News Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on May 27

I've no doubt we'll see the Solo threads picked up at some stage, but I agree that Kenobi doesn't really seem like the right place for it.

Anyway, I almost can't believe that TV is where I am most excited about Star Wars these days. Never would have seen that coming when I was a kid.

Wookieepedia does note that in early 2005 Neeson did indicate he was "involved" with ROTS.

I don't really see that happening. All the material regarding Obi-Wan on Tatooine, both from Legends and the new Canon indicate he was 100% devoted to being a guardian watching over and protecting Luke, with the hope of someday teaching him the way of the Jedi and the Force. This is specially reflected in his Rebels appearance where Maul notes such a purpose could be the only thing to keep him isolated on Tatooine all these years and the fact that Obi-Wan accepted that killing Maul was the only option to ensure Luke's survival. There's plenty of drama going on on Tatooine they can get Obi-Wan involved in, with concern for Luke's safety being the impetus for getting him involved.
 
Well, to me.. Obiwan should have been training Luke early on.. Been involved in Lukes life.. Maybe He was, and something happened and Owen and Beru told him to get lost.. maybe an adventure that almost killed Luke and they were like no more.. But that doesn't jive with Luke's No skill whatsoever in the first movie.. If he had some force training early in life, he would have been better prepared.
So I just don't get what an Obi series will cover? If he was spoted or found out, Vader would have come guns blazing.. owell

That's fairly implicitly what happened, more or less.

Indeed, given that the show picks up when Luke would be about 8 years old, we may even see that exchange. That's more or less about as late as one might dare to train a Jedi without risking a repeat of the mistakes made with Anakin's training.

I'm pretty sure this will probably be the kind of story we got in the Legends novel Kenobi, and the canon From the Journal of Ben Kenobi comics, with Ben getting pulled into some kind of local drama with one of the local gangs or something along those lines.
I'm expecting kind of an old western vibe, with Ben as the unknown stranger who wanders into town, and ends up getting pulled into whatever problems they're dealing with.
The comics make it pretty clear that Owen has pretty much forbidden Ben from having anything to do with Luke at all.

Legends had an entire novel and a subplot in the Legacy comics about Obi-Wan on Tatooine. So far the new Canon has had two comic story arcs. Besides, there's plenty of trouble he can get into, what with Mos Eisley being a hive of scum and villainy, the other settlements not being any better, and all the various seedy characters who drop by to visit Jabba. There's lots to potentially cover.

I would generally prefer the Ronin/Western type approach, making it more of a character study than most other Star Wars stories with only minimal action.
But they need not stick to that if they want something a little more adventurous but still restricted to Tatooine.
Like say what if there were something ancient and force related on Tatooine that could potentially play a role, if they were so inclined? Like say some long forgotten artefact possessed by the "spirit" of some ancient evil is disturbed and calls out to Luke, making him wander off in search of it's call, forcing Obi-Wan to go rescue him.
They could go full Indiana Jones with this and have Kenobi forced to deal with a Tusken Raider shamanic death cult, mercenary fortune hunters, Jabba's enforcers, a sithspawn mutated krayt dragon and a force vision quest.

While they doing have to redo the scene from "Twin Suns", it probably look better good to have Ray Park and Ewan McGregor face off one last time (even if "Old Ben" looked more like Alec Guinness in the animation since that only about two years before the events of "A New Hope".)

I'm fine enough with the Rebels episode as it is that I don't need a live action version just to see Ewan McGregor and Ray Park together one last time.
 
We could easily have Boba Fett and/or Jabba in this show as well.

Another thought could be maybe he somehow finds out what impregnated Shmi with Anikin, could be a ancient force presence on the the planet that Obi-Wan investigates Etc..

It would also lose a lot without the build up that we got in Rebels, which would end up making it feel kind of random.
 
Only real person they couldn't use would be Han Solo... and Chewie.. the rest.. honestly could use.. no "cannon" reason not to.. So he could meet Jabba, and up and comming Boba.. considering there history of him killing his "Dad" could be a bit of grudge.. Can't be much with Crimson Dawn becuase Maul would have found him alot sooner than Twin Suns.. Maybe Kira.. possibly.. Maul was always looking for him, so if she is involved.. than it has to be kept quiet..

Honestly.. I hope they have a decent idea on what a series could cover and not make it up as they go.. I mean, alot better ideas then Kenobi..
 
I'd prefer no known characters. There is no need and would feel extremely forced. I could handle Jabba as long as he doesn't interact with Obi-Wan at all.

Or maybe Yoda and Obi Wan realized that the practice of stealing babies and training Jedi from infancy was also a pretty terrible idea, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered putting the kids in homes anyway and would have just kept them and started the training process right away.

They weren't stolen. The parents were asked. And the idea of training them young is to avoid having to make them "unlearn" their preconceptions. Toddlers have no preconceptions; their minds are open by default.
