing, just good luck, and be safe" type of moment.

Hi! I haven't had a chance to catch up on much reading. (My son had a little league baseball tournament this weekend.)

:guffaw:

I agree with the point mon capitaine is making. If you watch the fifth season episode "Power Play" Picard maneuvers Troi, Miles O'Brien and Data, all of whom have been taken over by hostile noncorporeal life forms, along with himself, Worf, and Keiko O'Brien held as hostages to a cargo bay with every intention of Riker blowing the hatch and sucking all six of them into space to save the ship if necessary.

IMO, that would be the better way to do it.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie
