Commodore Oh - Romulan or Vulcan?

IDK - The Klingons went through (and put Voq/Tyler) through great pains to hide the fact he'd been transformed.

All it too for Arne Darvin to be discovered was McCoy doing a standard scan with his Medical Tricorder.
My thinking was that Darvin was a relatively new assistant to Barris, and pretty much was snuck in via an interview.

Barris, being the overconfident buffoon, saw the paperwork in order and didn't bother with anything else.

I hope she's in the V'Shar from Gambit. After the massive loss of life on Romulan worlds, which to her might be brothers and sisters, she might have snapped like the TR-116 Vulcan on DS9.

Yes, IF they have knowledge of how to fool medical scans. Look "Trouble With Tribbles was a comedy episode - but in other 'Spy' type episodes, said spies WERE able to trick/fool equipment on all sides because they had been prepared. It seems TNG fans think the tech is sooo perfect, nothing can fool it. <--- Were that the case, there should be spies ANYWHERE - but even in TNG there were - so yeah, the equipment shouldn't be foolproof.
They couldn't have done that effective a job if something eventually came up. I prefer to think Culber just missed the tells due to being overworked and stressed out. Which makes sense. His partner had just done genetic modifications to himself against Federation law, which the ship's captain was okay with and ignored medical warnings on the matter. And Culber was basically running the medical department since his boss, the CMO was engaging in an "Andorian Tonsillectomy" which anyone who's attended Starfleet Medical School knows what that really means. So when it came to scanning Tyler three times, Culber just said "whatever, you're healthy" and moved on. It was only when Tyler insisted there had to be something that Culber paid attention to the scans and noticed the obvious.

Vulcan

- Vulcan symbols and objects on her desk
- Referred to as "an ally" by Rizzo
- Oh refers to Rizzo's soldiers that killed Dahj as "her [Rizzo's] team"

Based on their conversation and Rizzo's reference to Oh, in order for Oh to be a Romulan, she'd have to be so embedded that neither Rizzo nor Oh knows that the other is a Romulan.

Vulcan

Irrelevant. If she's posing as a Vulcan, she'd need to properly look the part.

- Oh refers to Rizzo's soldiers that killed Dahj as "her [Rizzo's] team"

Also irrelevant. If she's the top dog and Rizzo is her subordinate, that's still how she would refer to it.

Well, no. And Oh obviously knows Rizzo is a Romulan.

- Referred to as "an ally" by Rizzo

This is a good point, but it's not quite enough to be conclusive.

Counterpoint -

Oh knows about Zhat Vash, which is supposedly ultra ultra ultra secret that even many member of the Tal Shiar doubt its existence.

Oh says that they were in danger of having "their" cover blown. So she has a cover to be blown. That's not how you'd refer to yourself if you weren't specifically playing a part.

So there are arguments on both sides at the moment, but neither strong enough to say for certain.

If I was pretending to be a Vulcan I would included as many Vulcan tchotchkes in my office as possible.
Ally doesn't have to mean not Romulan. Maybe just a member of a different faction.
If Rizzo is in charge it's her team. Even if they and Rizzo work for Oh.

Now I really want a scene where we follow Rizzo into her office to find out that it's almost offensively Italian, complete with a pizza oven, bottles of olive oil, a framed light blue soccer jersey and spaghetti western movie posters on the wall, prosciutto being cured on a rack and a speaker playing Tarantella Napoletana on an infinite loop.

It could just be an alliance of convenience between Rizzo and the Commodore, either one of them or both could be Zhat Vash, possibly neither of them if they are Romulan spies for hire working for someone else.

However it is interesting to note that the Commodore wanted Dahj taken alive and Rizzo clearly did not and caused a lot of noise and mess in doing so, was that intentional I wonder or was she just sloppy, she knew Dahj was by far the more serious threat and should have knocked her out first but went for the boyfriend instead which seemed odd to me at the time unless he was more than he seemed.

Its still too early to be sure about the Commodore, she outright stated that her cover is at risk as well which means she is either Zhat Vash, Romulan or both.

Agree with your points, but I don't think you could be Zhat Vash and NOT be Romulan.

It's all about Zhat Vash.
Yes but I want to know exactly when the event happened, was it before or after the Schism, if it was before then there could be Vulcan members, if it was an AI uprising there is no real reason to keep it secret and it doesnt explain why the Romulans as a whole dont use computers much at all as only a select few are supposed to know the truth.

Also with the fall of Romulus there will be a lot of unemployed deep cover operatives left in place from before the Supernova, the Commodore could be one of those with Rizzo being the true Zhat Vash member, or alternatively the Commodore is the true Zhat Vash member and Rizzo is just a soldier doing as she is told, she may not know the full truth behind her orders.

The most probable and simple scenario is that the Commodore is Romulan just like Rizzo and they are both Zhat Vash but it is by no means a certainty at this point, although it is likely.

Plus there is the matter of timing, why go for Dahj now after so long under the radar, why not wait and let her lead them to the nest, why try to grab Dahj hard style and then go for the sister softly, how will Dahj/Soji's creators respond to such an aggressive act, why attack Mars when they did (assuming it was them), we really dont have enough information yet.

A big piece of the puzzle will fit into place when we find out who is running that Cube.

Exactly. Different infiltration methods for different purposes. Voq was going to get aboard Starfleet's most secret asset in wartime, having to pass close scrutiny not only by Starfleet proper but by a paranoid CO. His was a targeted infiltration, with a customized approach. Oh could be planted openly: the Tal'Shiar could semaphore "We're sending you one of ours, do with her what you deem proper", and SFI could well see the value of taking her in and working with her. Or they could plant Oh more covertly, possibly by replacing the real Oh (a tactic the Star Empire had favored previously).

Or then Oh is what she supposedly claims to be, and merely works with the Tal'Shiar and reports to her boss on the latest developments there. Only, she keeps secret some bits, such as working with the Illuminati of the Tal'Shiar on their more fantastic projects. And SFI accepts this, just as they aren't being completely honest with Oh on everything.

On rewatch they really focused on the Vulcan stuff on her desk. The idea was to let the viewers think she is definitely Vulcan. So I’m guessing now she is really playing the role of a Vulcan officer. Is she really Vulcan? All other evidence points to he being Romulan. We’ll probably find out definitively at some point.

Vulcan. Though I will point out that Romulans are Vulcan. They're the same goddamn species.

Vulcans and Romulans did come from the same root species, with only a minute difference formed due to the lengthy span of time (e.g. Chekov in "The Enterprise Incident", when he was trying to find Spock to beam him away from the Romulan ship and the Romulan Commander in those lovely go-go boots discussing they had the same roots, which means expect a very special miniseries in a couple years where one species takes a ship and flies far far away...)

According to Dr. Crusher in The Enemy there are subtle differences between Vulcans and Romulans. "Too many of them" as she put it, explaining why they couldn't use a blood transfusion from a Vulcan to save the Romulan's life in that episode, why it had to be Worf.

I imagine there was a lot of interbreeding in the early Romulan Empire. In order to pump up the numbers as quickly as possible.
