I don't know what it is but I've been on a kick lately where I've been playing some older games...despite the massive pile of new releases that I have sitting in front of me  What are some of the older games that you still find yourself playing, even ten years later?

Lately I've been going through the original Star Craft and Deus Ex. Both of which have aged really well (though Deus Ex still looks like ass).

Also while I haven't spun it up recently, I do go back to Ocarina of Time quite a bit.

A few weeks ago I found myself installing Simcity 3000 Unlimited and playing that... despite owning Simcity 4. Dunno why exactly, guess I wanted a little less complexity in my city building. :p

Deus Ex is still one of my all-time favorites--despite the craptacular graphics.

Since I don't have current hardware I am pretty much limited to older games anyway. Still lots of gems out there.

you mean theres a Civ 3 AND 4 !!!!!!!!! *checks my Mr Game & Watch* NOOOOOOO Mr Game & Watch is DEAD!!! how long have I been playing?

There were also some crappy games with the Civilization name from back when Activision still had the rights. You can safely ignore them.

Knights of the Old Republic 2 qualifies for me. I've been enjoying it recently. I'm going to get the first and also get Starcraft 1 at some point.

I've been playing a fair bit of Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed lately. Still easily the best of the NFS franchise, I think. It's a shame the AI isn't better, though... I can dust it aside with no problems these days.

Just got done replaying that yesterday in fact, and replayed KOTOR 1 the week before that. The restored content mod compelled me to give it another go, naturally. While the game is still flawed, (the whole metaphysical nature of the storyline still confuses me a little) it's a little more complete now. Granted however, the restored HK factory is a pain in the ass. You're stuck with HK-47 only and let me tell you, Killing droids one at a time with a blaster rifle is SLOOOOW. If my Jedi were there, I'd whip through that place in 5 minutes using Destroy Droid. :guffaw:

While KOTOR 1 is the more polished of the two, visually and story-wise, KOTOR 2 has better gameplay, with far more options and stuff to toy around with. This time I said the hell with it and gave my Jedi sentinel 20 in every stat and tried to keep all my skills maxed so I could experience everything and see what all the skill-influenced dialogue options were (lots of awareness ones!)

I'm not much of a PC gamer, so I miss out on a lot of good stuff there.

I'm still working off of PS2, and I'm hoping I can get a PS3 before it's obsolete. I'm really dying to play Red Dead Redemption, but I'm still playing through Red Dead Revolver (after countless times). For me, it's a really great and engaging game.

I'm still loving Resident Evil 4 on PS2. After many times playing through, I still find a great deal of replay value in it.

In keeping with the theme of this forum, and being well aware that Trek isn't well represented in any incarnation of Playstation, I still play a lot of Star Trek: Conquest. A pretty basic turn based strategy game, and it in no ways delves deeply into the franchise, but I still love the challenge and replay value of it. I still haven't been able to win in hard mode with the Federation, but I'm not giving up the fight. ;)

Well, as a retro gamer most of the games I play are from the 80's or 90's, so it would be easier for me to list the games I'm playing that are from the past decade.

Anyway, I'm currently playing through Earthbound (bought it brand new when it came out, but never finished it) and Pocky & Rocky for the SNES. Don't let the cutesy graphics fool you, this is one damn hard game. I've been trying to 1cc it, but I can barely make it to the third level.

To be fair, DX didn't even look great when it first came out  Well, we all know that it more than made up for its mediocre looks (much like other classics such as Diablo and Diablo 2).

Oh, I know. The graphics were lamented from day one as the game's worst aspect. Still, I'd rather have a great game with shitty graphics than an awful game with bright, shiny visuals.

^ Exactly. DX2 looked pretty good (though not great), but it was a terrible game. Give me DX over it any day.

On topic: Off the top of my head, games that I keep coming back to include Gothic I and II, the Diablo series, the aforementioned Deus Ex, Star Trek TNG: BotF, Star Trek VOY: Elite Force.

I don't seem to be able to find the time to play anything much besides WoW these days, but I played the original Command & Conquer again a while ago. I'm still playing The Sims 2 off and on, and I want to go back and replay a bunch of old stuff like Baldur's Gate, the various Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, NeverWinter Nights...

Then again I have lots of newer games I haven't even gotten around to yet.

I'm still waiting to get a joystick so I can play Star Trek: Klingon! And I got it when it was new!

Great Strategy Games of the 80s and 90s

Starflight & Starflight 2
Civilization
Railroad Tycoon
Colonization
Transport Tycoon
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Age of Empires

Not much of a PC gamer so most of the titles mentioned so far I have never even played. Right now I am getting my retro fix by playing NHL 95 and going through Phantasy Star 1-4 on the Master System/Genesis. I am also playing Zelda: Link to the Past on SNES. When I am done with these games I will move on to Final Fantasy 3 (or 6 depending on how you want to number it) and Chrono Trigger.

I've played the original SimCity on a Super Nintendo that my cousin owns.

I wish I had my windows laptop. I'd be playing 3000 right now, but I really want a new, not-scratched copy of SC4 (With the rush our expansion pack and the rural highway mod, of course. :) )
