Orphan Black - Season 3 Discussion

That was a great start to the season. I'm still digesting it, but I was expecting a lot going in and came out satisfied. After a few hours, I do admit it did rush things a bit, but as a setting up point for the season, it felt on par with last year's premiere. We have a foundation of where this season is going with the new Castor clones, trying to get Helena out, and Delphine in the new role and I think in a few episodes we are going to really dig deeper into what all this means. I'm really interested to see where this season goes.

I do not trust Delphine one bit though. That scene with Rachel and the eye was just cruel (And I think Rachel deserved something but man that was tough) and that Ferdinand guy was a creep.

I don't think we got names to any of the Castor clones, but I keep hearing Rudy, Seth, and someone else? Who is who? The only Castor clone we know of right now is Mark and hopefully he and Gracie comes back in maybe episode 3.

That was pure evil and Racheal still deserved it, she was going to kill all the clones besides herself.

Except that it seemed to me that Delphine called Alison before she'd managed to convince Sarah to play along. So that doesn't work. The explanation that Alison had never met Rachel works much better.

^^^I'm content with the explanation that Sarah has interacted with Rachel enough that she'd have an easier time imitating her, and Alison did actually play Sarah before, so there is precedent. Also, taking a step back, how cool was it to watch Tatiana play Sarah playing Rachel and playing Allison playing Sarah?

I loved the hell out of this episode. I didn't dislike the premiere of Season 2, but it didn't feel as packed as this premiere was. I didn't get a chance to revisit the series before hand so I was playing catch up a bit here and there since the last time I watched Season 2 was when it was in first run. I may marathon the series though once I'm done with school this quarter to see how it all fits together.

I think my absolute favorite part of the episode though had to be the beginning with Helena imagining a baby shower for herself with her sisters.

Also, the scorpion that Helena was talking to, I think this is the first time we've seen it on the show yeah? Well it was introduced in the comic already and shown to have been "speaking" to Helena for a long time now, so it's inclusion tonight was a nice callback to the comics (really, if you're not reading the Orphan Black comic yet you should, it does cover some ground that we've already seen in the show, but it also sheds light on things too).

The talking Scorpion (that yes, was voiced by Maslany) has always been a constant in Helena's life (as revealed in the Helena issue of the Orphan Black comic). It was there as she was being "conditioned" to be a cold blooded killer that she was in the first season. It was her only friend. But this is the first time it showed up in the actual show.

I'm not sure I'm ready for all the other clones yet, but I'll keep watching anyway. I was enjoying Sara and all her sisters and their perils and antics better without the addition of male clones. But, I guess they have to introduce some new arc for season 3. I'm glad to see Cosima getting well.

Didn't know there were comics, but I'm having plenty enough fun with the show.

It just occurred to me that it would be a neat in-joke if they cast Dee Bradley Baker in some role on the show. After all, he did the same basic thing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars that Maslany and now Millen are doing here, playing multiple clone characters and making each one a distinct personality (and he didn't even have the luxury of giving them different accents!).

I'm also kind of hoping that someone in the show will jokingly refer to the Ledas' conflict with the Castors as "the Clone Wars." Probably Cosima or Scott would be most likely to go there.

What strikes me is how I only had to look at "Sarah" in the cell for two seconds, before she even spoke, and I realized "That's Alison!" It must be something to do with the makeup as well as Maslany's expressions. Or maybe something to do with the bangs, which were still present even with her hair made wavy. Somehow, Alison is the one who, to me, looks the least like the other sisters. I always have trouble remembering she's actually played by the same actress as the others. I sometimes have trouble remembering with all of them, in fact, but especially with her.

And that's why she deserves an Emmy!

Well, to be fair, she did look pretty different from the Sarah we know, so for a few seconds, i wondered if it might be a new clone.

How many more are out there (potentially)?

There's the "Original" 11.

6 were killed in Helsinki (were the "32 collateral deaths" other clones?). Were those 6 even from the same batch as Sarah & co.?

Add in Krystal.

How many more are out there (potentially)?

They probably won't ever establish a firm number, since that might limit their story options. To date, we're aware of 20 Leda clones in all, 12 of which are deceased. In addition to Sarah, Alison, Cosima, Helena, and Rachel, the live ones include the transsexual clone Tony Sawicki; Crystal or Krystal Goderich, the blond clone that we saw the Castors try and fail to kill in the surveillance footage this week; and Charlotte Bowles, the only living preadolescent Leda clone. The dead include Beth Childs (suicide), Katja Obinger, Janika Zingler, Danielle Fournier, and Aryanna Giordano (all killed by Helena), Jennifer Fitzsimmons (respiratory illness), and the six Helsinki victims.

The more I think about the scorpion the more I kinda like the idea. That would be kind of funny if Tat wins the Emmy for the scorpion though.
