Orphan Black Season 5 - The Final Trip

Orphan Black wrapped up maybe two months ago. I think the news that Frain would be in Discovery came after the wrap party.

Last trailer before the new season begins. I really hope Helena doesn't have a Miscarriage. We've already had that with Grace. Also, more Ferdinand and Krystal are always welcome.

One of the reasons I wanted to rewatch the entire season before season 5 started was because of the season four premiere. I've always wanted the Beth episode, and not only did we get the Beth episode we got deeper into Neolution, giving it the backstory to jumpstart the season forward.

The reason I love this episode more now though was because it got the emotional parts so right. We saw Beth popping pills, getting the survallience equipment, her relationship with Art, and then the two big gut punches, her scene with Paul and her killing Maggie Chen. Honestly, watching the entire season in such a short time made this episode so rewarding. As a huge fan of Orphan Black, to see all those Easter eggs planted here was such an awesome thing to see again.

Season Four really did get off to an awesome start.

Tonight, my rewatch brought me to the three episodes of Season 4 I was very much looking forward to seeing again, Episode 6 (The death of Kendell), Episode 7 (Sarah and Beth on the Bridge), and Episode 8 (Jesus Christ Superstar, Mrs. S goes badass on Duko).

These three episodes really were a roller coaster of emotions while still advancing the Orphan Black mythos in so many major ways. I love season 4, and I think the reason why I consider this the best season of the show was because it took the mystery of season 1 and basically unraveled it, even though it made the Proleathean storyline in Season 2 almost obsolete. I wonder if we will see the Proleatheans again in Season 5 or were they basically a one off storyline that went up in flames like the Farm did.

With that being said, I'm so glad I was able to fit these episodes in tonight. This really is Orphan Black firing on all cylinders, and once you get to the Jesus Christ Superstar scene and Duko getting offed, you can't help but cheer because the emotional ringer you've been through with the leda clones made that scene feel earned.

Also, those bridge scenes might make me cry every time. When Beth says "Bring us together Sarah, we Need You", that's just so sad, but then MK visits Kira and things might start looking up.
I really really love this series, and this rewatch is making me think when all is said and done, Orphan Black might be a top 5 series for me of all time.

After rewatching the series the last couple of weeks and going through some withdrawal, I had a few more questions I would like to see answered in the show.

1) What is up with Kira and why she is so special

2) I was confused watching the season four finale about the camp on the island. Was the messenger PT Westmoreland? Is he playing both sides because he did rescue Charlotte and Cosima.

3) we know where Cosima went but where is Charlotte? Don't hurt her, writers.

4) will one or more of the Leda clones die? I hope not but with everything they've been through, i wouldn't be surprised.

5) will we see Tony again

6) will we see the proleatheans again

I hope this series sticks the landing. It may end up being a top 10 series of all time and I'm excited that it's almost here.

1) What is up with Kira and why she is so special
The trailer was cut in a way that hints at potential supernatural abilities (the cut suggests she's talking to her mother when she isn't there), which is not the first time the show has made such hints at that (knowing how the other clones feel being the latest of a long string of suggestions). That worries me, but I hope we don't go there.

The medical scan from her visit to the hospital thing was... interesting.

I would be happy if we learn anything about Kira, because at this point we only know she's genetically interesting, with almost zero explanation of what that translates to, and if it translates to more than what should be expected – why. Hints have been all over the place.

To everyone outside her loved she's seen like an experiment or a prop, so I kinda hope there's nothing that special about her (for them at least – she could still hold the key for curing Cosima and the others), so everyone chasing after the poor kid (who gets abducted again this season) doesn't get anything out of that. But even if there is something special, we should at least know what it is. A person is a not a MacGuffin.

2) I was confused watching the season four finale about the camp on the island. Was the messenger PT Westmoreland? Is he playing both sides because he did rescue Charlotte and Cosima.

When last season ended, I thought it was settled – it was him. Now the trailer left me with the weird feeling he's not.

I got the idea that he's a sociopathic individual with attitudes from a century ago, which is why he's not a friend and staying with him is unsafe, but he might have no reason to go out and harm people. And, in fact, no reason not to wish to provide help when that didn't cost him.

6) will we see the proleatheans again
And who were these people looking for Helena?

I was able to go to an advanced screening of the premiere tonight. I don't want to spoil but I will say it got off to a great start. That time flew by and I'm excited for the various storylines, like westmoorland, and Kira and Mrs. S kidnapping.

This show really is my most anticipated season of tv this year and it got off to a great start.

Great episode. However, if anything happens to Helana's babies... :scream:

They deliberately avoided showing us P.T. Westmoorland and hopefully that's because they're hiding a surprise guest star and not because he doesn't exist in some fashion.

With that in mind, I can't help but think of small parallels to LOST. Various oddities on an island with a mysterious monster and an even more mysterious secret leader. I know it's a bit of a stretch but "Weirdness on an isolated island" will always translate to LOST forever more.

Only Donnie would flee a special forces group with a roller suitcase through the woods.

I can't help but nitpick a few minor things. Why did Sarah use the photo of Kira when she could've just used the matchbook? Where does Revival get fuel for the ATV if they're completely self-sufficient (okay, they're almost that, so I guess that covers the fuel)? How did Sarah just walk into the clinic when Cosima needed Delphine's key to get in?

I know she was wearing boots with a heel but I was surprised to see Elise Levesque standing tall over Art.

Was that the emergency loon call?

Perhaps Cosima didn't lock the door behind her. Also, Sarah is an experienced thief; I'm sure she can pick a lock.

It took me a few minutes to recognize Levesque, and I was surprised at her apparent height too. According to IMDb, she's just half an inch shorter than Kevin Hanchard's 5'10", so I guess the heels made up the difference.

I need to see this episode again but I'm glad it has been well received. The only thing that confused me about the episode was Art's Partner and what her deal was. Other than that it was an awesome start to the season. I think I'm going to love Cosima's storyline with Westmoorland and I hope Delphine does come back.

In terms of Revival and being self sustaining it seems like it's a short drive to civilization so maybe that's where the fuel is. It didn't take Rachel that long to get there but then Westmoorland probably brought her to the place via helicopter. Last season did end with a knock on the door and her insanely creepy smile.

Yeah, I was disappointed that they shipped Delphine off to Sardina (couldn't they at least send her to mainland Greece? :p ) . Hopefully there's a good in-story reason for that because the clock is ticking and I want more Delphine.

Seemed pretty clear to me -- the Neolutionists have agents in positions of authority and she's one of their people, assigned as his "new partner" to pressure him into giving up the location of Helena and the Hendrixes.

I usually don't ship tv couples, but I want Cosima and Delphine to be happy by series end.

This is why I said I needed to see the episode again. ;)

By the way Helena and the Hendrixes would be an amazing title for a spinoff sitcom.

I rewatched the episode tonight, and yeah the Matty thing makes more sense now. Maybe I just got caught up in the excitement of the premiere that I didn't put 2 and 2 together at the time. I liked it the second time around but it was mostly set up to put the various characters in place for the season. We could have gotten a whole lot more Helena but I'm sure that will come in time. I really did like the stuff at Revival, and Charlotte and Cosima reuniting was a really nice scene.

As for the questions about fuel, Mud did say they were almost self sustaining so maybe what I said about the fuel thing was correct. Also, from when Sarah was in the Clinic to when we see her next at the boathouse, dawn was about to set in, so it had to be several hours passed in between scenes. I'm sure Rachael has accessible transportation considering she speaks for the 170 year old founder of Neolution and I thought Cosima did do something to help Sarah with the bandage. Like I thought after watching this episode originally, this felt more in tone with Season 2's premiere than it did with Season 3 and 4. There was more action (While Season 3 was more learning about Castor and Season 4 was the flashback) and I almost think we might get a second season premiere this week kind of felling in what this last episode couldn't do. I also have the feeling we're going to meet Westmoorland in this upcoming episode.
