I would think that since Section 31 is a one-off film, that they'll reuse/redress the SNW and Starfleet Academy/Discovery sets (since I imagine that Starfleet Academy will cannibalize the Discovery sets). So unless they can't support more than 2 shows at a time, I don't think Section 31 would be a factor.
Interesting. I wonder if he'll show up in Section 31. (Assuming Georgiou doesn't go all the way back to the 23rd century.)
I am going to be blunt. I would much rather have Legacy over an Academy show. Saying that, I will give it a chance as IMO there has never been a bad Trek show.
Given how much popularity Picard S3 has among both fandom and the general audience, there is almost certainly going to be some manner of follow-up/sequel. Of course, given Picard S3's popularity, any such sequel is going to be loaded with fanwank.
Pulled this from the web about CBS Stages Canada Is this big for a production facility? I have no idea. I also can't seem to find out what is filming there beyond Strange New Worlds.
6 stages is pretty small. The company I work for is building 42 stages in Vancouver over the next few years and currently operating 13.
Another factor to throw into this is scheduling, and I have no idea how that works, but (not counting the animated content of Lower Decks and Prodigy), I would guess Paramount+ would want to shoot it where there's always Trek content available year round (i.e., when one show finishes another starts up not long after). So I would doubt that all of the shows will be shooting concurrently. Meaning you could schedule it where one is in pre-production, while another is finishing production, and they can use the same stages.
but how much of that popularity with general audiences was due to the TNG crew and can it be maintained by Seven and a cast of relative unknowns.
Good discussion. I think a show happens. DISCO spawned SNW, a Starfleet Academy show, and a Section 31 movie. Plus it ushered in an era with 5 TV shows overlapping. Six if you count Orville. And it was never as big a hit as S3 Picard. Streamers are getting squeezed. But I think if CBS can centralize production of the shows in one locale & shoot them on a rotating schedule, it could work. A Legacy/Seven show is, well set up. Ryan/VOY is not Stewart/TNG level of popularity, but it is still significant. She is a good actress. With Jack you have a reason for JLP & Beverly to show up now and again. Plus it IS Enterprise. Sidney does for Geordi. Raffi for Worf. It is Titan as well, so Admiral Riker & Troi can make cameos (like they did on LD). Q is already on the teaser. Seven pulls in Voyager ties. Tuvok has already been on. Janeway is on PRO. They definitely teased a show with the Q/Jack scene.
That's where the fanwank comes in. Of the Titan/Enterprise G crew we saw, the only ones I expect to return are Seven, Raffi, Jack and maybe Sydney. Otherwise, go nuts. Molly or Kirayoshi O'Brien, Miral Paris, Sisko's niece or nephew, one of Tuvok's grandchildren, Kestra Tror-Riker, Ensign Harry Kim, we could be at this all day.
I'm probably in the minority on this, but I'd like them to bring back Elnor. Put him in security and have Jack man the weapons/sensors console (none of this "special counsel" stuff, the man's an ensign). Miral Paris would be a fun addition, too.
While it seems like they might be going for 23rd, early 25th, and 32nd being the main settings going forward, the lost era would be a good idea if they want to try something different. As I mentioned in another thread, Star Wars just announced a timeline with 9 distinct eras, it might be a good idea for Star Trek to do something like that.
I don’t think the financials make sense for a 2 hour movie. Unless you're going to reuse/redress sets (maybe the SNW or Discovery/Starfleet Academy sets), it would be a costly undertaking to build everything one would need just for a 2-hour movie, where you could probably justify those costs better for something that was spread across an 8-10 episode series. That's even before getting into the VFX, costuming, etc. costs. Also, unless you're doing one-offs where each movie was a one and done where they weren't serialized, they would need to keep actors under contract in some way for these movies.
I think the first officer in Legacy should be that girl Picard makes first officer in Disaster. All grown up and a real commander But honestly, I think I’d be totally down for a spin off if only because I’ll always think of Picard era as “the present.” But the very nature of the show was backwards looking (I really liked Picard- that’s not a criticism). I think it would be interesting and Seven is a solid Captain choice because the actress is always compelling. Really liked the LaForge daughters as well. I’m fine with Jack but like the poster upthread give him a real job not Captain’s buddy. Plus I’m not anti some nostalgia now and then. So a spin off would be good. A fresh story with a fresh start. And from time to time a guest can appear.
But that’s fanbase fanwank. If you are trying to appeal to a general audience you gotta go big-ish. Most people outside the fanbase don’t know who Miles and Keiko O’Brien are let alone their kids Molly and Yoshi. SNW had a leg up because it came with Spock and the Enterprise. for “Legacy” you’d almost need to have someone like Burton be a series regular at least until the show was good and established.
