Open Speculation about "Star Trek: Picard"

Well, the two of them have pretty much been entwined with each other ever since Paramount decided that Trek Phase-II would be oh so much better, as a movie, after seeing the gobs of money "Star Wars '77" made.

It’s not a Star Trek thread if Star Wars isn’t brought up at some point :)

Yeah. To be quite honest - I find it quite fascinating how harsh J.J. Abrams treated Lucas. He was his idol. They met publicly before Abrams directed "Star Trek(2009)". And that movie was very obviously inspired by Star Wars.

And then this numbnut completely shunned Lucas while doing "Force Awakens"? Like, what the hell? I mean, I know Abrams is extremely big on "secrecy" on his projects. But not involving the guy who invented it all, not at any level? Dick move.

Though apparently they at least talked this time, in preparation for Star Wars episode 9:

I wish I knew more about Star Wars so I could keep up with the last few posts. I don't dislike SW but it's not my thing.

With all due respect @Rahul, this is a very negative interpretation of events. For starters, the article you quote states this:
“There is no such thing as working over someone’s shoulder,” Lucas said. “I knew that I couldn’t be involved. All I’d do is make
them miserable. I’d make myself miserable. It would probably ruin a vision — J.J. has a vision, and it’s his vision.”
Lucas states that his involvement would "make myself miserable." He had to distance himself from the franchise because the fan base had treated him like a punching bag. They made his life miserable, and people now have the audacity to demand he comes back to a fan base that abused him?

Secondly, if you read the same article, Disney decided not to go forward with his story ideas. Abrams is not the new all-seeing, all-knowing, terrible god of the Star Wars universe. He has a boss, namely Kathleen Kennedy and Bog Iger.

Finally, as you alluded to (thankfully) Abrams did reach out to Lucas for Episode 9:
Now that we've watched the first teaser, we know at least ONE of the things Lucas intended for Episode IX will make it into The Rise of Skywalker: the return of the Emperor.

The situation is far more complex than this negative painting. Let's not paint Abrams like a monster.

I've actually been wondering about something.

I the most recent information regarding the show, Kurtzman and Chabon have indicated that Picard gets into space in a surprising way. We know he's no longer Starfleet. And if the character profiles which came out earlier are correct, a lot of the other mains come from a rather shifty and/or fallen background.

What if Picard is kidnapped? Basically, the young guns desperately feel they need his help for something, he will not willingly go along, so they beam him out, smuggle him in a cargo container, or somesuch thing? Picard is old enough he's probably no longer really able to defend himself physically after all. Then, a lot of the tension early in the season is Picard's resentfullness that these kids took him against his will on whatever grand adventure they have planned.

The only drugs I can see Picard dealing with on a daily basis at this point in his life...,
... are the Prescriptions keeping him alive.
:nyah:

They talked plenty before episode 7. I believe it was Lucas who chose Abrams as director. When the original writer(Arndt) of Force Awakens left/was let go, and Abrams took over as writer(in addition to already being director) and rewrote a new script, he went to Lucas's house and personally got his blessing.

In other news, I hear Seven of Nine is returning, and will appear on Picard.

It might be that we've discussed this somewhere, but I find a tiny detail in the recent TVLine Picard cast interview to be enormously intriguing:

Stewart: [Picard's] discontent and unsettled nature is present the moment the camera rolls at the beginning. I hope it will be evident that all is not well with him despite living in a beautiful place and having a good job making gorgeous wine and working closely to beautiful Romulan people.

What this suggests to me is that following the Hobus disaster, Earth (and presumably many other Federation worlds) took in Romulan refugees and supported their settlement in existing cities across the planet. What appeared in the trailer to be Picard walking with a backpack through an alien plaza is actually La Barre, France, and the Vulcanoid denizens actually those who resettled there after the catastrophe.

If so, I find this incredibly intriguing as a premise.

Ohh that's an excellent theory.

That refugee angle would definitely be the hook for Stewart, who is a passionate campaigner on refugee and migrant issues

Here's some speculation: We see the Dajh go to Picard for help. Picard goes to some female admiral and reports upon it, then later on she's being attacked.

I think that attack is because Picard went through official channels which were compromised, or the admiral he talked to is a mole. Thus, he concludes he cannot trust Starfleet to deal with this, and has to work with a team of "renegades" instead.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Amongst Starfleet's weapons are Picard and surprise. Surprise and Picard. Their THREE weapons are Picard, surprise, and an almost fanatical devotion to Federation principles. Ah...amongst their weaponry are such diverse elements as Picard, surprise, an almost fanatical devotion to Federation principles, and nice Starfleet uniforms...I'll come in again.

The Romulans are doing something with the Borg... the theory of two Romulans factions - one more pacifist one more Tal Shiar-oriented makes sense. To be able to collect drones like that, the Romulans must have found dead Borg cubes around. That might have happened because Janeway's virus actually seriously damaged/destroyed the Borg... Will be interesting to see!
