NYE

Well, I've got no party plans, so I thought I might just go to the movies and finally check out Avatar in IMAX 3-D... I wonder how crowded it'll be.

It was insane when we went on Monday. We bought our tickets ahead of time, got there an hour early, and there must have been at least fifty people waiting in line in front of us. I have no idea what it's like by you, but I'd suggest at least getting tickets ahead of time.

Rock Band 2 / The Beatles, Left 4 Dead 2, some episodes of The Real Ghostbusters and Chinese take-out.

Yep, we're going to have the wildest New Year's Eve party in recorded history.

I put out Waterford linens, crystal candlesticks, crystal glasses, and our china, none of which we've ever used. But honestly, if something breaks, it's not like it can't be replaced. And I think I'd feel worse if we ended up just never using this stuff. It's pretty, why not use it?

This is absolutely the right attitude to nice things. The whole point of them is to use them and enjoy them. Not doing so would be like buying a nice pair of shoes and never wearing them.

And most of these sorts of higher-end matched items are actually really easy to replace lost/broken items for since the patterns/sets tend to be in production for a long time and even if not, they're kept on file at the factory for precisely this reason.

When I was young, I usually spent it with friends in Hartford or New York, though I never went to Times Square.
Oh god. We did Times Square one year.

It's probably better than doing Trafalgar Square.

A friend is doing the whole Trafalgar Square thing this year. I really don't get it. There's basically nothing there apart from a big Christmas tree and (I think) a giant display screen showing the fireworks that take place near the London Eye. And yet, she's still planning on going there. All you get to do at Trafalgar Square is get squashed in an oversized crowd of drunken revellers and then freeze in the cold afterwards while trying to get back home on an overburdened transport system. Can't think of a worse way to spend New Year's Eve, in fact.

Doesn't sound any better or any worse than Times Square. The night i went (my god, is it 30 years ago?) it was so cold and so crowded that you could literally pick up both of your feet and still be airborne. The crowd was horrendous! I guess i'm glad i did it once in my life. But i NEVER felt inclined to do it again!

It's my birthday so I always get to eat and drink for free.

Thanks, mom, for letting me exit your insides on such a fine day.

Have a perfectly wonderful birthday darlin!

I changed my mind. I'm not staying home. I bought a bottle of vodka, a bottle of Kahlua, and a bottle of Bailey's, and am going over to a friend's house.

^ Excellent! I will worry less about you tonight.

As for me, I am sick so I am definitely staying in tonight. I have already called/emailed my apologizes to my invites, picked up some fattening foods, beer and cold medicine at the grocery and found some movies. I plan on curling up on the sofa and not moving until tomorrow morning.

I am staying at home too tonight. Not many things to celebrate with by myself, but at least I'm home.

I shall watch the ball drop in Times Square and toast the New Year with a wine glass filled with grape juice (so I can pretend it's wine); then tomorrow watch the Rose parade.

It's what I do every year now...what I USED to do, when I was able to walk, was to hire myself out as the designated driver to friends and aquaintances...that was fun, too.

I feel super depressed tonight actually...I just want to cry actually. I miss being at home with my parents... oddly enough. And I miss Christmas. bah!

And the fact that I can't get Windows 7 to install after 10 hours...isn't helping.

Anyone else here stuck at work on New Year's Eve besides me? :(

At least I can't get hit by a drunk driver while I'm inside.

Well, tonight has been a Farscape night, watching Meltdown, Scratch 'N Sniff, and the Infinite Possibilities two parter. Good times. If I'm not tired, I might catch a little Wile 'E Coyote parody, Farscape style after celebrating the new year.

Well, apparently the IMAX showings of Avatar are sold out -- for the entire weekend. So I scratched that plan and just stayed in for a quite evening at home by myself. I decided to watch LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring and eat some cookies I got for Christmas... good times.

Ended up having a really low-key evening. Bought a bottle of champagne, drank it alone, and played Arkham Asylum on my PS3.

I am finishing the night off by watching "Sleeping Beauty" on Blu-Ray.

I agree. My Champagne flutes survived the night and I enjoyed using them. The wine tasted great and they looked lovely on my table dazzled by candlelight.
