News Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on May 27

Because it would be awesome. Do we need another reason?
Just ignore that Rebels nonsense.
Yeah, sure buddy. That's exactly what Disney & LF are likely to do.
Correct (roughly)
Not to split hairs, but as can be seen in the timeline graphic they had thrown up on screen, it might be more accurate to say that it takes place between Solo's first and second acts. About a year after Han left Corellia but two years before he deserted on Mimban.

Well, it's official now! Can't wait! What a great time to be a fan.

I don't know what they could do with Maul that would top Twin Suns.
I wouldn't try to. I'd rather see them work that scene into the series by using a different character's perspective. Interestingly enough Ezra is totally not involved and doesn't even witness the event so just do the same thing live action. Could be done as a flash forward.
If they rewrite rebels Canon i'm ok with that though.

If not that then just go for Vader and Obi Wan dual based on the unfinished line "a presence I have not felt since..." in ANH.

Just looking at the announcement of this at D23 and the timeline puts the Obi Wan series sometime during Solo and not after or before it. Seems like it won't be picking up any dangling plots from Solo but maybe we can get a cameo from Han Solo.

What other character's perspective? There was only the two of them there after Ezra & Chopper took off, the whole thing took all of two minutes, and we saw every second of it. Do we need to see Ben burn the body? Spend an episode where he leads Maul in circles around the desert before finally giving in and ending it? Stories need context and meaning and this story has already been told.

Nah. It's been established that while Vader is still looking for him on the side, the Emperor doesn't appear convinced he's even still alive and this is half a decade *after* this show is set.

I doubt Kenobi will be visiting any Imperial flight academies while living as a hermit on Tatooine.

Unfortunately, I've been concerned that they would in fact do such a thing ever since a while back when some random guy on another site confidently insisted it was going to happen.

I want to say, 'this franchise would never overwrite something from canon in such a short space of time'.

However, in the pre-Disney days, the franchise killed off Even Piell after ROTS in a book released in June 2008, only to kill him off again during The Clone Wars in an episode released in March 2011... less than three years later.

Yeah, but the cannon is a lot more unified these days.

I'm thrilled this is finally happening, Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan was the best part of the prequels. I wonder if we'll get Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse back as Owen and Baru?
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a cameo or longer guest appearance by Liam Neeson as Force Ghost Qui-Gon.

I still find it frustrating and baffling (and a little hilarious) that Neeson returned for a ghost Qui Gon in the cartoons, but not in the actual movies, so we had to settle for them TALKING about how Qui Gon was a ghost....

Schedules work out that way sometimes?

Actually, according to Wookieepedia, there was a scene with Yoda talking to Qui-Gon's Force Ghost, but it was deleted. So, Neeson's schedule wasn't the problem after all, Lucas simply axed the scene.

Scene was never filmed. Maybe he deleted it from the script for reasons having nothing to do with scheduling, but if so, it was a baaaad call.

"Let's just talk about Qui Gon being a ghost instead of showing it!"

Uh, what?

Also "filmed" is a strange term to apply to a scene between a fully CG character and a disembodied voice. Also, I'm about 90% sure I read an interview where Neeson said he did record some new voice lines for RotS.

Though I would love a continuation of the stories the Solo movie put forth, having Obi meet han 10 years before they met in the cantina and masage parlor.. would be bad..

My thoughts on a possible premise..
He finally thinks that he was a douche for just packing up and going into hiding instead of trying to kill vader or the emporer again, or forming a "Resistance" with other survivors of Order 66 to go back and try to save the galaxy.. instead of working on his sun tan..
